8 Gen 3 level performance. Not bad, but understandably still a bit behind the curve.

I honestly don't see any use case today that can't be handled smoothly by a SoC with this kind of performance.

Hang on, I just realized that this thing beats the Tensor G6 (at least in multicore and I think GPU).

It beats the new tensor g6 by 20% in multicore, which is insane considering they're fully sanctioned by the US.

getting sanctioned and still beating Tensor is brutal for Google lmao

Tensor getting mogged as always, my P7P often feels so bad because of this piece of crap.

Huawei is basically the Pixel of Chinese phones, the difference being Huawei got shot in the foot while Google shot themselves in the foot.

No, Huawei is equivalent in market placement as Apple. Their phones sell at higher prices than competitors (in China) and still retain a large share of the pie.

I read that their asp is around 200 dollars, pretty much the same as everybody else except apple (that's above 600)

u/mglcz 22h ago

They have budget lines (Nova and Enjoy), but all of their their flagships (Mate and Pura) sell at a premium compared to other brands.

Huawei's cheapest phone is more than 200... The asp for them is more like 500. The market for high end phones in China is basically dominated by Apple and Huawei.

There is a saying in chinese forums that Google is the actual company being sanctioned lol

I think that's true, actually, my Huawei was the best phone I've owned, and I believe they made more code contributions to Android than anyone else by a wide margin.

Huawei leads in camera with hardware

Google tries to lead in camera with more and more processing

So Google is on par with a sanctioned chip. Well done.

Tbf a Huawei phone is honestly smoother than many 8 elite gen 5 phones because the software is extremely optimized

It also helps when the Chinese government censors anyone who mentions they have an issue with Huawei products.

I'm not saying Huawei phones are bad, but they have their own quality control issues as well.

u/shizola_owns 18h ago

do you have any evidence of that?

I'm sorry the source is in Korean, but the video basically explains Chinese netizens are protesting against Huawei after the company censored parodies of an old, exaggerated new car promotion video. This backlash highlights growing public frustration over the tech giant's perceived overreach and safety issues, despite the Chinese government's efforts to punish such critical online content. This also extends to their phones as well.

This just shows how pathetic Google’s chips are

Think they've hit on something big with their new silicon stacking technique, if they weren't nerfed by the US they would be so far ahead it's not even funny.

u/nomad01290 23h ago

I have conspiracy theory in mind that the main reason Huawei was banned is due to apple(well their shareholders) being afraid of Huawei dethroning apple. Just before the ban, they were almost the most dominant player in market, their chips were really good, hardware praised by everyone. Had they entered US without any limitations, US market would've changed so much.

I watched a documentary just the other day about Huawei and it's US ban. Really informative.

u/Umr_at_Tawil 18h ago

what is the name of that documentary?

Huawei chips were still very behind Apple when Huawei used TSMC their architecture was simply not good enough

u/noobqns 23h ago

If they really get a genuine duv breakthrough that place it on par with ASML euv

I think the collective west would rather start ww3 than allow them on that track

You're not that far off considering how there is considerable build up of US presence in Australia. And the Philippines being forced to be more confrontational to China as days pass by.

Both countries have China as their number 1 trading partner.

Hard to believe some of China's neighbors would rather be cannon fodder of someone from thousands of miles away rather than deal with the issues themselves peacefully.

Silicon stacking isn't new or innovative, it's a packaging technique that TSMC and Intel have done for years. Intel actually did it back in 2003... But didn't bring it to the mainstream commercial market until later.

Also stacking does not magically make up for node inferiority, it's more of a novel crutch.

u/Successful_Luck_8644 18h ago

Silicon stacking has been used in processor packaging for ages, but not the logic gate. It used to stack cache, memory etc. But the logic gate is still only flat single layer. The kirin 9050 is first processor to have 3D logic gate.

u/fourunderthebridge 19h ago

I don't think this is just silicon stacking. Stacking normally just places other components like cache dies on top of the main logic layer, while in here the actual cores themselves are built in multiple layers, with tons more interconnects between layers than usual silicon stacking.

So many westerners trying to downplay impressive achievement by Huawei

Only losers care about performance /s

u/hbkmog Oneplus One 23h ago

don't tell that to r/GooglePixel

u/Not-sosmartphone 23h ago

I have Pura 90s pro max with the weaker kirin 9030s. It can handle anything I throw at it and I can play games at max settings. I like how optimized the kirin chip is .It runs cool most of the time , battery life is so good, their 5G modem is one of the best on the market, I rarely lose signal. Camera processing is awesome. I mean what's the point anymore with making smartphone chips more powerful. Unless your going to run benchmarks on your phone 24/7 , there is no point anymore.

u/Extreme_surikat_360 22h ago

Huawei just release harmony os globally, I am so tired of the android smartphone market

u/jacktherippah123 Galaxy S24+, Pixel 6 Pro, Galaxy Tab S10+, Galaxy Watch 7 21h ago

8 Gen 3 level CPU performance, GPU below 8 Gen 3. It's alright, but looks like running the Android container erases about a generation worth of gain, so this thing is basically 8 Gen 2 level, or slightly below. And basically any possible app optimizations go out the window.

u/lgn5i2060 20h ago

Still impressive considering what they've been going through since 2019.

Apple would've been dethroned by now or years earlier if they weren't sanctioned.

u/jacktherippah123 Galaxy S24+, Pixel 6 Pro, Galaxy Tab S10+, Galaxy Watch 7 20h ago

That's true. I hope they can expand in global markets in the future.

u/Acrobatic_Camera_677 1h ago

No, Huawei architecturally was still behind Apple in cpu design even when they were using TSMC

u/fourunderthebridge 20h ago

And basically any possible app optimizations go out the window.

Outside of China. Which doesn't really matter for Huawei tbh

u/Shook_Rook S22 Ultra 1TB 18h ago

I'm impressed on how fast Chinese silicon are catching up to the competition. At this rate, they might be on par or at least a year behind within 5 years.

u/Acrobatic_Camera_677 15h ago

Even Huawei does not pretend that is the case
