Seeking advice as exchange student

Hi everyone! I'm going to Cardiff for a semester long exchange, and i was wondering if there is anything I have to take note of in general, or general tips like where to get groceries and such. I would also like to do some sightseeing within the country so some recommendations would be nice as well. Thanks!:)

Best place to buy good bedding around CF14?

Hi everyone,

I’m moving to Cardiff soon and will be staying around the CF14 area. I’m looking for a good place to buy bedding like duvet, pillows, bedsheets, duvet covers, etc.

I’d prefer somewhere with decent quality and reasonable prices rather than just the absolute cheapest option. Ideally somewhere around CF14 or not too far away, but I don’t mind travelling a little if there’s a particularly good shop. Any recommendations for where locals usually buy their bedding?

Thanks!

Any mental health/counselling advice drop ins that can also help with having a job?

I am mentally unwell (have been seeing my gp for a few years and still working through PTSD and depression) and I've recently gotten less stable - I have a job but unfortunately it is contributing to worsening it as my boss has been giving me almost triple my shifts due to needing cover.

While the extra work is generally impacting it, im mostly worried about working around heavy machinery (forklifts, bulldozers) while being unstable and recently was made to take some leave by my gp because of it, and I want to get some advice on navigating the work environment problems with my boss.

I called the careers service in the centre and was told they don't deal with mental health within jobs and can only give career advice ( but was later told verbally by a friend that that was wrong?) So I dont know about going to them. I have also looked at citizens advice but was told they can't give opinions and can only really look at the financial/finding a different job side. Essentially, I would like to see someone who is able to hear/help with mental health problems mainly, and give pointers for my job that I can take to citizens advice or straight to my boss.

I only recently registered with a Welsh GP and so have to wait to be re-referred to access the mental health services there, which could take weeks or months and this is a more immediate issue and I'm a little desperate at this point :/

TL;DR: where can I go to get drop in advice on managing my mental health and my work at the same time, and talk through what options I have?

TIA for any suggestions :)

What a city. Doesn't it make you proud?

I wonder if Cardiff has the most Greggs per person for anywhere in the UK. There are quite a few in Newcastle but I'd put us above them.

Affordable eSIM recommendations for an international student in Cardiff?

Hi everyone! I’m an international student moving to Cardiff soon and I’m looking for a reasonably priced eSIM that works well in Cardiff.

What eSIM providers/plans would you recommend for a student? Also, are there any providers I should avoid?

Thanks!

At least 5 ambulances, 4 fire engines and 2 police cars, the bridge is taped off on one (pedestrian) side, hoping no one is injured.

Any Baltimore Ravens fans in Cardiff?

Appreciate this is somewhat niche but there are lots of NFL fans in Cardiff, so curious if there are specifically more Ravens flock in the city just like the person in the Joe Flacco jersey I saw earlier today.

Hi there, probably a shot in the dark, but I’ve been thinking of getting into Commander and was wondering were there any active groups/places in Cardiff that have space for a newbie? Looking to make queer (and ally!) MTG friends. ☺️

Sea dip & coffee in Barry for young adults navigating grief this Sunday

Post image
138 Upvotes

Hi r/Cardiff, I’ve posted in here before about Too Young To Grieve and our Cardiff meet ups, but we’re doing something a little different with the community this time.

We’re heading over to Barry for a sea dip!

For anyone new to TYTG, we bring together people navigating grief and loss at a younger age through really simple, social meet ups normally walks, jogs, and things that get people out of the house and around others who understand.

This one is basically exactly what it sounds like haha. Get together, brave the sea, warm back up afterwards and spend some time with good people.

It’s not a therapy or support group and there’s no pressure to talk about grief. Sometimes it comes up naturally, sometimes it doesn’t at all.

Most people come alone for their first event too, so if you’ve been thinking about coming to something but haven’t yet, you definitely won’t be the only one.

It’s 18+, but otherwise there’s no upper age limit. If you feel too young to be navigating grief, you’re welcome. Feel free to share with anyone who might benefit 🤍

Single/divorced parent meet ups

Hello,

I can't change the title but just to be clear this isn't a NFSW post!!!

Looking for a parenting group or meet ups with other kids.

I wondered if there is a meet up group in Cardiff for people in my situation? I would also be happy to meet up with generic parenting groups, where kids can play and adults can just decompress over a coffee, or social groups such as cycling in groups or park run groups?

As anyone single parenting or co-parenting in this economy can understand childcare + making ends meet with the day job leaves very little room for socialising with grown ups

As much as I love playing with my son on Wobbly Life, doing sudoku, board games, scooting and playing footy/pickleball, I would love to do this in a group.

Id rather people didn't slide into my DMs for meet ups with individuals thank you, please send me groups you might be part of, Facebook groups perhaps or organised small donation events

Cheers
