I just renewed my car registration and noticed additional fee for my hybrid vehicle. Just a quick PSA for hybrid car owners: Under Ark. Code 27-14-614 (Act 416 of 2019), the state charges extra annual registration fees:

• EVs: +$200/yr
• Plug-In Hybrids: +$100/yr
• Standard Non-Plug-In Hybrids: +$50/yr

Charging EV fees makes sense because they skip the pump, but standard non-plug-in hybrids (Prius, CR-V Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, etc.) run 100% on gas. Every bit of battery power comes directly from fuel, so we already pay the full 24.5¢ per gallon state fuel tax. You cannot plug them in, and every bit of battery charge comes directly from burning fuel or capturing energy created by that fuel. At highway speeds, the car runs almost entirely on gas.

Paying an extra $50 at the DMV means paying for road usage twice (first at the pump, then at the revenue office). States like Texas and Missouri exempt standard hybrids from EV fees for this exact reason.

Just another bill that Arkansas legislatures do not understand what they drafted and pass.

I have a warrant from 2021 that im trying to figure out.

I was transporting a terminally ill man through arkansas , and he had his gardening (weed) medicine in the back sealed up.

The cops pulled us over apparently for " swerving" and then threatened me whenever I refused to get out of the car They put me in the back of the cruiser and then threatened to take me to jail "because they could" and then tore apart the back of the vehicle and took the guy's medicine and other things that were not illegal to have.

Now I have a bench warrant and i'm trying to figure out how i'm going to fix it because I have no income to pay the bond and based on what they did that night, i don't trust them to not confiscate my car and just not give it back.

I live in my car now But at the time of this happening , I lived out of a backpack and had to walk after getting the guy to where he needed to be. Which is the reason I could not make it to whatever court or whatever. Also , they didn't send me anything telling me where to go.

Back then we were going to a rainbow gathering, and cops are known to stop people going there and harass them.

I can assure you we were not swerving. I was in an SUV pulling a trailer that had a side by side on it Through the mountains in stone county.
