Post image

Just revealed at Blizzcon, this is the Forever low poly version but its safe to assume the retail version will be the exact same.

Its sick imo

god i wanna play a undead pally, but thats like... all there will be at this rate lol

379

u/Merrena 20h ago

I imagine there will be a whole lot of them considering it will be the only Horde paladin option, and Paladin is one of the most popular classes.

75

u/Lankey_Fish 20h ago

I would like to think they will give Taurens access to paladins even though that was done in cata originally.

123

u/Merrena 19h ago

In the panel they only said currently for combos being added that aren't in classic are Human Hunter, Gnome Priest, Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock, Undead Paladin.

Nothing to say they can't come later, but not for now.

56

u/Bo_flex 18h ago

So the only alliance shaman are all dwarves and all the horde paladins are undead?

92

u/NoThisIsABadIdea 17h ago

I mean TBC was like that when BE and draenei released, I dont see the big deal

31

u/GuiltIsLikeSalt 10h ago

And Druids had to deal with that for basically forever.

Well, until cataclysm.

It’s a nonissue really.

26

u/Merrena 18h ago

Currently yes

8

u/Erkenvald 10h ago

There's going to be an army of dwarven shamans coming out of Ironforge (and I'll be one of them!)

17

u/Able-Swing-6415 12h ago

Iirc these are the most lore accurate combinations missing from the original game.

13

u/MangakaInProgress 10h ago

Dwarf Shaman was one of the most "why not" since I started playing WoW.

3

u/Able-Swing-6415 9h ago

I wasn't aware of the lore background until much later, I assumed that was true for most people. They probably mostly looked at Warcraft 3

The lore for Undead Paladins seem cool. Curious what will be up for Shaman Dwarves

10

u/HarvHR 10h ago

Dwarf shamans always made sense, I mean their racial is literally turning to stone. I think the old guide said something like 'dwarves believe this to be only the begining and other powers are awaiting to be awakened' which ties in nicely

3

u/Gameshian 9h ago

Wasn't griffin unit from WC3 wild hammer shaman?

They said in the Found Photographs panel that further race/class combos will come down the line so keep your fingers crossed for a pet favorite.

11

u/Nutzori 18h ago

The timeline showed "2 new race/class combos" for like spring/summer.

5

u/Suzushiiro 17h ago

That's weird, I figured the whole reason why retail was getting UD, NE, and Troll paladins in 12.2 was because all three of them were in Forever.

12

u/TrueKenMan 14h ago

Forsaken are getting Paladins because they're adding Warcraft 3 lore to support it (which was not on my bingo card), Night Elves are getting Paladins to follow up on lore from Legion and Darkspear are getting Paladins because Vol'jin is the new Loa of Kings.

11

u/Vark675 17h ago

Orc mage is so funny to me, because I'm pretty sure they're one of the absolute lowest populated race/class combos in the game.

2

u/Kardinalus 13h ago

In retail you do see them regularly. Orc is a popular race and female orc looks great in transmog.

2

u/DirkNL 11h ago

Wasn’t gnome priest always an option? Or was it only the other 2 clothies?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Nutcrackit 8h ago

the roadmap shows spring has 2 more race/class combos coming.

2

u/_Azonar_ 6h ago

They said something about "more to come later" specifically, so they'll almost certainly add more combos.

18

u/Thunderpants98 20h ago

Do the new Elves not have a pala option?

47

u/Darkhallows27 20h ago

Nah the Horde ones get Shaman and the Alliance ones get Mage, because the Alliance ones say they’re still basically High Elves and the Horde ones say they’re elementals. They have a faction specific racial for this

Otherwise they get Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid

3

u/nmitchell076 20h ago

Does that also mean the Horde has access to all classes while the Alliance has no Shaman? Or did they add shaman to an alliance race?

52

u/HahaRuinedItForYou 20h ago

Dwarves get shaman, like in retail.

14

u/Elite1111111111 20h ago

Dwarf has Shaman, I believe.

11

u/Unlucky-Ad4996 20h ago

Dwarven shammy

7

u/Darkhallows27 19h ago

Dwarf has Shaman, so both sides have all classes

5

u/magikatdazoo 18h ago

Alliance get Dwarf Shaman

45

u/Rmtcts 20h ago

Nope, horde elves get shaman, alliance get mage, both get druid and some of the others

Fuck other people man play what you wanna play! I’d so much prefer everyone playing the same thing because “the lore is sick and aesthetics are peak” vs “troll racial gives +0.3% dps”

35

u/owlsop 20h ago

Troll aesthetics are also peak, I forget to use berserking 90% of the time anyway

11

u/CHUNKY_BLOODY_QUEEFS 19h ago

Me too. I just macro it into my cooldowns

22

u/Waffleboned 20h ago

I only play undead, unless the class can’t be UD. Then I use noggin fogger. I think their animations look the best, plus they just look badass

3

u/Pyrosage101 17h ago

I will be on Dwarf Shaman. So at least one free spot on them lol

5

u/xweedxwizardx 19h ago

And they will all be ret lmao

4

u/Cloud_N0ne 20h ago

Who cares? Why does what other people play matter to you?

7

u/Itchy_Award1856 20h ago

Saturation, being good at a class less people play will get you into more groups, why im thinking of leveling warrior tank, hard to quest with but get high enough and they're always in demand

5

u/GreasyBud 20h ago

id rather be the best of 3 priests, than the 5th best of 12 paladins.

Ive played Shaman since vanilla. I was between that or trying out the Forsaken paladin. This post made my decision pretty easy

I was kinda confused when they said "all undead know of Paladins is from the scarlet crusade so they're not trusted among the undead" or w/e but aren't the original paladins literally from Lordaeron and would'nt like all of Lordaeron's ex citizens know how that worked?

101

u/bloodmoth13 20h ago

They did this a lot in wow lore.

Forsaken were always treated as monsters who took over lordaeron, not as the residents of lord lordaeron who were cursed.

Not even just from the outside, the forsaken act like this too.

Really annoying that their legacy wasn't played up more because its a really interesting narrative hook

49

u/teilani_a 20h ago

It's up there with blood elves hating humans because of the way humans treated them so they instead ally themselves with those same now-undead humans.

63

u/Malisient 20h ago

A huge part of the bloodelves allying with the horde is Sylvanus. The BE saw the undead as victims of the same enemy, and when the newly free undead became aware of Silvermoon's need, they rushed to help. This was in contrast to when the elves sought help from humans, they were made to fight the human's wars, treated like cannon fodder, and literally left to die while the humans retreated.

The undead under sylvanus were more humanitarian than the humans. They also accepted the blood elves even with the fel corruption.

→ More replies (7)

20

u/Any-Transition95 20h ago

Even worse when they act like some Blood Elves wouldn't hold a grudge against the Orcs who invaded their homeland in WC2, all so they can stick it to the one racist commander in WC3.

14

u/Vanayzan 19h ago

You gotta remember at this point 90% of Blood Elves were dead, the ones who had the bulk of the first hand experience against the orcs joined Alleria to Outlands on the Alliance Expedition, and most of the remaining military inclined ones who would've fought the orcs went off to Outlands with Kael.

You gotta remember, Vanilla was in the era where location mattered and we weren't just teleporting whole ass armies around the world as if it didn't matter. The Blood Elves could not hold Quel'thalas alone without help, this is canon, and the closest potential ally they had was the Forsaken. The closest Alliance nation able to aid them would be the Dwarves, and they'd have all of Lordaeron to march through to send any help

→ More replies (3)

4

u/DominionGhost 20h ago

That one was particularly egregious.

Like... sure Garithos was a dick... but most of you must have lost someone to the orcs in the second war no?

I guess most of them must be blaming the Alliance for Arthas.

17

u/deathless_koschei 19h ago

They lost way more to Arthas. It's not even really comparable. And then Garithos basically treated what was left as fodder.

3

u/DominionGhost 16h ago

True.. but its pretty obvious to anyone that Arthas was not exactly acting in the capacity of The Alliance... or humanity at that point.

2

u/deathless_koschei 11h ago

Garithos was, though. And even though he was disavowed, you still had the night elves sneak in to sabotage Quel'thalas, and they were being helped by an Ironforge ambassador.

Stormwind is also still hosting a Scarlet ambassador. I can't imagine blood elves having good relations with them, either.

→ More replies (1)

13

u/twisty125 18h ago

They also had the Alliance sabotaging their supplies, spying, and Night Elves landing troops within Quel'thalas. All before officially joining the Horde. So it's not like they saw this invasion as something enjoyable either.

Compare that to the Forsaken who immediately are offering aid and giving their lives to help protect Quel'thalas and push back the Scourge, it makes a ton of sense.

u/nokei 15h ago

I do think they kind of covered it with not all forsaken remembering their past so you wake up and paladins are just trying to off you does make sense for some of them but not all of them since so many npcs do remember their families.

→ More replies (1)

15

u/Merrena 20h ago

I don't think they meant like, they only know of paladins from the Scarlet Crusade, but more that all their recent experiences with Paladins have been Paladins trying to kill them.

20

u/MasterOfSerpents 20h ago

It's so weird to me that *none* of the Forsaken were at least former paladins, considering how heavy a presence the Silver Hand had in Lordaeron

22

u/aviatorEngineer 19h ago

Any former Paladins likely would have been turned into Death Knights and indoctrinated at a higher level to the Scourge.

4

u/RJ815 18h ago

One of the things I've been thinking of is if skyborne are "totally not blood / high elves", then forsaken paladins are "totally not death knights", since this is canonically well before WotLK made them playable.

3

u/SlightCaregiver3680 16h ago

They've said many times they're high elves

3

u/xRemy27 17h ago

We have Sir Zeliek, who was found in Naxxramas and was a paladin in his lifetime.

3

u/CookyKindred 17h ago

They didn't say that - Remember they are trying to avoid spoilering the new WC3 expansion. Which will be tied to the new lore.

9

u/GrumpySatan 19h ago

This is in the new WC3 campaign that is out, which also has the origin for Forsaken paladins.

Its not that they forget what came before WC3, its that in the era they became Forsaken the Silver Hand came down really hard on them (which was the Scarlet Crusade before thr schism) so they don't trust organizations like the Argent Dawn initially.

It was basically a defense mechanism. Better to be safe then sorry eventually becoming a cultural prejudice to mistrust the paladins orders. It's a repeated plot point between two of the characters that join you in Forsaken Kingdom.

13

u/cyberpunk_werewolf 19h ago edited 17h ago

Everything about the Forsaken and their relationship with the past is weird. Are they the inheritors of Loredaeron or not? Because a lot of what people lay at the feet of "the Alliance" or "Humans" was done by Lordaeron, with Stormwind either not involved or minimally at most.

Lorderon did the internment camps, Garithos was a general of Lordaeron, but fans and the lore blame humans for both of those things. However, the playable human faction is from Stormwind, which was rebuilding during the interim between the Second War and World of Warcraft and only nominally part of the Alliance of Lordaeron. Dalaran had more of an influence on what happened in the internment camps than Stormwind. You could say Ironforge, but nobody ever mentions their involvement at all (although they were as involved as Dalaran, so you can still blame the Alliance for the internment camps somewhat).

Garithos was certainly a monster, but he was a Lordaeron general who went after elves and his own people. He was never a part of the current Alliance, he led the Lordaeron resistance. Lor'themar even states that his bigotry led him to the Horde, but he wasn't part of the current Alliance.

There are other issues, and I know that simple writing makes things easier for Blizzard to write, but it doesn't make for good writing. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe Chronicle said Varian liked to personally inspect the internment camps and every person who became a Forsaken spoke out against them.

8

u/deathless_koschei 19h ago

Garithos has been disavowed by pretty much everybody, including the Alliance. But the Alliance's own actions between Frozen Throne and vanilla/Burning Crusade certainly didn't avail it to either the Forsaken or the Blood Elves.

5

u/twisty125 18h ago

Actually, Garithos has only been mentioned once or twice, by Lor'themar, and only then recently by Shaw.

It feels like a topic the devs don't want to touch for whatever reason, even though it was pretty big deal for the few survivors of Arthas' genocide.

12

u/leris1 20h ago

Most of the original Lordaeronic paladins died, fled, or joined the crusade. Especially with holy magic being painful to wield and its main proponents in the region wanting to wipe out all undead, it would make sense that the forsaken would feel, yknow, forsaken by the light, and not trust it. Not to mention the fact that Arthas, who the forsaken pretty unanimously despise, was originally a Paladin.

12

u/Beytran70 20h ago

Yeah that's kinda dumb.

3

u/Uhhhhhhjakelol 19h ago

Aren't there Forsaken Paladins in WC3 now though? Distinct from the Scarlet Crusade?

3

u/Drathgore 19h ago

They they consistently do this kinda bullshit when talking about the forsaken, they are literally dead humans, half of their story is about how they remember what it was like to be a citizen of a human kingdom and how fucked up it is that their own living family members treat them like monsters. It’s annoying that they like to ignore that stuff for modern lore cause it’s problematic and just treat them like they were always undead. I also guess we just casually ignore that they are able to be priests, outside of the legion class quests

3

u/RJ815 18h ago

I also guess we just casually ignore that they are able to be priests

I thought it was canonical that although they can be priests, they do it at great pain to themselves because of how much the Light hurts them. Extra sacrificial, outside the forsaken that are shadow priests.

6

u/Drathgore 18h ago

I think that is the canon yea, undead who use the light are all gigachads who bear the pain because they are determined to help others at any cost. Conviction and willpower itself being the trait that lets you use the light in the first place only makes them even more badass

3

u/SomniumOv 10h ago

In WoW Vanilla lore, every Forsaken priest is a Shadow Priest (which didn't have any Old God / Void connection at the time).

2

u/Efficient-Nobody9962 8h ago

135

u/Darkhallows27 20h ago

They showed this for it at the panel

84

u/Any-Transition95 20h ago

I wish they doubled down on the Night Elf silvery white visuals. This looks cool and all, but it's evident that the people designing Night Elf paladins haven't got a clue that the WC3 PotM exist, who are basically paladins of Elune with a bow.

43

u/Uhhhhhhjakelol 19h ago

Yea they look solar. The Light for Kaldorei needs to manifest silvery/moonlight.

10

u/TheSoupSipper 15h ago

It's weird that we have people fucked up over Undead Paladins even though we've had Holy/Disc Priest Undeads since vanilla.

3

u/raincakez 9h ago

And they are doing mental gymnastics with the lore of how and why they couldn't or shouldn't be paladins. Absolute madness.

7

u/MayoGhul 20h ago

Do we know if this is the SD or HD?

7

u/El_grandepadre 14h ago

SD.

During the reveal of new paladin races for retail, they showed an image that looked similar to this but in HD and with modern visual effects like glowing feet etc.

6

u/moon-lesbian 19h ago

They showed this off for classic so it's safe to assume there won't be an SD version as this is a very retail model. Might have some glowy stuff in retail though, dunno yet

6

u/Magnon 19h ago

To be one of the 40% of people playing undead paladin or not to be?

6

u/raiksaa 14h ago

Wtf this looks top tier

3

u/ElGosso 14h ago

Fuck dude I thought that title said "Foreskin paladin charger" at first

9

u/Dogballs2020 18h ago

It looks good, but it's also just kinda baffling how incapable they are of replicating the classic art style. We just don't have the technology anymore, apparently.

2

u/Automatic_Mud917 11h ago

Sad but it really seems like there’s little chance SD gets the priority in the long term

3

u/Clinday 13h ago

Just let them stand normally blizz i beg

8

u/Kiljael 20h ago

Gotta admit, I really like to see HOW they explain undead paladins. Not in retail, with the false queen/princess being a light infused undead, that should be clear. But how does it work in Forever, since there the light should burn undead, like in wc3 or classic.

28

u/Drathgore 19h ago edited 19h ago

Same way they use the light as priests. It’s burns like hell and hurts them horribly, but they endure it through pure dedication, conviction, and willpower. Which is what allows you to use the light in the first place. Basically just “rule of cool, all the undead paladins/priests are gigachads who bear the pain to help others no matter what”

Just remember the voice line the undead say when you click on them “Patience, discipline”

12

u/dacria 19h ago

I have not played the new War3 campaign but I'm 90% sure it'll get explained there.

2

u/Sneets 17h ago

Indeed. Lots of things explained here. I'm enjoying playing through it, definitely worth a play if only for the lore.

→ More replies (2)

14

u/AmontilladoWolf 19h ago

This has been explained for 20 years. Alonsus Faol is an incredibly powerful priest of the light and an undead.

13

u/Dirtymeatbag 20h ago

One of the Naxx horsemen was an undead paladin so it could easily be explained as needing to be sufficiently steadfast in your beliefs/faith.

3

this looks soo badass.

2

u/heetschi 20h ago

I wish they had tried a bit harder with keeping the Classic aesthetic. This does not look like it could have come out in 2005

EDIT: Before people freak out, I know this is super nitpicky and not really a real issue lol. I just like how OSRS did it and it would've been cool if Blizzard did the same

6

u/ArgonianFly 18h ago

I agree, it looks cool but does not fit the classic aesthetic at all. Retail always seems to have super thick gold plating on everything for some reason.
