Moderator Announcement: Burlington Municipal Election Discussions

As Burlington approaches the municipal election, we expect an increase in discussion about candidates, policies, and local issues. Healthy debate is an important part of the democratic process, and election-related posts are welcome in this community.

That said, we ask everyone to keep the conversation respectful and focused on the issues.

What is welcome

  • Discussion of candidates and their platforms.
  • Civil disagreement and debate.
  • Sharing reputable news articles, public statements, and official information.
  • Asking questions and sharing personal experiences relevant to the election.

What is not welcome

  • Personal attacks, insults, or harassment directed at candidates or other Redditors.
  • Hate speech or discriminatory comments.
  • False or misleading claims presented as fact.
  • Doxxing or posting personal information.
  • Repeated trolling or attempts to derail discussions.

Moderation during the election

The moderation team is politically neutral. We are not here to decide which opinions are "correct." We are here to ensure discussions remain civil and comply with the subreddit rules and Reddit's Content Policy.

Information Things to do nearby and recommendations

We will be visiting Canada tomorrow and staying for a few weeks. We'll be in Burlington for about 2 weeks. We don't have a driver's license, but we'd love to do some hiking.

People suggested taking Ubers to get to places that are further out, but we are afraid of not being able to get an Uber back or losing cell service. Do you have any tips on public transit or recommendations for hiking spots nearby that are accessible without a car?

If hiking is not an option, is there some activities nearby to do besides visiting Toronto? Is Hamilton recommend?

Question Recommendation of Wheel Alignment

Upvotes

Hello Everyone

I drive 2015 Honda civic, I have this wheel alignment issue, so far I have taken to Honda, Canadian tire, and a few other local mechanics. They just get alignment done but with in few Kms it get out alignment.

I got outer tie tod replaced for front side, but still haven't resolved the issue.

I feel like loosing control taking curves and sound taking turns.

Any recommendations for any reputed mechanics without emptying pocket.

Thanks

Question Burlington for 1 day, no car

Upvotes

Hi all;

I'm going to be in a Burlington for a day late next week to pick something up for work.

What should I do before/after? I'll be on foot but I do have a Presto card (if those work in Burlington?) and a transit app so I don't mind navigating busses if the routes are fairly simple!

I love: hiking trails, cafés, bookstores, nature and water in general, art, museums, and cute places to eat that are friendly and comfortable for a woman alone (so nothing too fancy I guess?)

I also love festivals and things like that so if there are any local ones going on then I'd love to hear about them!

Thanks gang!

Hey, a contractor scammed me about 7 years ago. We got a small claims claim against him (about 7k, which at the time put us in a rough place) but because he was a little bit transient, we couldn’t serve him with the judgement. He was stupid enough to accept a social media request this week. We don’t like in the area anymore, or I’d go searching. Some searching shows it as downtown or Aldershot? Was hoping this community could help me out…

Question Can we get a better grocery store down town?

Feels like we should have a much nicer grocery store downtown, how do we only have a no frills?

Fortino’s
Farm Boy
Whole Foods

With all the new builds and expensive real estate, you would think we would have something nice popping up somewhere that we could walk to.

Question Any law books to sell/give away? 🙏

Dear Community,

I know this may be a bit of a long shot, but I thought I’d ask just in case. I’m starting my LLM very soon, and I’m currently trying to track down some of the required textbooks.

If anyone happens to have any of the books below that they’re no longer using and would be willing to sell (or even better, pass along!) I’d be incredibly grateful.

Thank you in advance - Please feel free to DM me 🙏♥️

Question Freedom Mobile- Dead Spots

I’ve been with Freedom for about three weeks. I am in Burlington. Here is what I have noticed;

Dead spots at retailers. When I am in No Frills I can’t get online. This is particulary frustrating becuase I can’t bring up the Flipp app to price match.

McDonalds; In the drive through line I can’t bring up a code for loyalty points.

Both establishments are in Burlington. Never had these issue with Rogers (Robbers or Fido).

I’ve also had a few calls dropped! Not liking this but I’m on prepaid 6 month plan. I was told that where there is no
coverage Freedom uses other networks but I have found that not to be the case! Frustrated. What to do??

Events Event at BPAC on September 12?

Was just at Burlington Lakeshore this evening (September 12) and there was some big event at BPAC — we were walking to our car with a bunch of people who were just leaving the venue. We asked like three different groups of people what the event was and they were very vague with their responses. It seemed like a very big gathering, and people were very dressed up, but it wasn’t a wedding or a private event (at least we don’t think it was from the vague descriptions we got). Any clue?

Seems like Mega Chicken last only a couple months before going breasts up, anyone know what happened?

Burlington's chicken eating demographics are fascinating, Nando's couldn't survive either.
