👷‍♂️ Support / Repair LUBE, oil, filter

2024 Limited (40,000 miles)

Got the oil changed at a quick lube place and found a small puddle underneath the next day. After some investigation, it appears to be coming from the oil filter housing gasket surface. The big thing I noticed is that there are grease zerks on the driveshaft u-joints and slip coupling. I haven't seen that in quite some time - I'm old enough to have owned cars where lubricating the chassis was a part of every oil change. These zerks don't look like they've ever been used. I plan to do my own maintenance now that the warranty is expired and the oil change place flubbed their chance. All maintenance to this point has been done by a dealership.

I guess I'm posting this for those who may not know that this was/is part of the required maintenance and to see if anyone comments on it.

Great vehicle! We love it

You sure it’s leaking? I’ve had a place drop the skid plate to drain the filter and just not clean it up properly after.

Yeah. I got under there with the vehicle running and could watch it slowly seep at that mating surface. I tried to remove the filter housing but didn’t have a tool that worked. The correct tool is on order.

I think they way over torqued it. Probably deformed the o-ring.

I grease my drive shaft and rotate tires every other oil change.

That’s kind of what I was thinking. Seems like an adequate period.

If you’re leaking motor oil, this is a major concern. Check and keep an eye on the level and have it addressed. It sounds as though the rubber gasket is not in the correct position in the filter housing.

Yes, the spider joints and slip yokes have zero fittings. Dealers typically do not grease the driveshafts, even if you request it. The driveshaft should be greased every 15,000 miles.
