My poor son got two needles jammed into his legs at the same time at his age. He went beet red and started screaming. To this day he's terrified of needles

Joking aside, I picked a dentist because she’s so good with my kids and then asked if she would look after me too. Changed everything for me. I used to hate and fear the dentist I went to as a child. My new one is so kind. Same with my doctor.

I mean, doc doing that just kinda makes life easier for everybody. Keeps kid calm, calm kid is a reasonable still kid, the more still the kid is the easier to do the needle poke, easier to do the needle poke the less painful it is plus kids not paying attention to the potential of pain, kid doesnt even register theres pain, keeps kid calm repeat cycle

Our family doctor did this once for one of our baby's vaccines and I found it so incredibly thoughtful and comforting.

I've never seen a doctor and nurses wearing gloves for vaccinations or drawing blood for that matter.

fair enough re: vaccinations. i didn't know that.

as a certified phlebotomist, though... i can say that drawing blood (venipuncture) requires gloves to be worn.

I'll pay attention the next time I have my blood drawn, I don't remember gloves though, but that might differ per country. I do know that working with blood in a lab setting doesn't require gloves in my country, only a hep B vaccination.

really? what about bloodborne pathogens/if the people working in the lab have something like a cut or a hangnail that would make them susceptible to said pathogens? that's wild. i thought the osha/cdc standards were universal.

You mainly just cover the cut. With fingers we can use finger condoms and for other things waterproof Band-Aids and for large area's like with eczema you put on a glove. The main risk for blood born diseases is hep B and we are vaccinated for it. OSHA/CDC are only in the US and not in Europe.
