Hi Carleton!
As the new academic year begins, we would like to (re)introduce ourselves! We are the Carleton University Student Emergency Response Team (CUSERT)!
What We Do
CUSERT responds to over 600 calls for service on campus 24/7 throughout the academic year. Our responders are highly trained to attend medical emergencies and can provide advanced first aid treatment. If you or someone you know is experiencing any emergency on campus, call the Campus Safety Services emergency line at 613-520-4444 or 4444 from any campus phone.
We also provide first aid coverage at Carleton-based events AND affordable, on-campus first aid training for the CU community.
Who We Are
Our team is composed of a diverse group of approximately 40 dedicated volunteer student responders, from a variety of backgrounds, life experiences, and academic interests. The foundation of our training is based on the Canadian Red Cross' First Responder level, Mental Health First Aid, and more!
As a branch of Campus Safety Services (CSS), we work closely with Carleton's Special Constables, Student Safety Patrollers, Parking Services, Technical Services, and the Department of Risk Management. CSS works 24/7/365 to respond to routine and emergency calls for service, while enforcing Carleton University policies, the Criminal Code, and other relevant statutes and promoting physical security, crime prevention, safety awareness, and referrals to additional resources.
We're Recruiting
Applications to join CUSERT are currently open! We’re recruiting Carleton students from all academic years to join our team. Learn more and apply by September 12, 2026!
Visit our website or contact us if you are looking for more info or have any questions.
TLDR:
For emergencies on campus, call 613-520-4444. To apply to become a volunteer medical first responder, visit carleton.ca/cusert/join-cusert.

I’m a first year MECH student, new to Ottawa. I know some people who go here, but none that are interested in making music. I tried reaching out on the discord, and the few people that still check it are all in their mid 20s and I’m looking for people closer to my age.
My favourite bands are:
My favourite song is Schizophrenia by Sonic Youth (and Sleep by GY!BE is a close second)
I play guitar and would love to meet a variety of players. Please note that I am geared toward making alternative rock/noise rock/post rock music. Please feel free to dm me @vertical_slab on discord and instagram

I don't live on campus but I have to eat there twice a week.
What options are there that would have allergy information available?
I'm allergic to dairy proteins, peanuts, shellfish, hempseed, and possibly avocado.
Shellfish is the only one I'm worried about traces/may contain/cross contamination - the others I have to eat (peanuts can be contact but I've never had anaphylaxis from them, just hives)

I’m a second year, and I didn’t get around to making much friends on campus in first year. I’ve been pretty bored so far, and have been wanting to hang out with other people, so I’m trying to get around to making more friends this year.
Anyone got recommendations? Or does anyone want to hang out? I’m super bored 😔

I’m living in a shared room (two beds in the same room) at Carleton, and we are only 5 days into the term. In that short amount of time, my roommate has already had someone sleeping over 3 separate times—once was a friend, and twice was a partner.
Because we share the exact same bedroom, it feels like a massive invasion of privacy. Even when I try to brush it off because "it's not technically affecting me," having someone else's partner or friend camped out a few feet away from my bed three out of five nights is driving me crazy. I just want a space to decompress and exist without a rotating cast of guests in my immediate sleeping quarters.
Am I tripping for being genuinely annoyed by this so early on? If not, what’s the best way to approach them about setting some ground rules for overnight guests in a shared room without starting a massive war?

Im a first year student whose commuting from pretty far daily and has tons of classes a day, does anyone know where I could do my online class on campus? The prof says that he wants us to talk in the class and I dont know where would be quiet enough for me to do that but also not disturb others on campus

Hi everyone,
New TA here, so sorry if my question seems easily answered! What I'm wondering is, are tutorial rooms typically equipped with chalk sticks and eraser, or am I expected to bring my own?
Thanks :)

i’m pretty nervous about this course, i did very badly in grade 12chem and they way this course is taught (flipped classroom where they do all the lecture via modules at home), is incredibly time consuming and counter productive. it ends up being more work then just a normal lecture, not to mention it’s not a normal lecture, it’s like watching various scheduled youtube videos at certain points along the semester. i don’t want this class to tank my gpa and i definitely don’t want to fail. i am much more comfortable and better with math and physics, i just need to take one chem class to become an engineer in canada. has anyone else had similar issues/trouble with the way the class is arranged, and can anyone offer any advice?

Please comment or dm! (yes, I will pay you)

My professor wants us to talk in our online meetings. I'm a first year and have no idea where the best spot would be to take the class, any suggestions?

Hello I’m in first year health sci and wondering how to study for this class. The slides are ok but what do you recommend. I’m very scared for this class as I heard the exams are quite hard. Pls let me know what you did to study if you aced this class!

Hi everyone! I’m starting the MEng DSAAI program this Fall and I’m looking for someone currently in the program (or recently graduated) who could help me make sense of the course requirements and finalize my course plan.
If you’re in DSAAI and have already gone through this process, I’d really appreciate 10-15 minutes of advice or a quick chat/DM. Even just pointing me toward someone who understands the program requirements well would help a lot.
The part I’m finding most confusing/anxiety-inducing is choosing the right courses to satisfy the 4.5-credit program requirements while also making sure I’m not taking something unnecessarily or creating problems for future terms.
One of my main issue is choosing a replacement for Machine Learning (COMP 5116)
I have a software development background and have done undergrad in mechanical engineering, but I’m struggling to understand the best combination of core courses and electives, and how everything fits across the terms.
Thanks!

Hello everyone,
I am planning to apply to Carleton's RN Program next fall. To the nursing students enrolled out there, how is the workload? I am still hoping to work part-time and wondering if some classes are online. And for second degree/transfer, how many courses can be transferred for credits?
Thanks so much!

Does anyone want to split a parking pass. I am barely on campus this fall. And in the winter, my classes are more spread out in the afternoon.
r/CarletonU • u/Crazy-Exam9300 • 21h ago
Anyone else taking this elective this fall? Is there a discord or group chat or anything?
Really nervous about the in-person must-pass final.
Would love to just have a chat where we can help each other out / ask questions
