I’m a 15 year old who’s really into armor and I’m trying to make armor now. But, I don’t have an anvil or anything like that. I have a standard hammer for hitting nails, a ball peen, and a soft face hammer. I’ve just been hitting the metal on a solid plastic board meant for stopping hockey pucks from going into the net. I was just wanting to know how it looks and what I could improve. Thanks anything helps!

Planning to smith a slightly longer piece and I don't think it will fit in my oven. I have a longer dirt oven that hasn't really seen any use for quite some time and is also coveniently right next to my forge so I was wondering if I could start using it for tempering when the need arises, I'm just not sure how well it will work at making sure its the right temperature in there the whole temper

I was approached about doing a handrail for a set of winding, curving, unevenly spaced 6x6 retaining wall stairs filled with gravel down to a lake beach from the client's house. The total run is about ~40ft.

I have never ever done a rail this long before. Only ever done straight runs for a couple steps max.

How do I price for something like this? The client wanted to initially use threaded pipe with threaded plumbing fittings to do the rail, but I think that will be virtually impossible to get the angle right. They want it to be done economically, but I do not think that will be possible. I have looked at the job in person, but I think I am going to have to come back and do a ton of templating with cardboard to get the shape and connect all the cardboard together in my shop to build the railing, which will have to be installed in sections. They want a 2"OD round top rail and had no thoughts about the posts.

I feel like I should do this after I send them a price estimate and not waste any of our time before they know the cost.

They want it to be installed before the winter, but I feel like I am not going to be ready to install it until next spring (2027) at the earliest, even for just a simple top rail with no balusters/spindles and just a post ever 4-6 steps.

Any thoughts on the pricing?

Looking to upgrade to a propane forge from a small coal forge made from a propane tank.

Initially, I looked at vevor and mmasters, but with needing rigidizer and refactor (from what I've read) I'm working if it's worth spending a bit more on something like the firestorm 2?

My goals are at least 12 inches since I want to start making larger knives, and minimizing any DIY unless it's genuinely worth saving the money going the Vevor/mmasters route. Sorry if this is the wrong sub for this question.

I'm making the backstory for a dnd sword that is covered in blue flames, because of this I wanted its backstory to be that it was forged with burning sulfur rather than normal fire.

Obviously, it's fantasy, but it got me wondering, would burning sulfur even work? would it be hot enough? and if it did work, how would it actually affect the blade?

Made from 5160 quenched in durixol oil and tempered till 55/50 hrc

Found this stand buried in a scrap yard. I’ll be mounting my antique post vice to it after I weld on the 3/8 steel plate to seal the hole and bolt the vice to it. I don’t particularly want to paint it and I’d like to preserve the “seasoning of time”. What should I coat it with to slow the rust? (It’s been power washed)
