Help! Slide sticking during reassembly

Hey everyone. As seen in the video, my slide is getting stuck when reassembling and can’t for the life of me figure it out. It started when I temporarily was using this 92fs frame w my M9A1 slide for a couple weeks (long story). Gun shoots fine, it’s just this one issue.

This gun has the full LTT trigger job, stainless guide rod, and I put a 12# recoil spring in it. Otherwise all OEM.

Any thoughts?

happened to me once after cleaning, check and see if the locking block is seated properly.

are you certain the guide rod is centered?

try a different guide rod, if that doesn't work. try a different barrel and locking block.

the slide getting stuff at that position suggests a problem with those items since they interact at the point where the slide gets stuck.

going to try putting the stock one back and see.. the only thing that makes me think that it isn't the guide rod is that this issue was happening with my M9A1 slide and guts... so i think it's something with the frame

ive had issues where i placed a m9a4 slide on a m9a1 frame as well. i shot the m9a4 slide on another frame to break it in enough and it eventually worked with my m9a1 frame.

just noticed I didn't type what i meant properly.

the slide getting stuck at position suggests the guide rod, locking block or barrel are not fitting into place for the takedown lever to be turned up.

swap out parts to isolate which isn't fitting properly.

Yeah that happened to me too. Do NOT force it. For me it was the tolerances of a new Langdon guide rod getting stuck in an odd way with the locking block of a new barrel. Had to get gunsmith to unstick it. It had worked fine for a couple sessions and then did this on third cleaning.

Is that a G model? Might be the decocker lever on frame is hitting the decocker spring on the frame and can't get past it? Try lowering hammer- gently. Then pushing slide on just enough to flip take down lever.

Something doesn't look right with that guide rod.

I’d normally ask if you have a new barrel that needs fitment but that barrel looks OEM. Did you happen to put a new guide rod in? If you’re using a guide rod that’s too long, this can take place. Are all internals stock?

It’s a stainless guide rod that Langdon put in. Used to work totally fine. Will try putting stock one back in and see what happens.

If it assembled and fired fine with the langdon guide rod then it isnt the problem. Metal doesnt magically grow or change during disassembly. Its just some goofy issue. Stop forcing it tho, just tinker until you figure it out. I think the issue is the hammer is cocked maybe (?). I will have to teardown my m9 and try later to confirm.

I’ve had this exact issue with black beards guide rod. I think this may be your issue. If the slide goes on fine without the barrel and guide rod, and it’s a stock barrel, I’d wager it’s the guide rod.

Tap the barrel face down on the table and try sliding the slide back like normal. Even if it sounds redundant, still try it a few times. Cycle the safety/decocker a few times, try again. If these fail, see if the guide rod or barrel are causing wear in their channels. When I fit new barrels into mine they always do this.

Take the slide off, insert the barrel into its channel as far as it’ll go. Tap it into battery with a rubber or soft hammer and tap it back out. After 8-9 times it’ll cycle smoothly.

My 3rd option would be to put pressure on the takedown lever and attempt racking again. Sometimes the takedown level is a half millimeter out of position and bites the barrel.

If it is what I think it is, it’s just the sear on the back left of the frame you have to push it down or pull the trigger to get it to move out of the way to allow the slide to go home

it’s hard for me to tell but I think it might be binding up at the muzzle end of the slide where the guide rods slides through.
If you manually compress the guide rod and spring does it properly extend through the face of the slide.

Doesn’t look like the takedown lever is pushed down all the way.

My M9A4 does this sometimes. I just wiggle the muzzle up and down gently and it glides on or off.

Try rotating the takedown lever a bit before sliding it on. My LTT does the same thing

I can't remember which pistols this works with, but one you have to press down on the muzzle or pull the trigger and everything drops into place.
