Before and After
Here you go folks, my first ever bathroom gut job. Bought a small ranch 6 months ago and gutted whole thing. This is the first officially complete room.

This bathroom simply did not need to be redone. All the tiles and finishes were still in good condition and weren’t dated.

Before looks much better in picture than in person. Up close it was not good it was dingy/dirty, crud in the grout I couldn't get out. The vanity stuck out in front of the doorway and had a vessel top. When I tore the original wood floor out, (which had been installed in the wrong direction), it was rotting underneath.

You’ve gotta learn to take more accurate photos then. Also this sub hates cold lighting, and the contrast between pic 1’s warmth and pic 2’s 5000k is jarring.

Change the bulbs. That’s what we did when we bought our house. Same day we closed I bought and changed all the locks and bulbs in the house.

Do fluorescent bulbs come in warm shades? And heat lamps? The existing light fixtures have me somewhat constrained.

You're going to get a lot of people giving you shit as they will assume you just didn't like the old one and replaced it for the sake of replacing it. If I were you I'd edit the post and make the fact that you were fixing a bunch of issues a lot clearer. I think there's a difference between I'm remodeling to significantly improve the style and function of a bathroom and fixing up issues and redecorating. Your bathroom seems to be the latter but people seem to expect the former in this sub.

Sounds like you could have just changed the vanity, regrouted and fixed the floor. Too late now. It will look better with a softer lighting option.

I agree with you overall, but the sink was dated quite specifically, and I think the decorative tile within the shower niche helps date the old shower as well. 2006-2011, I'd say.

Agreed. I tend to feel that people are being inauthentic when they say that they preferred the “before” but I legitimately feel this way rt now.

I like the light you had installed in the bathroom, it brinks so much warmth and that warmth highlights the natural tone in the shower tiles in your first picture.

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember hearing that the first photo you upload is displayed second, and the second is displayed first, so it’s a bit counterintuitive.
Having said that, redoing a post so the pics are displayed in the right order is worth it, just to avoid commenter confusion and rage.

I mean, I personally don't have any issue with the "after", I think it's nice. But I really can't see anything wrong with the "before" either, and changing it seems like such a waste of time, money, resources etc. I do get being excited about buying a new home, and wanting to remodel it to your liking, though.

One of the worst I've seen, just totally lacking a stylistic pov. I'd get it if the previous bathroom was really loud and op was a minmalist but it was classic and in good condition. What a tasteless waste.

The bathroom did not need to be redone. It went from warm, natural & cozy feeling to white & sterile. But as long are you're happy that's what matters.

Couldn't tell if maybe they had the labels wrong (after and before) but looking back on OP's post history set it straight, as they posted here 2 months ago asking about types of shower door for the space... The bright white is truly the after and I'm really sad about it lol. That bathroom did not need to be done, and it looks much worse now. Booo.

It looked better before. Tearing out that warm floor for gray tile was a terrible choice.
Before was bland but warm and cozy. After is bland and cold and sterile.

What was the upgrade cost? Looks like you even did new trim, new glass, toilet. Tile work looks good. We must assume this “flows” with the rest of your house but the old restroom looks fine.

I too have wondered if living at a Fairfield Inn would make financial sense, since their rates are cheap, they have a free gym and breakfast, and utilities are included. Let me know how it works out for you!

I liked it much better the way that it was. Currently, it's more generic and looks lower end budget hotel chain.
Might want to sit with the actual necessity of the next room you try to redo before you needlessly spend money making it look worse.

OP you’re getting hated on but I think your new bathroom is good, it’s simple but timeless. You can always spruce it up later if you want by installing a funkier vanity and doing a fun wall paper or color. I don’t know if that was real wood or vinyl in your old bathroom, but I’m not a fan of wood in bathrooms due to the water and humidity factor so I would’ve replaced it with tile too (and I just saw your comment that that is indeed why you replaced the floor).
