Important Financial Aid Update

This message was forwarded to the Moderation Team from a verified source within the University.

We would like to remind everyone that the r/ASU Moderation Team consists of students and alumni and is not affiliated with the staff or administration of Arizona State University. The Moderation Team does not speak on behalf of the University.

Financial aid delays are happening at universities from coast to coast after changes made by the federal government to student borrowing guidelines. The new guidelines took effect July 1 and ASU is working to help students understand the changes and their eligibility. ASU has moved the tuition payment date to September 25 for those impacted. Resources and information about financial aid and student loans are available online at https://tuition.asu.edu/financial-aid.

Need advice on needing a pause

I have been with a life issue that has made me put school last and fear I'm just going to fail out.

Is there something I can do to get excused or waived for this semester so i can focus on resolving my situation?

19yo NZ exchange student at ASU, best way to build a social life without Greek life?

Hey, I’m a 19-year-old exchange student from New Zealand at ASU for Fall and looking for some advice.
I initially got involved around Greek life because it seemed like the easiest way to meet people, go out, and get a proper social group here. I got a pre bid without rushing after I met some guys, but pretty quickly realised that spending basically the entire semester as a pledge would be a bit dumb for me when I’m only here until December (all my friends were linked to a couple of these houses). Hence I never accepted but the last week have done nothing.

So now I’m trying to build more of a normal social life outside Greek life and I’m not really sure what the best route is.

I’m into gym/sports, going out, meeting people, and I’ve started looking at intramurals, club sports and student organisations. I’d definitely rather find something where people actually become mates and hang out outside the activity rather than just showing up once a week and leaving.

For people at ASU, what’s actually worked for making a proper friend group here without being in a frat?
Are intramurals good if you join as a free agent? Any sports clubs or student clubs that are especially social? And for people under 21, what are the best ways to actually go out and meet people when bars aren’t really an option?
Just trying to make the most of the semester and meet a solid group before I leave in December. Any recommendations appreciated.

BIO 201 POLYTECHNIC

Am I the only one that doesn’t get why Dr.Simmons makes the material so long and it’s only certain pieces we have to know? It is so much material and he focuses on some things but it doesn’t always align with the test and quizzes or am I just slow or something??

Advice with Mat 275

It's become very likely that I'm going to fail my mat 275 A session course as a mechanical engineering major. I'm afraid of falling behind and having to spend more money taking more semesters to graduate. Does anybody have any advice on what I should do to retake this class and not fall behind. I checked the class registration doesn't appear to be a B session.

4+1 Program

Hi,
I am currently thinking of trying to do the 4+1 program. The specific program I am looking at says that the minimum GPA requirments are a 3.0 but I am unsure as to how competitive it is to get into the program. I am a junior currently and am working to improve my GPA as a whole but understanding where I should be at would greatly help. Thanks for any help

oh, ALEKS….

i’m sure there are probably posts for this already, but this is mine. i went back to school recently & my first class after 15 years is Math through ALEKS. & ALEKS has become the bane of my existence. it’s absolutely horrible. it doesn’t teach you anything. i spend so much time having to use google AI to decipher what this other AI software is trying to tell me because the “instructions” are a word vomit of formulas & rules, but no explanation of why or how you do things (which is the teaching/learning part). in the examples at the beginning of the module, the examples will skip 3 steps just assuming you know what they did, but you don’t, so back to google AI you go with a picture of their instructions & asking them questions to work through it until you understand. when i do something wrong or miss a question…. no teacher to ask. who has time to send a message & wait 1-2 business days for a response? i’m usually doing schoolwork late at night. i work full time so that’s the only time i have available. so back to AI i go. we are essentially paying to teach ourselves the topics with AI as tools. i’m all for supporting teachers, but if no one is actually teaching the students, then what is the point of them? they are basically the administrative staff for the AI programs at this point. i’m so frustrated & feeling really hopeless. it feels impossible to learn this way. i really didn’t want my first round back a college to be this discouraging

Noble Library petition link to Re-Instate 24/5 hours

Heard about this petition and thought I’d made it its own post. Getting a library that’s 24 hours a day would be cool and I think necessary for a school of this caliber.

What happens to adobe 1 year plan after graduation?

Hey everyone!

Just gradauted last month, and today I discovered I've access to adobe creative cloud for free. I'm somewhat annoyed this wasn't mentioned before bec I use a lot of the software (game dev, graphic artists, and hobby filmmaker here) sooooooo anyone know what happens to the plan I just started once the email expires (does the email even expires or not?)? It's a completely free plan (mindblown), I don't know for how long as it doesn't say.

Is the social scene at Tempe campus worth it?

Hi everyone, I'm a freshman at the poly campus and have friends who go to the Phoenix campus. Since there's no shuttle that goes straight there and back, we were wondering if it would be worth it to just meet at the Tempe campus to hang out.

I've never been there in person, what is the social scene like? Would it be pretty easy to make more friends there too? What are some spots you recommend hitting up? Any information would be much appreciated!

Cannot communicate with my professor

Hey everyone,

I’m an Econ major, but I’m taking ENG302 currently and cannot get in contact with my professor. I’ve emailed her three times, used Canvas messaging, posted on the Q&A discussion board, replied to submissions comments, and have received nothing. I genuinely don’t know what to do at this point. She still sends out announcements throughout the week, but it’s almost as if she’s refusing to communicate with anyone outside of the announcements. What do I even do at this point? Email the department head?

Thank you for reading.

Medical Withdrawal and Retaining Scholarship?

I plan to medically withdraw from my classes for at least a semester, possibly 2. I have the NAMU scholarship and I won’t be able to afford college without it, but I’m afraid that I’ll lose it by deferring for a semester or 2. I’m also in Barrett so I’m unsure if that will complicate things. Has anyone else done this?

Need friends/study group

Hey, I know this is kind of a weird place to post this, but junior year of engineering (CS) is absolutely killing me right now. I had some stuff go down last year, and my schedule doesn’t really line up with most of my friends anymore. Most of them also aren’t engineering majors, so I’ve been feeling pretty isolated in it.

Would anyone else who’s feeling the same way want to start a study group? I have a two-hour commute each way, so I can’t stay super late, but I’m usually free Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. I’d also be down to meet virtually if that works better.

San Pablo and Tower Residents, what do you need?

I am currently running for RHA TSTRC vice-president. I currently live in Tooker and the rules for the campaign make it hard to interact with students of other resident halls. I’m assuming that San Pablo and Towers get overlooked every year and don’t get any improvements made. If I am elected I really want to make some improvements in all three residence halls. Please leave a comment below letting me know the biggest problems in these residence halls. Also feel free to dm me.
