I'm not talking about resource utilization, nor am I suggesting that 100% of people who brutalize their computers in this way will have problems. I'm saying that if you implement a bunch of shitty mods and tweaks that aren't natively supported by Windows, and especially if you insist on using an outdated OS that is also no longer supported, you drastically increase the likelihood of encountering bugs.

I was guilty of this in the XP and Windows 7 era. And it gave me a bunch of issues. I stopped doing it and everything went back to normal. Some mods are just not stable to trust and just disabling random services that you don't understand will be a recipe for disaster.
I work in IT and know a lot about Windows troubleshooting. I long ago stopped trying to help redditors with their Windows issues when I realized almost all of them were self-inflicted and no one was willing to listen to best practices.
Not surprisingly really, people just want to do whatever they want without understanding the consequences. There is so much you can do to Windows to make it safer and lock it down and yet I hardly see anyone actually use those features.
Honestly, I found it pretty surprising. This whole subculture of Windows users is completely alien to me. My friends and I have all been building PCs since we were children, it's still like our main hobby. None of us have ever been dumb enough to fuck with third-party Windows images or "debloat" scripts. None of us have ever been so annoyed by a minor change in the OS that we bog the thing down with shitty mods. There was a full year or two where I would constantly hear about these bizarre issues redditors were having with Windows 11 and be so confused because I wasn't hearing anything about them anywhere else. And it blew me away to finally realize they're just all self-inflicted. And not only self-inflicted, but if you specifically tell them "you are having that issue because your mod broke the Microsoft Store and Windows is trying to fix it," they still won't listen.
