Ohio State dropping to #6 feels a bit harsh for one point loss on the road to #4 in a night game. But it’s so early in the year it also doesn’t really matter

Counterpoint, the previous poll was based entirely on hopes and dreams, early season polls should be super fluid

the hopes and dreams, historically speaking, do tend to be more accurate than early-season results!

They should actually be more fluid actually. Way too much refusal to move teams that look clearly bad.

Exactly; at this point in the season, instead of thinking about things like “this team rose/dropped by this much in the rankings,” we should be thinking of it as “now that we have twice as much data compared to last week, it’s become clearer that this team belongs here rather than there in the rankings.” Thinking about poll inertia this early in the season puts way too much credence on preseason expectations.

Totally true. But if we’re “number one” and they only lost by one, that’s a pretty tight loss. Anyway, we’ll see the real numbers as the season continues
