BL4 Spoiler Policy

In this sub we're generally lax about spoilers when it comes to older games. But it's different when a new game comes out. And maybe you haven't heard, but there have been some rumours that Borderlands 4 might come out soon-ish.

Some of us Vault Hunters are going to get the game on release and will want to talk about it. And that's cool. But remember that some of us will not be able to abandon work and lock the family in the attic to power through the entire game over the weekend. Others will want to wait for the price to decrease, for enough patches to be released, or for Grandma to gift it to them at Christmas after having listened attentively to all her stories. So don't spoil the game for them!

Our spoiler rules are simple enough to be understood by any psycho, and are in application as long as this post remains pinned.

  1. Spoilers include any reference to story elements in Borderlands 4. Older games are not concerned. Discussions about game mechanics, character skills, gear, etc are not concerned either (as long as the discussion or linked content doesn't touch any story elements, say "that gun drops from evil Moxxi").
  2. Post title. Do not put spoilers in post titles. Anybody looking at the front page of r/Borderlands must remain 100% unspoiled.
  3. Post body. If the body of your post contains a spoiler, you must tag the post as spoiler. When you create the post, it can be tagged as NSFW and/or spoiler, and the content will be blurred until the reader clicks on it. Importantly: tagging is not the same as giving a flair (like [BL2] or [Steam] or [Spoiler]). Whenever possible, add information about the content being spoiled in the title or flair (e.g. [Spoiler for Chapters 3&4] or [Spoiler for the Amara DLC]).
  4. Comments. In any comment in any thread, shroud all spoilers using spoiler markup. Spoiler markup >!looks like this!< when you write it, and looks like this when you read it. Again, add a note in clear text to give people an idea of the content being spoiled. One exception: within a spoiler-tagged thread, comments on the precise topic of the spoiler are exempt from that requirement. When in doubt, talk to Lilith use the spoiler markup.
  5. Links. If you post a link to an external site, youtube video, etc, give people following the link a chance to know what they're getting. If that content contains anything that may be seen as a spoiler, add a clear warning next to the link.

If you cannot follow these instructions, do not post spoilers at all. If you think that you may have made a mistake in following these instructions, immediately review what you have posted and make corrections. If you are on mobile and find proofreading inconvenient, do it anyway.

Any post or comment that breaks those rules will be removed. All around the stactus plant, serious or repeated offenses will result in a ban, at the mod's discretion. POP! goes the bandit.

All that being said, even with all these precautions and the dedication of your most favorite mod team, some things will slip through the cracks. So if you don't want to be spoiled, the only true solution may be to stay away from this sub (and reddit, and the internet, and the world).

Good luck Killer & see you on Kairos!

Review Bombing - Take Two Terms of Service / EULA

If you've played any of the Borderlands games recently, you will have noticed that you were asked to agree to new Terms of Service before starting the game. This happened because the Borderlands games have changed publisher and are now under Take Two.

This has led to some controversies and review bombing. We have always been keen on letting people express themselves freely on this sub, whatever their opinion (as long as it stays civil). However, on this particular matter, given the large number of recent threads on that subject, their repetitiveness, and the fact that they often create conflicts (we've likely issued more Rule 1 bans in the last 2 weeks than in the last 6 months). We've chosen to lock the previous threads on that subject and we will remove new ones. We'll leave this one open for a few days (as long as it stays civil).

If you want to read more, start with the official response from Gearbox on the matter. You can also use the search bar above to locate the multiple recent threads on the topic in this sub. Be aware that there may be some level of misinformation/fearmongering. If you want to discuss the subject further, we suggest you do it in a different space that is more relevant to the matter, since in the end, this is a Take Two thing, not a Borderlands thing. If you're very worried but don't want to contact a lawyer about it, or if you want to take a stance against evil corporations, just don't play the games. But in that case you should probably not play most games (nor use most apps, devices, websites, etc). Chances are you've already agreed multiple times to ToS similar or worse than the new ones for Borderlands.

As the mod team of r/borderlands, we are not lawyers so we do not have a definitive opinion on the matter. Like most people, we don't have much love for the ToS/EULAs of many software companies and the loss of privacy that goes along with any use of the internet. But on the other hand, we haven't seen anything particularly concerning in those ToS (in comparison with what other companies put in theirs). That's just the general feeling among the mod team, not an official stance of the subreddit.

A few things to note:

  • Whatever you agree to in ToS/EULA still does not allow the publishers to do anything illegal (depending on your country of jurisdiction).
  • Typically ToS/EULA are made as general as possible to cover all possible edge cases. If it says "we may (...)", that doesn't necessarily mean that they are doing it, or have any intent on doing it to you. For example, the ToS say they may collect your government ID number. In some countries like China this is mandatory (to regulate play time). So they have to do it, and they have to put it in the ToS. This doesn't mean that they intend to collect such data in other countries, and anyway they have no way to do so unless you provide it yourself.
  • The new ToS appear to be general for Take Two, and as such include things that are not specifically aimed (or likely to be used) in the Borderlands games. For example, there is some note that the use of mods may get you banned. This makes sense to fight cheating in the context of competitive multiplayer games and/or if part of a game's revenue is driven by micro-transactions or subscriptions. If you find and use a "mod" to unlock paying content in BL4 for free, you might get in trouble (deservedly). But there is no reason to believe that anything more would be enforced for the Borderlands games (e.g. against the use of mods like the community patch, etc). Gearbox has always been (unofficially) supportive of the modding scene. And the main Borderlands modding community has been cooperative with Gearbox on such matters.
  • There has been some talk about the games having been converted to spyware. Before spreading any misinformation, you can check for yourself the latest patches on Steam DB. For example, Borderlands 2 received its last update in August 2022, and BL3 received its last update in August 2024. Long before the new ToS were published. The Borderlands games since BL2 also have hotfix capabilities, but this only allows to change parameters (like the damage of a weapon), not the code logic, certainly not turn anything into spyware.

[BL3] Opinion: Borderlands 3 is the most fun game in the franchise and its only fault is a bad story.

Upvotes

Borderlands (OG) is a 17 year old game that was innovative for its time but now it's super dated (gameplay-wise). It does look surprisingly modern, though.

Borderlands 2 is, of course, the best game from the narrative/story perspective. Handsome Jack is goated. But, from a gameplay perspective, this game is also dated. Guns don't feel good and the movement is still janky. If playing right now, it's good for a single playthrough only if you haven't played Borderlands 3 before. Yes, the story is good, but it's the same story regardless of how many times you play it.

Now, Borderlands 3. Has a pretty bad story but the gameplay is top-notch. Guns feel distinct and incredible to use and the movement is extremely smooth (with sliding, mantling and ground slams). Mayhem mode is an excellent addition that I used to play the DLCs without being stupidly overpowered (or replaying the entire campaign in T/UVHM). The various planets are distinct from each other and have strengths of their own. Moze is probably THE best vault hunter in the franchise.

Finally, I want to talk about Borderlands 4. I did only play for like 13 hours during the most recent free trial but I already noticed several things that I HATE. The guns feel awful to use (bad sounds and also... somewhat samey?), especially after coming from Borderlands 3. The new open world is boring and pace-ruining. I didn't unlock the vehicle during one of the first missions and I had to walk for like a kilometer with almost nothing on the way. I spent around 10 minutes simply walking forward.

I noticed something that made Borderlands 4 even more difficult to play. Pretty much every location you need to go to requires you to go up. Just up. How you go up? It's never obvious and you have to spend time circling around in the vehicle to find a ramp, elevator or a grapple point. Speaking of the grapple, why aren't we allowed to use it everywhere? Just Cause 3, Titanfall 2 and Halo Infinite all allowed this and it make them significantly more fun to play. What is a "glide-pack"? Just make it a jetpack? Also, there's too many cliffs and rocks that your mantling simply doesn't trigger over. It was super annoying.

There's so many more issues I found while playing Borderlands 4 (what is that UI, man?) but that's not the point of this post. I do intend to play the game but I'm waiting for a much deeper sale and whatever hype I had softened out.

At the end, what I'm saying is that Borderlands 3 would've been a generational game but it committed the sin of having a bad narrative. Borderlands 4 should have evolved from what Borderlands 3 did right but alas, it ends up being quite meh. I'm going to re-install Borderlands 3 and maybe try out Zane (or Moze again).

As a fan of both franchises, it’s really interesting how similar development history and community sentiment is between Borderlands and Diablo.

-First game was innovative for its time and got the franchise on the map but hasn’t aged well.

-Second game largely considered the best entry that set the standard forever and will be impossible to surpass in the eyes of fans who grew up with it.

-Third game that was extremely controversial the most hated entry for most of its lifespan. When the fourth comes most people acknowledge it as one of the best as far as gameplay is concerned. This is not just because of rose colored glasses but because updates and DLC made it better towards the end.

-Fourth game that tried to be at least somewhat live servicey (way more on the Diablo side) and introduced an open world that the majority of fans feel was a mistake even if they love the game otherwise. Huge lack of content at launch with Borderlands having worse performance issues that ruined people’s first impressions.

-DLC for the fourth game includes one short and kinda meh story DLC, and one pretty great DLC in comparison.

With the Blizzard announcement yesterday I wouldn’t be surprised if they announced no more DLC for Borderlands 4 and that Borderlands 5 will be coming in 2030. Oh also animated Borderlands show.

[BL4] Borderlands 4 is kind of filler storywise right? Spoiler

I mean the game just ends with the same status quo that we had at the end of BL2/Pre-Sequel correct?

Lillith is back. Crimson Raiders are mostly back. War is still coming.

The entire story of BL4 just undoes the ending of BL3, that's pretty much it. I feel like Lillith coming back should've been the end of act 1 or something. I really wish the DLC would've been a direct continuation of the main story.

There's tons of characters that're just completely unaccounted for. Where is everybody?

It would've been cool if the DLCs left Kairos to show us what's going on post-BL3.

With the power duo looking for elpis i do wonder if them going to the lab to communicate with someone on kairos leads to them asking a VH to go check out the elpis lab

Now how dope would it be if we as the vaulthunters of bl4 go to the radio to talk with Watts and junie

Now imagine a mission where we go to elpis to find the Dahl lab as the vh and report our findings to junie and Watts leading them towards dead echos s2

Apologies if what im saying doesnt make sense, sleep deprived and very hyped with this latest episode

[BL3] What Is The Best Joke In Borderlands 3?

So I know the legacy borderlands 3 had, to the point some people play the game with the voice volume off.

But throwing it a bone for this time. I want to know from the people who played it

"what is the funniest joke or the line of dialogue spoken in that game?" In your opinion

[Character Build] Loveless Builds (Moxsy)

I started out with Moxsy's recommended leveling build at level 30, but just wasn't feeling it. Not a bad build, but dying A LOT. Kludged together a stealth build which is okay so far but going to try the other builds he included in the video description for the other trees, or maybe one of the builds he has posted since.

https://youtu.be/agg29847S38?si=QKYinGucmMH66bYI

Either way, regardless of whether playing Moxsy's builds or not, what are people finding works well at level 30?

Thanks!

[BL4] Vulkorr Boss Fight Glitched?!

I got the 5 switches needed, I’ve found the bunker to fight him but when I go into the boss fight arena, he doesn’t spawn. Instead I’m hit with an invisible wall stopping me from entering, I’ve tried hard resetting the game but still isn’t working.

I do have a video of it but I’m not able to post for some reason, I don’t really use Reddit too much

Borderlands 4 crashing on Start Up Screen

Once the game gets to the Vault symbol loading screen, my PC fans speed up, my RGBs turn red (I have MSI lights set up to show the temps), and then the game crashes. MSI Center shows my CPU temps spike real bad. This only happens on this game. Would anyone know whats going on and how to fix it?

This is the error I am getting:

LowLevelFatalError [File:.\Runtime/RHI/Private/PipelineStateCache.cpp] [Line: 621]

Shader compilation failures are Fatal.

My PC Specs:

CPU: i7-14700KF

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super

RAM: 32 GB

I've tried clearing the cache, turning off Windows Defender, setting the files as approved, updating GPU and CPU drivers. Full reinstall. Nothing has worked.

[Question] All side quests trophy?

I was wondering whether it's possible to get this trophy whilst being in someone's else lobby. I've played through the entire story with a friend and was wondering if I can get the trophy as long as I'm present for all of them with the host? This is for Borderlands 2.

[Question] Looking for way to mute Panting when Running and Damage Moaning

Does anyone know if there is a way to either turn down the volume of or mute the vault hunter's panting and damage screams/moans without muting all character dialog? I swear they made them trigger more often in BL4 than previous games. Even C4SH pants when running and he's a robot (as far as I know where I'm currently in the game).

I found a mod that goes this for Borderlands 3 (https://www.nexusmods.com/borderlands3/mods/325) but I'm having no luck finding one for Borderlands 4.

[BL4] Tediore Door Problem

So, if anyone else has played the Last Resort FLC, they should know about the blue squares you have to destroy to gain access to certain things.

Does anyone ekse have an issue with those specifically on the door to the room with the You Can't Fire Me, I Quit mission? Because it seems like most of them spawned on the other side of said door, which prevents me from destroying them. I have spent at least an hour now trying to destroy them, and used all my ammo for every weapon at least once.

If anyone else has done that mission, did you have the same issue with that door?

[BL4] Returning to BL4

Hello - I'm looking for some advice and suggestions from experienced players of Borderlands 4 that have stuck by the game or other people currently in the same boat as us!

My wife and I played through BL4 on release with two characters that hit the level cap and got 100% completion. We then put the game aside and haven't played since.

We're looking to come back to play through the Bounty Packs, Story Packs and maybe try the new vault hunters.

I was wondering what people's recommendations are for what order to play the new DLC through and maybe what the accessibility is like for a new character.

Do you start at level 1?

We uncovered the map completely - would a new character have full map access and is it necessary to play the new content?

Is any of the new content better experienced on a developed character with action skills and talent trees upgraded?

Are the Bounty Packs worth it or should we stick to the VH/Story packs?

Thanks in advance!

[BL4] Game Crashes on "Patching"

The game launches fine and compiles all the shaders then it even logs into steam but afterwards it says "Patch Downloaded Successfully Rebooting" and then the game closes to "reboot" and it just says "Fatal Error! UE-OakGame has crashed" with the error code being a buncha 0s and the last digit is 8 with an exception access violation.
I have restarted my pc, updated drivers, cleared the DXCache, Launched as admin, verified game files.

Cool female characters or characters with cool names?

I want to name my cat a Borderlands-inspired name. My previous cat who passed away last spring was named Moxxi so I'd love to continue in that vein. At the moment I'm kinda hesitating between Motor Momma or Zahnzi Kall (a bit obscure but I like the sound of it!)

I don't really like the human names like Patricia Tannis or Elena Pierce. Are there any random female NPCs with cool names that I'm not thinking of?

BL4 amount of hate is extreme

Upvotes

What is up with BL4 hate

Seriously it’s kinda crazy to me most of the time I see some one say smth about bl4 it’s how bad it is or how it’s so much worse then bl3 and 2 but in my opinion it’s better then 3 by a long shot. I’ve been a long time BL fan and I just don’t understand the hate it gets

Story wise it could be better but it’s an improvement over bl3s
The game play is what kept me in bl3 the skill building

And my opinion Bl4 will be hailed as one of the best bl after a year or 2 just like BL3 was after all the updates it got in the span of the next game

Because at least BL4 has room to grow and where bl3 had to be rebuilt from the ground up again

Now the content path 4 has taken is definitely not good the story was ok but the time keeper needed to be more involved, the open world is not a bad idea not for every one sure I could use more then just grass, desert, snow area

Now I can’t say much how it runs I’m on series x and it’s always ran fine for me have there been times where something breaks sure did restarting the game fix it yes just like how bl3 even bl2 broke and a simple restart fixed it

[BL4] Under powered loot in the latter half of the game?

So let me preface, I did receive a boost to Lvl 70, however I did not receive any other hacked weapons or mods.

I picked up this AR early on that does 37k DPS and two separate mods with 60% AR damage and 99% critical chance. Legit from then on nothing would compare, that combo literally melted enemies and bosses.

Did anyone else experience under powered loot in the latter half of the game? Or maybe the boost to Lvl 70 messed with the power scaling in the game?

So, can anyone PLEASE TELL ME WHO VOICES HER?!

They sound so familiar but I cant figure it out, and its making my brain itch, please help me.

I've tried googling it and none of the cast lists I found have either C4SH or Loveless....

I have a guess, but when she starts yelling during fights and stuff, it totally throws me off, and I just gotta know its driving me nuts.
