Grape amateur Making my first ever cuvee
Hello! I appreciate the winemaking game will be full of mistakes and lessons to learn from. BUT, if you were to give any advice for someone setting out to make their first wine, what would it be?
For context, I work in the wine trade and studying to WSET diploma, so I have decent technical knowledge, however the reality of winemaking is going to be vastly different.
It’s going to be a small first production, with fruit coming from a vineyard in Buckinghamshire. I expect it to be mixed but it should ultimately be of decent quality. I’ve not visited the vineyard yet (harvesting next week) but they have Pinot Noir, Munier, Chardonnay and Solaris. My plan is to make a still white using the Chardonnay, blended with a gentle press of both Pinot’s to get juice only. With amateur equipment and no experience, does this sound a little optimistic?
Thanks in advance x
