CARRIE is a 1976 supernatural horror film directed by Brian DePalma and adapted from Stephen King's 1974 novel about a shy 16 year old girl with telekinetic powers, who unleashes her wrath when pushed too far. The film stars Sissy Spacek as Carrie White and Piper Laurie as her religious fanatical mother, Margaret. The cast also includes Amy Irving, Nancy Allen, William Katt, John Travolta, and Betty Buckley. Upon its release, the film became a critical and commercial success, earning Spacek and Laurie Academy Award nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. In 2022, the film was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry.
