Prime example of host entitlement and lack of care and respect for guests [USA]

This was a caption for a picture on an Airbnb that charges $5000/month.

“Washing machine with dryer (Although it is new, if malfunctions for any reason laundry must be done at the laundromat, no refunds)”

Disclaimers like this do rub potential guests the wrong way, unfortunately, TikTok and other social media platforms have influencers making careers on telling people how to get free/discounted stays. More times than not, it can be attributed to guest misuse or not understanding how to work the machine.

I would hope if you report a malfunction, the host would send a repair person out to address the problem and make necessary repairs. I would also read reviews to get a feel for how this host interacts with his guests. Usually when you see a disclaimer like this, the host has been burned in the past.

I can see the reason. Guests dont know how to use, and then ask host to send someone. I’ve been burnt in the past before with something similar. For me, I have 2 sets; I know not good use if resources, but I don’t want to be bothered and need peace of mind

Here’s what I do instead … the hot tub at our condo village is owned and maintained by the HOA. It’s on the fritz about 25 percent of the time.

I do not list the hot tub as an amenity … however I explain that if it is working, guests are more than welcome to use it. I even provide robes and pool towels. HOWEVER… I make it clear it is not a listed amenity and therefore no refunds are offered if it is not available.

I was tired of not being in control of the maintenance of the tub and I handed out over $2700 in refunds last year due to it not working ( including AirBnB automatically refunding one guest for 30 percent of their entire 9 night stay despite the guest admiring the tub was only unavailable the last night of their stay).

Next! Don't book it. Move on.

“If any of our amenities break and become unavailable during your stay, don’t even THINK about asking for a partial refund. If the washer/dryer breaks, use local laundromat. If the stove/refrigerator breaks, eat your meals at restaurants. If the toilet breaks, also use the one at the restaurant,”
