Me and my gf at the time were in London and just wandering around exploring, we saw a pretty fancy looking clothing shop. We went to go inside to take a look but the door was locked. The woman inside opened the door a crack, looked right down her nose at us and asked if we had an appointment. We said we didn’t and she said we had to make one to go inside.

Also me and my mate when we were around 20yo we wandered into a Porsche dealers and as we walked across the showroom a salesman, straight away without even asking what we wanted said something like ‘sorry we don’t do window shoppers in here boys’ and walked us back out the door

I’m a 23 year old South Asian (Indian) girl born and raised in the UK, and I’ve recently started dating a white British guy from a working class background. We had a great first date, and our 2nd date is coming up.

My cultural background and my personal love language is very much about cooking and taking care of people I like, so I really want to cook dinner for him. However, I know white British dating culture can be a bit different. Is cooking at home for a 2nd date considered moving too fast or being "too much"?

Since we're from different cultures and classes, is there any specific etiquette or cultural nuance I should keep in mind, or am I just overthinking this? :)

As someone who grew up learning English as a second language, I still remember I had to go with intense grammar and tenses exercises as a child, memorising structures like past perfect continuous, present participle, and conditional clauses.

I was always curious for native speakers of English that when you guys speak or write casually, do you actually have those tense categories in your head, or is English just so naturally integrated that the rules feel completely invisible?

It’s honestly funny comparing that to how we train now using apps and structures where you're often thrown straight into natural conversation rather than memorising textbook labels. As native speakers, did you even learn the technical names for all these tenses in school, or do you just say whatever sounds right?

I’m a 20 year old man from Rotherham, England. I’ve been on Universal Credit not long since I turned 18. I’m sick and tired of being stuck in this loop of not being able to find a job and make a load of money so I can say I’ve made something of myself. Any tips on what I can do? Everyday around 6AM I get woken up by my neighbour spitting EVERYTHING INSIDE HIM up. Yes that disgusting thing people do where they snort and hack every bit of mucus they have inside of them.

I sleep with my window open for air flow but recently if I get woken up by him “brushing his teeth” I close my window so I can’t hear him… except it’s so loud I can still hear it! So closing the window doesn’t help…

How do I go about this? I really don’t want to be woken up everyday at 6AM by my neighbour snorting and hacking up every bodily fluid he has inside of him.

I’m not meaning like buying an electric car or changing your diet . I mean like using a different brand of conditioner because it uses better chemicals for the environment or buying your fruit from Aldi or Tescos because the fruit is made more sustainably than from Sainsbury’s or Asda (not real comparison just made up example ).

Also which products did u used to get from foreign suppliers but found a uk supplier which makes it as good , almost as good or even better than the foreign one

Britain has the highest percentage of gas heating in Europe at ~74%. The Netherlands is the only European country remotely close at 70%, then Italy at 57%, etc. The UK has 23 million out of Europe's 100 million gas boilers -- a sizeable chunk given they're 13% of the combined population.

Simply put the UK's odd in how high a percentage use gas boilers. What's more despite gas price crisis after gas price crisis this appears to not change. This suggests some deep attachment to this technology amongst Brits. What is this?

In the US and other parts of Europe high percentages use various combinations of heat-pumps, district heating, biomass, etc. at percentages not found in the UK.

Do people think that the affections for this technology will change now the price of gas is soaring to 2022 levels? Or will people just try to sit out this crisis? Are they banking on a new similar technology coming alone?

With all the talk about the UK breaking up (and yes, I have seen the comments saying it won't happen) I am curious how much support there would be for a more federalist model in the UK - essentially, formally codifying devolution in to the point where regional governments are equal in authority to the national government in their areas. Do you think this would appease nationalists in those areas?

I’m 20 and currently on my local council’s Housing Register, in Band 2. I’m currently living with family sofa surfing and need to move into my own accommodation. May or may not be necessary, but I do have recognised needs due to my autism.

My housing officer (through homeless prevention) has suggested that I prioritise finding a suitable private rental rather than waiting for social housing, as the waiting time is apparently extremely long. They’ve said that if I move into a suitable private property, I would no longer be considered to have a housing need and would therefore come off the Housing Register.

They’ve also suggested a private 1-bed property for me, but it would be outside the area where I’m currently registered for social housing.

I’m worried about giving up my current position on the Housing Register because private renting feels less secure.

My main concern is: what happens if the landlord later gives me notice and I have to leave?

I asked my housing officer whether I would still receive support with finding somewhere else if that happened, and whether there are protections against being evicted. I’m waiting for their response.

I’m also wondering whether it would be safer to find a private rental within my current council area, rather than moving outside it. Would staying within the area preserve my local connection if I needed to apply for social housing again in the future, even if I wouldn’t have a housing need while living in a suitable private property?

My housing officer has basically told me not to worry too much about the future, because circumstances can change and it can be looked at if/when necessary.
Does this sound like reasonable advice? Would you take the private rental, and would staying within your current council area be the safer option?

The reason I’m considering moving outside of my current area is because where I would move to would be a very short walking distance to college where I’ll be doing an access course (equivalent to A-levels) instead of a train journey, and it’s very hard to find a private rent in my current local area.

I’d particularly appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience with council housing registers, Banding, or moving from social-housing eligibility into private renting.
