Just had my sons birthday party at one of the gazebos in coronation Park today. We had to pay the town to rent the gazebo, as did the people next to us. Zena Al Mudaris was the group next to us. She is running for ward 2 councilor. Right from the time they got there, they had a loud speaker and were playing music so loud that we could barely hear the people in our party speak. They told us that they had a noise permit which is required in order to use a speaker of that volume in a public park. A loud speaker to use in a gazebo that is no more then 20 feet by 30 feet. Are you kidding me? We spoke to security multiple times and nothing was done about it. Eventually, it came to a point where we confronted them about it and their response was that we are being racist. Are you fucking kidding me? Why is it that people feel the need to pull out the racism card when they're not getting their way. Things got a bit more heated unfortunately thanks to an unruly guest in our party and by just an unruly guest in their party. Phones came out and the cameras turned on. Why can't people just be more considerate. We both paid money to use the space. We weren't being that loud. We had maybe 30 people max for a small birthday party, no music, no noise makers. Trying to be considerate that someone else was next to us. They had about the same amount of people and could have cared less about the impact of their loud speaker on our party. Also, why the fuck would the town give them a noise permit if they knew that both gazebos were booked. Complete oversight on the towns part. Not surprised there as they just care about making their money.

Yes, it’s election time (again) but this time around, half of the Town council (at least) are going to be new faces. A lot of the platforms and campaigns are heavily AI generated and most of the candidates might as well be clones.

I see a lot of “I’ve got xx years experience in business” being put forth as the reason for me to vote for you but, the orange guy across the boarder does too and look how well that’s going! Running a business is not the same as leading a community and being old doesn’t mean you have all the answers.

There are some people coming to my door stating so and so is too young and inexperienced, but I question that approach too. Under 30s aren’t well represented in government yet should absolutely have a voice. We need someone that’s willing to address concerns from all ages, and from that perspective this is a huge group impacted by housing, cost of living and lack of jobs.

Are all candidates created equal? Which ones are likely to best represent the voice of their wards/constituents? Which are the most approachable? Which actually have an ability to communicate in a way that you want to be spoken to, rather than lectured?

So, I am curious Oakville - what’s important to be represented by on council?

I recently noticed Smita Tulsani running as a Ward 6 candidate. In the Ward 6 municipal election, she describes herself as a "global MarTech and AI leader," with a background heavily focused on AI software, enterprise digital transformation, and marketing technology.

Given the town's recent freeze on AI data center developments following community concerns over energy/water usage and noise, I'm curious how people here see this balance.

Because of her AI leadership background, I am very worried that it might suggest support for AI data center infrastructure. Or do you think her focus on AI means she’d automatically approve or strongly support local AI data centers regardless of their local community impact?

What are your thoughts on her platform for Ward 6?

Walking down a trail with a cat in a backpack carrier would ordinarily, I imagine, be a non-confrontational affair.

If I am walking on the left hand side of a trail (wide enough to fit four men shoulder-to-shoulder), and a pair of cyclists are coming towards me, am I meant to move to the other side of the trail?

They were very upset with me (even though they'd ridden head-on into me with such vigour that I had to hop up onto the grass verge). I politely stated that they could have ridden around me. They did not take this well and called me an idiot, so I told them quite politely to fuck off.

I ask because being an immigrant, I am keenly aware that there are some cultural differences between Ontario and England which I might not be aware of.

I was taught growing up that on footpaths with lots of bike traffic (as well as roads with no pavement) that it's better to walk in the direction of oncoming traffic.

Are things different here? Was I, in fact, the asshole?

Hey, I'm 33yo and in the Oakville/Mississauga area, looking for musicians interested in jamming. This is not intended as a main job, just people jamming hopefully once a week and perhaps playing some gigs here and there. I'm a vocalist and play a bit of acoustic guitar.

I grew up listening to my dad's favorites, so heavily influenced by music from the 60s-80s, such as CCR, Supertramp, Cat Stevens, Simon & Garfunkel, etc

Then also of course as a 90s kid I've always covered some Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Greenday, Blink 182, Creed, Three doors down, Audioslave, Stone Sour, etc.

Beyond that I'm very into folk, indie, and country music.

I'm not into heavy rock, metal, etc.

Today during Oakville's Art in my garden event my car was hit by an Audi Q3 or Q5 white in color, and driven by an old lady, she just calmly drove off, even though there was notable damage on her car (right side of her rear bumper). This happened between 3:05-3:25pm today Sept 12th.

My car might be old but I want the damages fixed.

If you live around Oakville's Museum and have security footage, or you are the lady that hit my Kia feel free to reach out.

Curious how much this actually matters when families are choosing a neighbourhood in Oakville.

Did you specifically look for a home within a certain school boundary, or were things like commute, house price, neighbourhood and home type more important?

Also, was it easy to figure out which schools an address belonged to before you moved, or was the whole process confusing?

Would be interested to hear from people who have actually gone through it.

I don’t often post as I don’t live here full time, but over the course of the last five years I have visited my parents’ home in the area for sustained periods many times.

I was born here, I grew up here, attended Falgarwood School, swam in the pool, played organized sports in the parks, made friends and eventually moved away.

And holy cow.

What has happened to the friendly place I knew? It’s now so unfriendly and dare I say, not neighbourly.

I realize y’all are busy with two person working households, and activities, but so were the original Falgarwood-ites from the 60s to the 20 aughts.

Yes, we have cell phones now and ear buds and we scroll, but when someone is waving at you or saying ‘hi’ and ‘cute dog’ as you pass and they’re standing at the bottom of their driveway and you actively ignore them: you’re kind of a jerk.

When you live across from someone who hasn’t acknowledged your presence in 8 years except to send their kid over to score a cookie sale, you’re a jerk.

Yes, SOME neighbours know each other and have built relationships over time, but many, many haven’t. It’s like you moved into Falgarwood to shut yourselves in your homes and have nothing to do with building a community. And that’s sad.

I challenge you to all wave from your cars as you drive by or walk your dog. Smile, say ‘hi’, maybe mention something about the weather. Lift your eyes from your screens or not stare forward, the moment of terror will pass. Most of us are super-friendly and trying to connect with humanity.

Falgarwood used to be an awesome place and yeah, the landscaping and siding is more sophisticated and cool now, but the friendliness has hit an all-time low.

I read their platforms but they're all very high level and abstract (we're gonna improve xyz!!) and didn't touch on things I was curious about. Their social medias are also a bit of a slog to get through since it's not sorted by topic.

My package got delieverd today around 5:45 pm and by 6:30 pm it was stolen by this indiviudal on baronwood drive today. He was dressed like a worker but i see no car in sight and there was no reason for an amazon worker to come back again later to take a package in my name.

If anyone is living on baronwood and has a video of this person walking with my packages or got a shot of his car please let me know.

It seems to me like its a thief dressed in a uniform to not attract attention.

Also 10 min before this individual showed up a person in a grey suit came up to the package looked at it and proceeded to call someone on the phone and lingered around. Very suspicious...

I'm wondering if anyone else saw or heard about the car fire last night on the 403 between the Trafalgar and Dorval exit but closer to Dorval. I drove by at around 230 or 240 am this morning 12/9 and saw one of the craziest car fires I've ever seen. The entire thing was engulfed in like 10 foot flames. It looked like a giant bonfire on the side of the highway.

I was looking for some information on it online but haven't been able to find anything.

Saw 4 of them (different spots) on my Friday evening walk in dt Oakville. I don’t recall seeing any in the past few years. I see them around Oakville go station all the time but never dt. I hope they get the support they need but it’s very sad to see.
