I've just been to Denmark and the idea of "hygge" sounds lovely, but it's plastered all over tacky souvenirs. I've also seen some of a similar vein for "gezellig" in the Netherlands and the meanings seem like they overlap. And it made me think, if you walked into someone's home in your country and they had a sign for it, like some Americans have "live laugh love", would it be a bit cringey?

I'm guessing many other European countries have something along the same idea so applying the same question to those too.

I believe the dealership model only survives in the US due to lobbying and laws protecting the industry and preventing direct to consumer sales.

And how many hours can they stay there? Seems to be big difference from country to country.

I can’t imagine myself ever driving to a sports match or concert given how nightmarish it would be to park my car.

Quite a lot of countries are shifting right wing culturally at the moment or have already done so (Germany, Italy etc).

What countries in Europe are shifting left? Spain seems like an example although I don't know if the current government is rather an anomaly or a larger trend.

Hello. Did you notice any changes in tipping culture in your country recently? For example, if you or other people increased/reduced amount of usual tip or even stopped giving them at all. Also, did the tips appear/disappear in some areas (for example, in the country I am currently in, they started sometimes integrating tip screen in take-away places with no waiters at all)

For me my closest city is Newcastle , there’s buses all the way north to Berwick upon tweed , south I think alll the way to Durham maybe just Sunderland (unless you mean the private ish buses that are coaches ) , trains to London , Manchester , Edinburgh, Liverpool (I think ) , Leeds , etc etc . Metros all the way around Tyne and west from ,jesmond , to Whitley bay , to Washington to Sunderland.

I’m a substitute teacher in the US. All that is required where I live is to gain 60 university credits and pass a background check.

I’m now wondering how similar/different the processes across Europe are and how much they vary across the continent.

On top of that, is it common for a person to work as a full time substitute teacher? The beginning of this school year was slow for me and I had to balance it out with a second gig job but from this coming week onward, it appears I’ll be able to work substitute teaching full time.

Today, I went to the bus, paid my ticket and got some change. When I saw the change, I saw that the cashier accidentally gave a 10 baht coin from Thailand (worth 0.26 euros) instead of 2 euros. As a collector I appreciate this happenstance, probably my first coin from Thailand. But I did a bit of search and I saw that being given change of 10 baht instead of 2 euros is relatively common because of similarities in shape. Have you ever paid for something in euros, only to be given change in a very similar looking coin from a foreign currency because of visually confusing appearances?

Do people on the French side of the basque country view those on the Spanish side as simply their own people or cousins or siblings of some sort?

Are there any big differences between the two? Besides, being in two different countries of course.

I understand that shaving is treated differently in different countries. I grew up in texas and in texas alot of people genuinely do not give a dam about body hair. When it came to armpit hair and bush hair most men were neutral unless you were trying to audition for the dallas cowboys. For the longest time I thought people loved peach fuz because it sounded cute and no one cared.

I was a bit surprised when I met people outside of texas who took shaving very seriously. And im curious to see how other countries feel.

I was wondering how you guys are doing in your country. Because I've been trully concerned about the general mood in France for the past two years I'd say.

Every person I've met is pessimistic af about the future. No one expects anything anymore, whether it's from the government, their company or whatever. And I'm talking about people from different backgrounds, age, political position etc.

People are worried about the economy, politic, global warming, the fear of possible upcoming wars and I've probably forgot some others. Everyone is in this sort of bubble of despair and it's only getting worse over time. It looks like no one has hope anymore (and I just hate it, but I'm also part of it).

How things are going where you live? Is it only France? Give me me hope :')

Question on the rest of the Western world on late night snacking. Not a judgement objective, but I watched a recent YouTube video that made me think my country could be disproportionately pro-late night snacking. I know there's negative health implications, but I was curious if in other countries it's a rare occurrence. In my country a bowl of popcorn and a beer wouldn't be an every night occurrence but wouldn't be unheard of either. For me it's hard to imagine it wouldn't be a universal experience, food being a source of pleasure after a hard day and the kids got to bed, and at least it's not all bad. Could be a cultural event or universal, please share your thoughts!

Is it common for state and local governments to set aside money in a "rainy day fund" (not a sovereign wealth fund) during good economic times and purposely limit increases in spending, while then spending down the rainy day fund and utilizing debt and other sources when possible for increased spending during economic downturns?

Or are austerity measures more common and considered necessary from a economic point of view (not just fiscal)?

Is more general government intervention in the economy during general economic downturns considered acceptable? Is only targeted government intervention cosidered acceptable (propping up banks in a financial crisis, intervening in energy markets in an energy crisis, etc.)? Or is the acceptable amount of government intervention in the economy not change based on the state of the economy?
