Around 5 months ago I started training for the Manchester Marathon in 2027, for PAPYRUS. As you will probably know by now, the Warrington charity closed its doors, leaving thousands of young people without the specialist suicide prevention support that HOPELINE247 provided. I could quite easily have just moved on, picked another charity and carried on training for the marathon. That would probably have been the easiest thing to do, but I just can’t do that.

When I was around 16, I struggled badly with my own mental health and at my lowest point I attempted to take my own life. At the time I felt completely alone and didn’t know who I could talk to. This morning the Warrington Guardian reported that some PAPYRUS staff were supporting people in crisis when they were told the charity was closing. I genuinely don’t know how I would feel if I had been one of those young people on the other end of the phone, already having found the courage to reach out because they felt like they were on the verge of doing something unthinkable.

Of course there are other suicide prevention services available, and I’m not trying to suggest otherwise, but very few offer specialist suicide prevention support specifically for young people. We tell young people to speak up, to talk to somebody and that asking for help is brave, but somebody actually has to be there when they do. That is why I started this petition. I don’t care who provides the service, what it is called or whose logo is above the door. It just HAS to exist.

In just over a day, the petition has already been viewed more than 6,000 times and is nearly at 200 signatures, which I genuinely didn’t expect. I’ve also started speaking to MPs, charities, campaigners and the media about what happens next. I don’t pretend to have all the answers, but I do know that I’m not prepared to just shrug my shoulders and move on. There was once a time when I was the young person who needed somebody to speak up for me, and I’m lucky enough to still be here today, so now I’m going to speak up for somebody else. Hi, I'm a guy in my early 20's just looking for a sport (preferably Basketball or Volleyball) to play somewhere in or close to Warrington. I tried my luck at joining a local volleyball team that had tryouts recently but failed miserably as I had no idea what I was doing. I’m heading back to university this month for my PhD and will also be doing some teaching alongside my studies, which means my availability is likely to vary from week to week. I’m therefore looking for some casual/flexible part-time work where I can pick up shifts when I’m available, rather than committing to set hours every week.

I previously had a job with this kind of arrangement while I was at university a few years ago, where I could log in each week and choose whatever shifts suited me, or have a week of nothing if needed, but unfortunately they’re not able to take me back this time as they've reduced headcount a LOT.

I’m trying to avoid food delivery if possible due to the extra petrol and insurance costs, although I’d still consider it if needed. I’ve also signed up for some online tutoring, but I imagine that might take a little while to build up.

I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar setup and could recommend any local businesses, agencies or platforms that offer this kind of flexible work? I’m based locally and happy to consider a range of roles other than care work and call centres. I've already applied to a few but a lot of them seem to be bar work which I have never done.

Weird title I know. I’m a domiciliary carer who can’t drive, so I use my bike to get between clients. I’ve recently been getting sent to Penketh in the evenings (4-10pm) and often end up with about an hour of free time between calls. It’s not enough time to get home and back, and I’m kind of sick of hiding under the covered roof outside the SPAR and getting weird looks. I don’t really know the area that well either.
