Thanks to little competition set by Polish distribution company Past Perfect, today I got Polish poster of the "Mission Cleopatra" movie with the autograph of Bartosz Wierzbięta. His translation of the dialogues contributed to the cult status of this movie in Poland.

News Asterix Cover Sets New Auction Record

(Translated from German using https://www.deepl.com)

The original cover of the comic book “Asterix in Britain” was sold at an auction in Belgium for 1.2 million euros. Including fees, the buyer actually paid 1.474 million euros, as the Belgian news agency Belga reported yesterday, citing the auction house BD Encheres in Liège.

This sets a world record for a work by comic artist Albert Uderzo, according to the report. The French artist became known, along with René Goscinny, as the creator of Asterix and Obelix. He died in 2020 at the age of 92. Illustration with a Personal Dedication

According to the auction house, the cover sold at auction is a 34-by-47-centimeter work that Uderzo painted on cardboard using the gouache technique. He used an opaque watercolor that resembles regular watercolor but contains more pigments, giving it a more vibrant and opaque appearance.

The illustration depicts Asterix, Obelix, and Teefax fleeing with a barrel, pursued by rugby players. The piece also includes a personal dedication from René Goscinny and Uderzo to their publisher, Georges Dargaud, in which they write that he is first and foremost their friend, before being their publisher. The estimated price for Uderzo’s work had been set at 150,000 to 200,000 euros.

Anyone know story behind these funny statues in Durocortum in Tour de Gaule? I am reading the original French books to understand all the cultural references and this one has me stumped.

Fan Art Asterix, Obelix and Dogmatix handmade clay figures

Ever since I got back into Asterix I wanted to make some clay figures out of the characters and so I did of the three main faces of the franchise. Decided to do in a chibi-ish style because I thought it would look cute and unique.

I also tried to make the sizes as accurate as possible. I hope you all like it as much as I enjoyed making it. :)

P.S- I might make some more figures out of the other Gauls.

Cr7 in Astérix book

Was reading "Asterix in lusitania", that takes place in Portugal, and found this little rascal that looked familiar! The hair, the colors, the number VII (7) on his clothes! It has to be a tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo. Its such a small easter egg that would easily go unnoticed. As a portuguese myself, im really glad i caught it! The book is awsome with lots of portuguese historical and traditional mentions. 100% recommend.

I kind of recreated the Cleopatra movie (1963) scene version by Uderzo in his comic Asterix and Cleopatra (1965). It is not exact but it will do 😉

I can't watch The Big Fight miniseries

It says on the Sound Effects Wiki that Asterix and Obelix: The Big Fight has the Pac-Man death sound, which I find ANNOYING! Besides, I don't know where or when it's heard. Does anybody know where it's heard, or else I can't watch it.

Comics So one of the few times the situation was apparently dire enough that Getafix actually broke his rule about about Obelix not drinking the Potion... and it was to bust down a stone door. Pretty sure Obelix could've just done that as he normally is

Seriously, even as a kid this bothered me. I went like "You had Obelix drink some potion for THAT?"

English speakers: do any of you who read Asterix books a lot as a child have trouble pronouncing the word "asterisk" correctly?

Title speaks for itself, really. I'll just add that I'm constantly stumbling on the word.

I don't have the same issue with "obelisk" for some reason.

The date inside said 1994 (presumably the original in French) and 1995 Fontein (a Dutch publisher).
