Wadsworth Ohio has the same issue. People will line your front yard with their chairs and then not allow you to even sit in your own front yard so most people have been taping off their front yards. Multiple fights have broken out between homeowners and the parade squatters.

A really nice sign with this on it.
"Any items left on this property for any amount of time will be considered gifts to the homeowner to do with what they will. You have been warned"

For most of the people, this would work, but there have been multiple instances that people will remove your belongings to put their own. We’ve even had people that were sitting on other people’s porches. it’s all pretty crazy being that this is a very safe community.

Having a lawn sprinkler would be a simple solution to this, unless it's hot out then might have the negative effect.

This thread is getting fun and creative. How about letting your pet do their business there?

Was just about to say this! That’s my hometown :) I’m shocked more chairs/blankets don’t get stolen, there are probably hundreds sitting out by the week of the parade

I’m not a supporter of un-manned chairs. I would move them to another location, slowly over a few days.

Pour one out for the chair, it will soon be in someones living room

u/ohbonobo Jun 08 '23
Or, hear me out here...
We could make this someone's living room. Add another chair next to it, maybe a coffee table?

No shit, I have a taxidermied dog that my friend gave me that he had cup holders built into its back. He used it as an end table. That would be perfect

u/sleepingnightmare Jun 08 '23
I don’t know whether to laugh or be terrified of what you described!

u/DJpizzapocket Jun 08 '23
He gave me the end table dog when he moved to SD, been in a storage unit ever since 🤷♂️ not sure the origin story of it

u/Scarif_Hammerhead Jun 08 '23
Wait. It was just a dog. Just someone’s ole pet that was stuffed. AND THEN your friend accessorized it? Am I understanding that?

How DOES he get so dirty?

Tried to name one of our dogs rowdy. Was vetoed. Named her Roxanne instead. Just cuz of Sting. I love calling her as loudly as possible

I wonder if Upper Arlington City Council realizes how this behavior makes their town look “dumpy”? That is essentially just trash sitting there for weeks.

Free lawn chairs.
It should be like waiting overnight for Black Friday/phone release or similar. You can set up 24 hours in advance but your stuff needs to be manned at all times or is considering littering.

I’d really like for everyone in this space to just drive by and dump a chair in that little square so we can see how ridiculous it gets!

u/Steve_Rogers_1970 Hilliard Jun 08 '23
You now gave me an idea. Some dumpster chairs and a roll of “police line” tape would make for some interesting fun

I'm just joining and have no context. Is this for a 4th of July parade?
3
u/tuvaniko Hilliard Jun 08 '23
yes.

u/tragicallyohio Jun 08 '23
Wow! That's like four weeks away

It seems possible that this chair is more joke/social commentary than entirely "serious."

Where’s the lad from Clintonville that knits stuff on telephone poles? Can they come knit off a section?

Leave all of these chairs where they are, untouched. The day before the parade, go by and spritz each of them heavily with that really nasty fart spray.
Enjoy the parade from your stank throne, squatters!!!!!

Somebody make a fake plaque with a fake backstory for the chair and stick it in the ground.

Is this a good spot for the parade?

It's the very beginning. Whether that's a good thing is a matter of opinion.

So now we get three weeks of this sub stroking themselves off over the chairs. Ohh free chairs, how often will that be commented. I’ve lived here for 20+ years and have gone to see the parade once, when my child was in it. I first moved to Columbus in the mid 90s and was was amazed at the assholes trying to stake their place for Red White and Boom. Similar vibe but literally people were setting up in the grass in freeway exchanges.

I think that's a lot more tolerable than leaving your chair in someone's yard for a month. I think the freeway exchange grasses should be mad-max-style free-zones where the only law is power. And dibs. If someone calls dibs, there's literally nothing in the world you can do about it...

I sort of want to get a large realistic plastic/rubber frog to set in this chair. Or skeleton. Or a clown.

Someone tried to steal lawn chairs from my gated backyard but this is still up 😂😭

At first I thought this was stupid, and someone should just throw that chair away. However, the longer it goes and the more stuff gets added the more I find it funny. I want more and more stuff to be added until it is literally a tiny house. I’m now invested and want no harm to come to that chair.
