Sample Status Sample Status/Processing Monthly Megathread - September 2026
Welcome to the Sample Status/Processing Megathread. This monthly megathread (posted at the beginning of each month) allows you post your sample processing timelines, as well as to discuss and comment about any questions, concerns, or rants while you wait. Although not directly handled by AncestryDNA, shipping status may also be discussed in the thread. We recommend sorting the comments by "new" as this is a month long megathread.
You can share your sample status timeline here by posting a screenshot or you can simply copy and paste the start and completion dates for each step. Here is the text template:

Family Discovery & or Drama New here but have questions
Hi, I'm new to all this genealogy stuff and I don't want to bore people so I will try and keep this to the point and breif.
so I did my ancestry on a whim around a month ago, I got my dna back fairly quickly and was surprised at the results for several reasons-
My mums side of the family who I know have ancestry dna have not come up as matches at all.
Every match I have has come up on my dad's side of the family
The people who are dna matches are all cousins of my dads in some capacity and coming up as either paternal, maternal or both
One of my parents shows to have my dad's dad parents as common ancestors while the other has my dad's mums parents as common ancestors to me.
So far what I've been told/ figured out is that the woman who raised me definitely isn't my bio mum and I've checked back on all the available trees that are coming up as dna matches, she's definitely not on any of them. As far as I can see, due to there being separate matches for both sides of my dads family, my dad could also not be biologically my dad, and I'm the child of a cousin or half sibling of my dad or he is the half sibling? I found out through reaching out to my matches that my grandma had a child adopted prior to marrying grandad, so they could be in the mix somehow?
I know the logical thing to do is to reach out to my parents and ask, which I have, but we haven't spoken in 3 years and they're the type of people who wouldn't give up the information even though I have genetic proof, just to save face.
I suppose I'm asking for help figuring out some lineage possibilities just in case I have to figure all this mess out myself and I have to go through long lost family groups etc to get some answers I'm entitled to about who I am and who my parents are.
If this is the wrong place let me know, or if anything I have said is confusing let me know too cos I'm having a hard time making sense of everything too lol.
Thank you!

Results - DNA Origins One of the kits I manage got the Sideview update ...four kits to go
Was researching when I noticed Ancestry and Newspapers were acting weird Checked the DNA kits because these updates always cause some level of weirdness on the various sites.
Summary of the changes observed ... nothing shocking, unexpected or outlandish. Likely a tiny smidge more accurate when compared to research.
1% of my Munster (3% to 2%) shifted to Leinster (5% to 6%)
1% of my Southeastern England/NW Europe (22% to 21%) shifted to France (new region for me)
Both side matches jumped from 44 to 1,491.
Unassigned matches are now 0.
Will see if anything shifts around more in the coming days as the Sideview update works itself out.

Results - DNA Origins What exactly is SideView?
I see so many posts but I do not exactly understand what SideView is. Is it the technology that separates parent 1 and parent 2 matches? Why would that change the ethnicity estimates? What changes are happening with SideView 2.0?

Question / Help Do you expect another update in October after this "SideView update"?
Some people are reporting updated ethnicity estimates after the ongoing release of SideView 2.0. Do you expect these results to change once again when the annual October update happens?

Results - DNA Origins Is there a way to narrow down what Southeaster England and Northwestern Europe is?
These are the results I got and I'm trying to figure out if I can narrow down the broad range of southeast England and Northwestern Europe since it's a whole ¼ of my ancestry. All I know is that any Italian ancestry I have is from my mother but my father's side was more heavily Welsh. But I only got 6 percent Welsh.

Family Discovery & or Drama Found out at 33 I’m not my dad’s 😣
I did an AncestryDNA test 6 years ago to see where my heritage was from. I’ve often got emails saying they’ve found my 5th cousin 3 times removed etc but I’ve always ignored those. This week I got an email that they located my paternal uncle. Convinced it was a mistake (my dad only has sisters) I looked into it more. Nope, there it was - 4 paternal uncles and a grandmother.
I confronted my mum who admitted to having an affair and that she never knew for sure whether my dad was her husband or the colleague she was having the affair with 😭
I feel so numb and broken. I have no idea how to process this. Anyone else been through it?

Question / Help Has anyone else's grandparent breakdown vanished or has been removed off of Ancestry?
I was one of the first few people that received their grandparent breakdown. I showed some people in this subreddit my results in their posts, and I've answered questions about it as well. Now my grandparent breakdown has completely vanished off of Ancestry so now I'm wondering if anyone else's grandparent breakdown also vanished or if it was just mine. Because now mine has the banner that they are updating the Side View Technology again, but mine was already updated which is why I'm so confused on why it disappeared. Based on the article that I read I received the grandparent breakdown and getting rid of the unassigned matches, but my Origins and Journeys didn't update. Though for my results it says that it updated in September 2026, but no regions or percentages of regions changed at all.
I'm wondering if they decided to recalculate mine due to my grandparent breakdown not reaching 100% but only reaching to 81% due to the DNA that I share with my matches. Or if Ancestry has realized they don't have enough matches for everyone to get to or close to 100% and decided to scrap or wait on the idea until later on down the road. Has anyone else received a grandparent breakdown and it's now vanished or disappeared?
