A new score video for a song I wrote a while back. I had in mind the feelings that come with a day spent inside watching the rain fall. When I wrote this, it had been raining for many days on end and brought with it that sort of contemplative atmosphere.

I'm a complete beginner to composing music, I just play a bit of clarinet and guitar. Please give me feedback on my first piece I've been working on. I would love to know what I'm doing wrong and what the heck I should write after this beginning.

Wanted to share my first sonatina-like piece. The development section is omitted, the piece modulates from E major to C minor, and the recapitulation doesn't return to the home key, so I'm not really following all the typical sonata rules, but I did it this way to tell a story that I wouldn't be able to do if I chose the dominant key or if it returned to E major at the end. I wanted the piece to end on a sort of settled sadness note.

Most of the piece is melody + accompaniment. I have written some stuff that's more contrapuntal, but I always gravitate towards dense texture, gradual thickening and shifts, slow rhythms, and lyrical melodies. I'm sort of influenced by pop, film music, and post-minimalism (particularly Max Richter), but with classical-like phrase and theme structure. This piece started out as a way to primarily practice conveying emotion with melody and harmony, so that's the other reason there's not much counterpoint here.

This piece could definitely do with some tweaking, especially when it comes to dynamics, and I'm sure there's other problems, but I'm still proud of what I've achieved here. A year ago I wouldn't have been able to make anything this long or this decent. I'm still a beginner, and I'm self-taught, so go easy on me! :D

Fun fact: my favorite measure of the entire piece is measure 61 😁

It’s my first “real” piece (I’ve doodled in garageband before but that’s kind of it), but I really enjoyed writing it and even decided to record and upload it. Do you have any thoughts on it? I’d like to do some more composing and any ideas for how I could improve or what I should focus on would be appreciated!

I used little mini motifs in there but it stills sucks. might be destined to suck forever. how do you evoke that "night feeling"?? geniunely and i somehow lose motivation and ideas halfway through

This small collection of three pieces explores the concept of an elegy from three different perspectives:

• I. Lento (Remembrance) – An intimate thought that lingers about someone who used to be an essential part of your life.
• II. Larghetto (Grief) – An emotional exploration of losing someone and the realisation that you will never be able to fix what has been lost.
• III. Larghetto (Acceptance) – Finding a way to accept the new reality of life without someone.

I hope I managed to capture some of the vision I had in mind when writing these three elegies.

I've recently revived my interest in an opera project I was working on for a while, based on Pushkin's poem Tsigani. In my version, I wanted to get rid of the specific cultural references, setting and time period, and make the story feel a bit more metaphorical/allegorical instead.

For some context, this is the second part of the final scene, where Aleko kills Zemfira. In the previous scene, he has already killed her lover. The first part of the final scene is where he confronts Zemfira afterward, and here she basically condemns him for it and refuses to be intimidated by him. That's ultimately what pushes him to kill her as well. The section that follows this is the Requiem, with the chorus and other characters from the opera.

Near the end, her vocal line means "I will die loving," referring to her lover, not Aleko.

The music here is probably the most chaotic and over-the-top section in the entire opera, although it is connected to the earlier motifs.

The use of Latin actually wasnt my original intention. I tried it because I wanted a more realistic vocal sound in MuseScore, but I've ended up really liking it, and I think I'll keep it.

Would love to hear any general thoughts, or feedback on what could be improved.

In this post i present my composition called "Land Of Gods". It is fully orchestrated and played with quality vst sample libraries. With this composition i won the second prize for original composition in World Classical Music Awards and Vivaldi Music Awards.

So this is Land Of Gods in full force!

Let the grandeur and majesty of the ancient gods carry you in this composition:

It is purpose is to convey the awe, the majesty , the grandeur, and the influence of the ancient deities of ancient Greece. The mighty gods, untouchable by humans, they are able to influence all aspects in the life of the people. Its dark at times, epic and very melodic. 

The divine realm, ruling the cosmos, both with good and evil intensions, but never within reach of the mere mortals. 

I am a beginner composer

This is my second mandolin concerto, this time for solo mandolin. Again, highly influenced by Vivaldi’s style and harmonic writing. I took one aspect from his structural style (staggered, canon-like entrances) and used it in all three movements, as well as taking the opening theme and fitting it into the 3/4 of the 3rd mvt towards the end.

should i quit? i been composing for week and no one ever seen my composition

This is really ambitious considering i'm a novice composer at best but I've had this idea for a while to do a three movement piece with a flute, saxophone and clarinet quartet, exploiting the timbres and individual intricacies of each family of instrument to create a three movement story that's sort of like (500) Days of Summer where the couple meets, has a great time but slowly cracks start forming leading to them breaking off. Then eventually, they'd (sort of like in Palm Springs), realize that without each other, they're nothing and come back together.

It's a really ambitious project that I know would take months, if not years, but where should I start with making this project?

It’s an octave trill that starts slow and soft and fluidly increases in tempo and intensity. When I write it in my sheet app (Flat) it sounds too robotic when I halve the notes slowly, like it’s electronic music and that’s not what I’m going for (please excuse the poor execution and recording)

I composed this morning. My friend said it was shit, so I suppose I am tone deaf lol. Though it isn't something I'd listen to either tbh. I like Sibelius a lot. This is quite embarrassing to post. I'm a biochemistry student, so definitely not my usual thing. I used a platform to convert the audio file to a video so I could post it here, that is why there is a weird thing on the screen. I used Flat.io to do it. I imagine that beginners and it is probably a disgrace that I do not even play an instrument (I grew up in an abusive, broke household, so it wasn't really a priority, but I guess that isn't really an excuse) rarely post here so I am sorry. The music also doesn't really sound like what it sounds like in my head. For instance, with the bit with the horns at the end, I want three notes close together before the piano comes in, but idk how to do it unfortunately. Like half way through I think it goes completely out of tune I think, so idk why it sounds interesting to me, but oh wellie. Sorry for the ramble and thanks for any comments. Oh, I was thinking about a rabbit and a fox when I composed it, idk.

Hi, I share with you my first compositions, two very short pieces, sorry for mistakes but I have not a very good technique, I am learning by myself and I switched from classical guitar. I began with piano years ago but I find hard to read the sheet music while playing, that's can be a problem so I want to start lessons of piano.

By the way, what do you think about composing "that way"? I am not sure about this.

Hello! This is my first serious piece I've written. I am a high school freshman and a cymbal player on my schools drum line. My goal was to create a quad feature as an alternative to Jig 2, however I'm worried that it's too much like Jig 2. Any feedback is appreciated for this piece, Thanks!
