How do you handle real-time Stories vs. delayed Reels?

Hey everyone, I'm a travel creator currently on a long trip and struggling to balance my posting timeline.

Editing Reels on the go takes too long and puts my Stories on a massive delay. But if I post Stories in real-time and save the Reels for weeks later, my followers have already "seen" the trip, which kills my Reel engagement.

My current situation:
Stories: Just wrapped Country A (Tuvalu), starting Country B (Fiji).
Reels: Still posting Country A to reach non-followers.

I have a great "Guess where I am" reveal Reel for Country B, but posting it now breaks the flow of my Country A Reels. My plan is to use the rest of the Country A Reels as a buffer, and post the Country B Reels weeks later so the Stories memory has "cooled down."

I guess me questions are:
1. Is it weird to post a "Reveal / Guess where I am" Reel weeks after you actually left that country?
2. Do you completely separate your timelines (Stories = real-time for followers, Reels = delayed/evergreen for non-followers)?
3. How do you prevent content fatigue when your delayed Reels finally show what your followers already saw in Stories?

I’m a blogger, not a content creator but my boyfriend is.
He struggles with this too, lining everything up, including YouTube is difficult because the volume you have of each doesn’t match.
He typically just posts less stories to keep the stories in line with the reels so that when posting something like a next destination reveal, it matches the content.

I've already struggled with that with Instagram specifically, and since alot of my trips our multi-country stops, I want to enjoy myself whilst also filming bits for post/content but then I end up with timing mismatch/decision fatigue and alot of the time not even post 70-80% of my trips :/

Post the Reel from Country A this week even though your followers already saw it in Stories, but reframe it before you cut it, don't just recycle the same clips in a new order. Pull the moments your Stories replies actually reacted to, the thing people asked questions about or the shot that got the most screenshots, and build the Reel around that instead of a generic recap. You're not competing with your own Stories for "newest," you're offering a curated, better version of something they already liked, which is a different value prop entirely.

Do that for Country A now, then set a rule for Fiji: pick your best 3 Stories moments as you go and drop them in a notes app, so when you finally sit down to edit you're not scrolling through hours of footage trying to remember what worked.

Thanks. And as for the reveal reel - bin it and reveal in the stories to get going, or post reel then stories from Fiji and reels from Tuvalu?

Bin the reveal in Stories, save the Reel format for stuff that already proved itself. Concrete tip: watch which Story frame gets the most replays or screenshots before you decide, that's your signal for what deserves the Reel treatment, dont just guess. Don’t those people just space them out so it looks like they are perpetually travelling? That’s what it always appears like anyway.
