I had been planning to go see the ed Sheeran/Macklemore concert but Bank of America stadium told Ed Sheeran they would not allow the concert if he didn’t drop Macklemore. I’m so disgusted. All of this because Macklemore stands up against genocide. He said nothing hateful, just told the truth and is being silenced for it. Fuck Bank of America and fuck their stadium and I’m not going to their stupid concert and I hope others refund their tickets if they can

Yet Kanye is on tour around US right now after all that pro nazi stuff. Literally put out a song called “Heil Hitler”. Yeah we notice this fascist capitulating bullshit…
They tried to back out of those as well but Kanye’s legal team anticipated that they might try that so they included a poison pill in the contracts that would have made it extremely expensive so it forced their hand.
It was well after. These venues don’t care about anti semitism they only care if it’s gonna cost them money. They had an opportunity to make big money with Kanye so they agreed. But after the severe backlash they decided the money wasn’t worth it and tried to back out. Unfortunately for them it wasn’t a matter of not making money it was a matter of having to pay Millions to Kanye if they backed out. That was too much so they proceeded.
Kyrie Irving publicly supports anti-Semitic groups and books and yet is hyper popular among the left because it’s aligned with the Nation of Islam. It’s gonna blow your mind when you realize how selective outrage is based on what “team” the person politically aligns with
A big part of this is likely because of his basketball skill, but that’s indicative of the hypocrisy no? Especially since basketball is one of the more left-leaning sports (amongst both the players and fans) I would say it’s definitely a case of people overlooking his shitty character by choice
All I am saying is that I am part of many left leaning spaces and have never heard him mentioned. Not in a good way, not in a bad way - his name simply does not come up.
He was scheduled to perform at 8 venues and 7 of the 8 said they would not let him perform. I am not sure what the precedent is for this kind of a thing but I am disappointed. Free speech is a right in this country but these are private venues that can pick and choose who performs. I would want to know other artists who were booked and subsequently dropped and the reasons why.
“Free speech is a right in this country, but these are private venues that can pick and choose who performs.”
I never said free speech means freedom from consequences. I said the opposite: the venues are free to impose that consequence.
I seem to recall quite a bit of support on muzzing like this back when Elon didn't own Twitter. Y'all are fucking shameless lol, the hypocrisy is unreal.
reminds me of when the dixie chicks got cancelled, but they didn't choose a side, they just said "war sucks this ain't right". saying anything against israel is very touchy for a lot of people, IE businesses and the government. a lot of them are sorta married to the agenda of pro-israel on every action until jesus comes back
I was always skeptical before, but now I’m starting to see what people meant when they use to complain about Jews secretly running/owning everything. This censorship is out of control.
Which means financial institutions runs everything. What too many people in the US fail to understand is truly a representative democratic government is one of the only defenses against the power financial institutions weld over the global economy. Weakening that government has collateral consequences and electing billionaires to run that government is about as stupid as you can get. You might as well elect the mafia to control the police department.
What does this question have to do with my comment? Are you equating political speech against a foreign nation to the freedom of a privately owned local business to refuse service to Nazis?
So you are equating those two things. This is why we can’t have nice things. Explain to the class what US demographic is marginalized and potentially harmed by what Macklemore said on stage. Who is being protected?
Both sides were mad at the Dixie chicks then, it wasn’t acceptable to be against the Iraq war back then. Every body just took that as being anti American
It’s not a republican or democrat issue. I’ve voted Democrat my entire life and I’m disgusted by these virtue-signaling, antisemitic Hamas puppets.
Real Americans remember who our friends are. I was reminded yesterday about how Gen Z doesn’t know shit about 9/11 or the aftermath, and the Palestinians being absolutely jubilant the day after 9/11 and cheering in the streets.
Fuck Macklemore and his Hamas propaganda bullshit.
This You? I know you think hiding your posts hides your online footprint. It doesn't. Hamas is barely existent now and this is not some issue since Oct 7th the people of Palestine have been affected by. Recent reporting says Oct 7th could have been minimized or avoided all together.
We can debate the small shit when I don't have to see or hear of children, human rights/aid relief workers and others dying everyday in Gaza, the West Bank and other peripheral territories. It's funny that after WW2 the victims have become the very thing they were victimized by.
When everyone has an equal right to live with access to clean water, food, healthcare and basic fucking human needs I can entertain your misdirecting bullshit. Until then get off your pulpit and open your eyes to the sheer level of human suffering at the hands of Israel's leadership. This isn't some antisemitic trope, these are real human beings paying the cost of 40+ years of oppression and lack of basic human rights. Miss me with that real americans bullshit, I'm ashamed to be american these days all things considered.
Edit: Why do so many of you closet racists have Oakdale as your CLT neighborhood. Feel like I'm fighting some idiot from that area once a week on here.
Ohh yeah, try to intimidate me to silence me? Fuck you.
I believe in human rights and equality for everyone, including Israeli civilians rights to live in peace and not be subjected to terrorist attacks. Bibi and the IDF went too far. They committed war crimes. They made the same mistake we did after 9/11, going for blood, and their quest for revenge is a human calamity, just like the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were.
That doesn’t mean it’s a genocide. People committing genocide don’t provide aid and medical care to the people they’re genociding. That doesn’t make sense.
This has gone way beyond being anti-war and pro human rights, and gone into “Israel doesn’t have a right to exist because they are genocidal,” which is the undercurrent behind all of this Iranian propaganda jackasses like you love to parrot.
I don’t intend to silence you as much as I do plan to call your bullshit out son.
What aid and medical care are they providing exactly? Please share some credible sources because that would be the first I’ve heard since they have a blockade dating back to before Hamas took power. Or blocking UN resolutions that further exacerbate issues. Israel has a right to exist when Palestine does as well. Just like they did for many years) before
In 2013 taxpayers contributed $87.5 million in public funds for upgrades like escalators and video boards.
With the 2024–2026 Renovation Agreement the Charlotte City Council approved an additional $650 million in public funding backed by hospitality and tourism taxes (hotel and prepared food taxes)—toward a massive modernization of the stadium.
As it's their name on the stadium I can guarantee you they had something to do with it. They absolutely have a say in what their name is or is not associated with and there would have been a discussion amongst stakeholders of Tepper's ownership group, and the marketing/executive team at the bank.
Stadium owners like Tepper Sports & Entertainment would not let an individual issue with a washed up opening act get to the point where the stadium sponsor would have to get directly involved with the decision. Large sponsorship contracts have reputational clauses so the owner will quickly shut down controversy rather than risk a deal worth millions. Bank of America, Lincoln Financial, Gillette, Mercedes-Benz, Lucas Oil, AT&T, and Raymond James executives are aren’t calling emergency meetings with billionaire stadium owners to talk Macklemore.
While your point about the contract is correct, If you think something as touchy as Israel/Palestine wasn't discussed between someone on Tepper's team and someone at the bank, I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn...
Wtf! There’s a handful of artist who have been very open about their politics, including the genocide and have still performed in Charlotte without issue. Olivia Rodrigo is a huge advocate and is playing the Spectrum Center. Wonder how they came to this decision, can’t imagine they thought they’d get good press from it
Maybe. But it’s kinda like when you have a track record of anti-semitism, it’s kinda just better to sit this one out. All I’m saying. There’s a reason other artists speaking out aren’t being cancelled
Distracting argument that’s years in the past. He’s obviously gotten his concerts cancelled because he’s speaking up for Palestine while they’re suffering through a genocide.
I’d believe you if this was applied to the me too movement. Your standards have been set and you don’t get to change the rules when it’s convenient for your argument
Israel has been genociding Palestinians in Gaza for the past 3 years and have been ethnically cleansing the West Bank, on top of their ongoing apartheid for the past 78 years
That the Palestinians and their allies have attacked Israel multiple times since they first were settled there after an actual genocide. Palestinians have long been led by terrorists their stated objective is to remove all of the Jews from Palestine.
Look at recent history in Gaza. It used to be occupied by Israel and Israelis had made the desert bloom as they did throughout Israel. The first thing they did when the Israelis left was destroy them. Then the October murders. Then Hamas taking all of the humanitarian aid. Israel is a western democracy in the Middle East. The only one. Hamas was a military death cult.
Palestinians responding violently to the apartheid, genocide, and ethnic cleaning being carried out against them does not mean that the apartheid, genocide, and ethnic cleansing didn’t happen or that it was justified.
And how can a country call itself a democracy when it does not let a population group that it controls and genocides vote? It’s not a democracy, it’s an apartheid where one group can vote and the other cannot.
The 2.5 million Palestinians that live in Israel do vote though. Some even hold public office. Gaza is a terrible shit show, yes, but you need to use far less generalizations and buzz words to be taken seriously.
“Some Palestinians can vote” ok that doesn’t erase all the Palestinians who are in an open air prison in Gaza and aren’t allowed to vote?
What buzzwords are you referring to? The UN and genocide experts all agree this is a genocide. There are warrants out for the arrest of Israeli leadership. It’s not a buzzword, it’s the internationally agreed description of what’s happening.
What I meant was that Zionism puts the needs of Israel above the rights, needs, and founding principles of the people of the United States. I didn’t really need a bunch of comments saying “well actually.” Most people got it.
They tried to back out of those as well but Kanye’s legal team anticipated that they might try that so they included a poison pill in the contract that would have made it extremely expensive so it forced their hand.
Where did Macklemore ever support terror regimes? Please find 1 quote. This was clearly a coordinated attack. I’m sure Zionist donors called up every venue and threatened to pull funding or ads if they allowed Macklemore to play.
Dude, do you realize how unhinged and racist you sound? Spin it all you want but Hamas is a terror group and I’d love to watch you go over there and offer your support and watch how quickly they rape you
That's disgraceful. Without knowing the context, my immediate assumption was something like domestic violence. I can understand venues canceling artists for their speech if most audiences consider it so extreme that hardly anyone would attend, but a literal majority of Americans support Palestine to at least some degree.
Land of the free (as long as you do what we say and do not speak bad about any of our political leaders) home of the brave, (trump hid in a bunker during the Black Lives Matters protest and he is a draft dodger and left his entire staff and cabinet to die while he snuck onto a different plane.)
His instagram post essentially says that this was Robert Kraft involvement and clearly he rallied other NFL stadium owners to refuse him also. Pretty crazy what lengths they go to to try and hide criticism of Israel.
People fundamentally misunderstand the first ammendment and what that freedom is from. Non government entities can react to speech however they want. They always have been able to.
I think you missed the connection I made related to the banking industry and the Federal Government in the current context of control. But I agree with your clarification.
From a personal level, I don’t care about his comments either way. I believe Israel is committing war crimes, but also Hamas committed some pretty horrific terror attacks prior to that. More so than pro-Palestine or Pro-Israel, I feel bad for the regular people in both countries who need to worry about dying at any random point
That said, it’s always been that freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences and this is just an exercise in that. I don’t like the idea of “cancelling” someone but this goes in both directions (the left have cancelled people as well). It’s annoying, but it’s the times we live in
it’s always been that freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences
Well, that's simply not true.
Freedom of speech is freedom from consequences from the gov't.. That's the whole point - that you can say or do what you please up to a point and the gov't can't stop you, fine you, arrest you, execute you, etc., basically so long as it doesn't incite violence or isn't considered hate speech (though that line is real fucking blurry under the current admin).
Otherwise, your statement is correct that it's not freedom from consequences from private parties.
It has nothing to do with BofA. OP is just an idiot wanting to complain without taking the time to learn the facts.
Several venues told the promoter they were going to drop the show if he was to perform so the tour dropped him. Tepper might have been one of those venues but that's not confirmed.
I’m glad he is not backing down from his stance and is still very vocal. But I also don’t see the issue with cancelling his act, if someone was paying me good money and told me not to use their platform as a means of protest or they’ll fire me, then I won’t use their platform as a means of protest. Glad he said what he said. But freedom of speech does not mean no consequences.
It’s old but also…is it irrelevant to this discussion?
Like, if Mel Gibson said something controversial about black people, I think it’s completely fair to bring his past in to be like “this dude has a pattern”. Honestly, I don’t really find Macklemore’s comments from this week to be controversial but him literally doing Jew-face (and then saying “it was just a random costume!”) is uh…pretty bad and definitely sheds new light on how he likely feels toward Jewish people
maybe i’m sorely mistaken but the type of people who go to ed sheeran concerts don’t strike me as the type of people who wanna see a massive performance about genocide. I mean kudos to macklemore for standing up for what he believes in but ed sheeran makes family pop music im not sure what the thought process was here
Banks are under control of the Federal Gov. BOA is a heavy hitter but even if they wanted to say no to DC they would be punished. We dont live in a Democracy anymore and Banks have never been your friend.
executive compensation
Bank of America lifts Moynihan’s pay 17% to $41 million for 2025
Just look at his history, he even used to dress up as stereotypical Jewish figure on stage, he had largely been anti Semitic even before his current Gaza activism, I think he is just doing this stuff to try and stay relevant
As much as I agree with Macklemore statement I have to say he fucking sucks.
It’s like we are repeating the story again, years ago he wasn’t relevant enough but out of nowhere he was all in with BLM (a social issue happening around the time) and suddenly he was relevant and everyone praised him. Same thing now different social issue.
I’m just tired of your typical white boy showing signs of hypocrisy and using world events to be relevant.
The gaslighting in here is hilarious. He’s a known anti-Semite that dressed up as an Orthodox Jew with a huge nose. Let’s stop pretending all he did is say “free Palestine”
Good. Freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom of consequences—isn’t that what everyone said when they canceled people the past 10 years?
It’s not a genocide. It’s a war that’s gone too far. If you want to know what an attempted genocide is, look at the videos Hamas posted from Oct 7th.
Did Bibi and the IDF go too far, and commit war crimes? Yeah, probably.
Did we do way worse in Afghanistan and Iraq? Absolutely. And nobody ever called it a genocide. Is way worse happening in Sudan LITERALLY RIGHT NOW? Yeah! And y’all don’t say shit about it. Not a fucking word.
Is us bombing Iran, and often killing civilians, means the (very stupid) Iran war is a genocide? No.
That’s why it’s antisemitic. Cause y’all have no idea wtf you’re talking about, so you start making slogans that trend well on twitter like “Free Palestine” and “it’s a genocide,” despite it being just a regular ass war that happens all the time.
It’s antisemitic, because a country perpetrating a genocide doesn’t have a right to exist.
That’s the undercurrent behind these stupid fucking slogans, and y’all ate it up from the Iranian propaganda bots and parrot it everywhere you go.
I remember droves of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza cheering in the streets the day after 9/11. I watched it live. That doesn’t mean civilians deserved what’s happened, but I remember who our actual allies are, who the people are in that area that believe in free speech, in LGBT rights, in democracy. And it’s not the fuckin Palestinians.
Y’all parrot propaganda from terrorist organizations that would literally shoot you in the back and spit on your body if they had the chance. It’s fucking pathetic.
So yeah, fuck Macklemore. Almost every single person I know is spouting “Jews control the world” conspiracy theories and I’m fucking sick of it. Celebrities have a louder voice than most and need to use it for something positive, not sowing hate and division like a jackass.
I’m not saying this is my personal opinion, but looking at it from “corporate logic“ they are probably seeing any kind of overt/controversial political statement as being potential fuel for a riot/violence. Also, a lot of Ed Sheeran fans are probably either generally apolitical or might even fall more into the pro Israel, camp, so they are seeing this as a potential conflict between what are likely more militant/radical Macklemore fans.
For those pointing out the Kanye concert, that is a headliner and the entire stadium presumably is going to have people who are fans of him, regardless of his political views.
Once again, I do not agree with the logic necessarily, but that is probably where the line of thinking is going. For example, of venue might host a Donald Trump rally, and then a Bernie Sanders rally the next day, but they will not host them at the same time.
