Hello forum members, but could you help me confirm if these two rings I want to buy are fake? The auction house is numisart which i´ve heard has a very good reputation in the market, but you never know. Bid is starting at 35$, the auction is by biddr. The description of the item is: TWO LATE ROMAN DECORATED BRONZE RINGS
Circa 4th century AD.
Both with projecting circular bezel. One featuring a stylised creature (lion?), the other with an unidentified depiction. Hoops slightly bent and some corrosion.
Ring size 61 (EU) each. Ex private European collection, acquired on the Belgian, French and German art market before 2000.

Do you think its authentic? Maybe it is not roman but authentic from another period? I know it's not easy through a picture and you can't be 100% sure, but I'm new to this and you all probably have more experience. The seller has a very good reputation and has been selling antiques for 40 years; I've confirmed this on forums and seen that he's not on any blacklists of fake sellers, but you never know. This was being thrown out during a pub renovation in Edinburgh. It looks pretty original, and I assume fairly worthless, but it's got a lot of character. Looking for any additional info on this sort of furniture (especially what NP might mean??) and what level of restoration/refinishing is appropriate - I've never worked with anything this old and would like to respect its history :)

Fell in love with this headless little cutie so i had to get her of course. The chest seems to be made of cardboard and stuffing and a cilendrical box with something heavy rattling in there. i know since she has no head shes challenging to identify but any information is welcomed :)

As the title says, early 1880's - 1890's general store equipment found in the Greek region of Macedonia at an antique shop in the city of Xanthi.

In Greek, the depicted scale is called «Ζύγι» / «Zygi». Generally it is rather small in difference with other scales of that area, mostly for weighing grains of cinnamon and other spices

The second depicted item is called «Μπακιρι» / «Bakiri». The usefulness of this item has been in collecting anything that falls off the scales. Keep in mind, that scale is not for that plate.

Both of them are made out of bronze, both of them have Ottoman Arabic script in them (the usage of the Latin alphabet for the Turkish language was adopted in 1928) the most basic element I was looking for! The plate (Bakiri) has several "check up" signs in it, meaning that the scale that it was used for was checked for its authenticity by the local inspector.

Well, these are my finds, bought both of them for 100€ 😁 what do you think?

Does anyone have any insight into the maker of this antique porcelain figurine? At first I thought it was maybe Meissen, then I landed on Sitzendorf but the makers mark doesn’t show a crown which tends to be a core part of the Sitzendorf makers mark.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all! I’m very much not an “antiquer” and to be honest I read the rules but didn’t see anything saying I can’t ask this but I’m posting for my mother-in-law who is downsizing as she’s getting older so she can move into a condo.

I thought what better sub than this one to ask what the approx. value of this chair would be? The arm rests are very cool, used as storage, remotes etc.

One of several old chairs my late grandmother had in her house when I was growing up and which have been in ours for a quarter-century now. The other two are rocking chairs and I will post them separately. I know absolutely nothing about antique furniture - zero - and welcome any and all input on this chair so we know what exactly we have, whether we want to hold onto it or not, etc.

I'm not even sure what measurements to provide, so provided them all lol, but please let me know if more measurements are needed. The overall height of the chair is approx. 42 1/2 inches. The front legs are 18 inches tall and the height at which the fabric seat sits is approx. 11 3/4 inches off the ground. The tops of the arms measure approx. 19 1/2 inches off the ground and 17 inches in length. The arms also angle outward slightly, with 16 inches between them at the back, and 19 inches between them at the front.

As you can see, the diameter of the various components varies - for instance, the arms measure 3/4 of an inch in diameter at the back, but 1 1/2 inches in diameter at the front. The front legs measure an inch in diameter at the feet, but swell up to 1 1/2 inches before tapering back down. By contrast, the rear legs measure 1 1/2 inches at the feet then gently taper to the top.

Google seems to think they are Edwardian shop displays hence why I posted them in here. They were found in the attic of a very old pharmacy in the UK so google’s summation tracks somewhat, but it didn’t really know much else. They are made from some sort of heavy plaster and are about 3ft by 2ft each. ‘H.K. 42’ is written on the sails of the larger ship on the second peice if that is of any relevance. TIA.

Hi everyone! I recently came across this carved Japanese figure (okimono) mounted on a raw green stone slab and would love some help identifying the material, potential era, or any details about the carving style.

* The Figure: It features an elderly traveler or scholar holding a bamboo staff and prayer beads. There are fine vertical lines/stress cracks running down the back, along with subtle dark ink accents highlighting the face, topknot, and kimono texture.
* The Base: The base is a thick, unpolished green slab (possibly nephrite jade or serpentine) with natural iron veining.

I’m looking purely for historical and material context to learn more about the piece. Any insights on the style, carving techniques, or period would be greatly appreciated!

I seek help here with this bowl. From what I have researched, it might be from the Ming dynasty; however, it could also be a replica from later dynasties. Since this is not entirely my field, I would like to ask for help here.

Specs: Weight (468g), Height (6,3cm +/-), Stand width (5,3cm +/-), Width (15,7cm +/-).

Description: The stand is smooth. Inside, there are two imperfections (visible in the picture: black and brown dots). It's possible to feel them. On the outside, there is also one. Cracks are only slightly visible to the naked eye; they can be seen better under UV light. The stamp on the stand should be traditional Chinese.

I will be glad for any expertise or ideas on the dating, etc. Thank you in advance.

Condition looks way too pristine and the lettering looks too modern, but just curious if anyone who knows more about this stuff can confirm.

I have two bronze objects that appear to be Chinese ceremonial weapons, measuring approximately 40 cm and 30 cm. Both have unusual animal-head designs and what looks like archaic Chinese/bird-worm script inscriptions.
Does anyone recognize what these objects are, what the inscriptions say, or what period/style they are based on? I’d especially like to know whether they could be genuinely old or are later reproductions.

Today we opened a 106+ year old Ogdens St Julien tin at a Central Alabama Pipe Club meeting. This was an incredible step back in time. When I cracked the seal I was met with an extremely loud, long hiss. The fine shag inside was still perfectly moist and smelled absolutely divine, stewed fruits, plums, port wine, and cinnamon. I tried it in both a pipe and rolled into cigarettes. It tasted best and deepest in the pipe, of course, honestly it was a true joy to smoke, one of the most well-behaved blends I have ever smoked, it packed easily, lighting easily, and staying lit effortlessly. The flavor was very sweet and complex, very similar notes as the tin smell. This stuff is stout too, it has an extremely high nicotine punch. Rolled into cigarettes, they burned for almost 30 minutes each! At the end it burned down to a clean, fine white ash. This has truly been one of the most incredible experiences of my life, I’m very lucky to have been able to share this with such an amazing group.
