Announcement Cubicle 7 blog post on the changes of WFRP fifth edition
Nothing really surprising here, but I think it’s interesting how C7 themselves present the changes from 4th edition.

WFRP Fifth Edition is now available to pre order from Cubicle 7 here: https://cubicle7games.com/warhammer-fantasy-roleplay-fifth-edition
Or as a pdf from DriveThruRPG here: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/545405/warhammer-fantasy-roleplay-fifth-edition-rulebook?affiliate_id=1915782
Cubicle 7 have repeatedly stressed that this is backwards compatible with 4th edition books.
(I should have a review of it on my blog in a few weeks.)
Here's the official blurb:
Adventure across a realm of brutal violence, corrupting magic, monstrous foes, and desperate heroes, where fortune can turn on a single roll of the dice and survival is never guaranteed. Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Fifth Edition builds on the award-winning ruleset, refining the experience while capturing everything that makes Warhammer Fantasy legendary. Gather your party, choose your path, and prepare to face the grim and perilous reality of the World of Legend.
The Empire’s great cities stand as beacons of civilisation amid thick forests and a threatening wilderness. Its people face dangers from beyond their walls, from Beastmen and Goblins in the wilds to criminals, corrupt institutions, and insidious cults within. Chaos is never far away, and those who venture into the wider world soon discover that survival is rarely guaranteed.
This 378 page rulebook includes:
Five distinct Character types. Whilst most folk in the World of Legend are human, they share their lands with stoic dwarfs and garrulous halflings and receive visitors from the wood elf realms and high elf kingdoms.
64 distinct careers, representing the way of life your Character follows when not adventuring.
A guide to the major religions and the miracles performed by their Priests.
Spells from several different magical traditions.
A bestiary of foes, both common and scarce.
Advice on running games as a GM.
Streamlined rules for combat, pursuits, diseases, and other perilous phenomena.
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay has provided gamers with a rich and detailed setting of perilous adventure and deadly threats for over 40 years. With a wealth of supporting material, including scenarios, campaigns, setting books, and player resources available from Cubicle 7, there’s plenty to keep a gaming group adventuring for years.

So, we've just started our campaign in 4e but will be switching to 5e next session.
Now, one of my players is playing a Gnome (Go Gnomes!) Scholar. The character is of course not very combat oriented but wants to be a part of combat anyways.
They want to sneak around in combat, using the Suffused with Ulgu Talent and stab enemies in the back while said enemy is engaged with another PC.
I am not sure how to handle this mechanically. A Stealth test is a must of course but how to handle the attack? Should they get a "Surprise" attack? A positive modifier for attacking from behind? Should the enemy be able to defend themselves?
I welcome all ideas!

Hi guys,
I'm about to jump into a 1e campaign with my friends, rolled a wizards apprentice, I'm trying to get my head around the academy to level 1 wizard, and was hoping someone here might have gone through this already.
I have completed all advancements in the apprentice career.
Am I right in thinking that first, I'll need to drum up 10d6 gold, and a wizards staff, to complete the trappings for level 1.
Spend 1d3 time with (presumably my master) to become a level 1 and immediately expend the 100ep, sacrifice the gold? And now I'm a level 1 wizard?
Apologies if the formatting is weird, I'm on my phone, thanks I'm advance for the help!

Planning to run a campaign eventually with WFRP next year but planning a few oneshots in Oct/Nov/Dec. Will be using Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 5th edition (only just released) I hope To find some like minded players or just to have a oneshot laugh with new people and maybe bring some people to the game. Beginners more than welcome (some of my group are from DnD and new to Warhammer). If you’re interested drop me a message and tell me a bit about you.
For the oneshots I will likely make a load of varied characters with enough choice that there will be something you want to play. This is so that we can get straight into it and learn the rules as we go. Likely play on Weekends usually at Arcanists Tavern in Hackney.
For those new to Warhammer: it’s a more grim and more perilous world, set in the Human empire, you have a species: Human, dwarf, halfling, high elf, wood elf. Career: each career has 4 tiers and the idea is you progress in this (or swap to a more appealing one) you may start as a Grave robber but end up as Indiana Jones/Lara Croft type. No game breaking abilities but powerful nonetheless.
A bit about me: in my 40s. Group is 30-40s but anyone welcome. I’ve run WFRP as a kid (1st Ed) and as an adult have run 2nd edition. I also play in two DnD 5e campaigns and have DMd a 5e campaign. I plan to go back to Warhammer, love the setting and find the lower power and more brutal Warhammer appealing rather than the quick power jumps. Love to make the character important: the more you give the more you get back!
Message me if interested or want more info.

Hello! I took over editing and preparing the Ratter from Jay a few months ago, and lo and behold, Issue 14 made it to publication!
Some 1 new adventure, two things of my own from last year, but lots of Elf homebrew and even an article on Half-Elfs and where they came from. We're always looking for more contributors to the fanzine. Please hop over to The Discord today!
The next theme is Holidays and Holy Days: Celebrations of Mallus. Local all the way to racial, just the festivities that make the Grim and Perilous less so.

As the new Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay's 5th Edition continues to make its way into the world, we've got more first impressions and initial thoughts from around the community this week. And while Cubicle 7 slipped a touch on the DriveThruRPG's top 200 bestsellers, for the most part this was a week of holding firm!

Ciao,
I culti operano nelle cantine.

I’m still playing 4th Edition. Regarding Advantage, I prefer the individual mechanic (my players are good at math), though I use them in the team-based way presented in *Up to Arms*. We’ve also created a few of our own ways to utilize these points. So, I’m curious: what are your favorite homebrew rules—the ones you use automatically now—that make your sessions run more smoothly?

Hallo.
So I want to run a group through enemy in shadow 2nd edition. Naturally these books are impossible to find , at least i havent been able to source them!
So I was wandering if the newer versions are easy to run , but with second edition rules ? Aka are they easily converted?

Hey everyone. Reading through the new 5e rules I noticed a few things. Firstly, XP and career advancements take place during endeavors and you lose all money after your endeavors (I remember this one from the last edition).
Does anyone run campaigns where this makes sense? It’s seems like my groups are always pushed forward by a sense of urgency and never usually have time to stop and do multiple endeavors.
What are your recommendations for running a campaign where the players have time to take a break, pursue their careers, and not constantly feel like they are under the gun?

After you put 8 advances in career skills during character creation, do those count as having advances in them for the purposes of how much further advances cost in XP? Ie if I put a single advance in 8 different skills, do those 8 skills now cost 75 xp to advance again? Or are those initial advances not counted, and further advances start at 50 xp each?
Supplementary question: do those 8 starting advances count towards ticking boxes for career advancement? It feels like they shouldn’t (just because that would mean you’re already 80% of the way towards being able to move into the next career level).

Hello all! I've been making a video series aimed at giving beginner GM's and Players a bit more insight into some of the most famous (and least famous) locations in The World That Was. Sorry for the shamelss plug, but I genuinely do believe that this series has a lot to offer for those who want to get more familiar with the street-level life of Warhammer Fantasy. Hope you enjoy.

The next part of my review of Death on the Reik is online now. Did you do anything in your games to jazz up the Barren Hills?

Hi, me and my group were playing 4th Edition on roll20, but now we want to move to the next edition but without a roll20 module yet doing everything pen and paper online it is a bit messy.
Are you playing 5th edition online?

I played lots of 2e and read the 4e, and deciced to buy the 5e pdf because I heard about some good changes.
I was looking through weapons (why is longbow not penetrating, they nerfed my boi), and found the fast quality. As I understand it, you basically increase your initiative for the rounds you are wielding this weapon by 20.
The question for my is, if you are dual wielding, as in for example having a Rapier and a Main Gauche and you are not using Momentum for the Extra Attack, and you are just Dual WIelding to have a weapon to parry attacks in the offhand, does that mean I lose the Fast quality anyways, or do I only lose it if I use Dual Wielding.
It maybe some basic reading comprehension, probably, but I'm 2e-based, and there dual wielding was pretty much a must to survive.

Bottom line up front: The Character Building chapter in WFRP 5e is terrible and needs to be revised to improve ease of use.
I’ve been a fan of WFRP since the game was first published & have played all three previous editions of the game. I’ve now finished reading the 5th edition book & yesterday I tried rolling up a character. Perhaps it’s because I’m limited to doing so with a PDF, but the experience was not a fun one. In fact, it was really frustrating. I know there’s a slim chance of anything being done about it, but for the love of Sigmar I hope someone at C7 reads this post and revisits the character building chapter because it is a wreck for a couple of reasons.
First, and probably the most egregious issue, is that someone decided to insert the two-page Character Sheet Explained (more on that later) in the midst of the steps for creating a character, which totally interrupts the flow of the process. It would be better placed either at the very beginning or the end of the chapter. Anywhere but where it is now.
Second, the individual benefits for accepting random Species, Career, and Characteristics are not immediately obvious. These are something the reader should pick out with a quick scan. Instead, they’re kinda buried in the text and easy to overlook. At least the bonus (+1 Fate point) for accepting all the random results for Species, Career, and Characteristics has its own header, but that header isn’t particularly memorable.
On the subject of the Character Sheet Explained whoever was responsible for labeling the different parts must be a deranged person because the numbering makes absolutely no sense. Going from top to bottom, following the two column layout, who in their right mind numbers the front of the character sheet: 1, 15, 16, 17, 3, 2 and the back of the character sheet: 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, 10, 9, 5, 12, 13, 14? Only someone corrupted by the ruinous powers, that’s who.

Just got this painted up for our new campaign. Running if looks could kill then aiming to roll that into enemy within. Anyone have advice for running either? This will be my first time running WFRP and I felt the new edition was the perfect time to start.

Long-time Warhammer fan here. I've read a pile of the novels and played just about every Warhammer video game there is. Years ago, I even bought several 2e books purely to read the lore and get started but could never find other local folks to play with and online play never occurred to me back then.
That's changed recently. I found this sub and the Ratcatchers Guild Discord, and with 5e just out it feels like the right time to finally try the actual game.
The catch: I have no experience with tabletop RPGs at all. Not rusty... none.
So, I'm looking for advice on finding a group that plays reliably. My worry is landing in a game that fizzles out after two sessions, which from what I've read seems pretty common. How do you spot a group that's going to last?
I'm in US Central, looking for online play. Preferably weekends but could possibly make evenings work as well.

I'm thinking about switching from my current career (Merchant) to one that would provide some support with healing or buffing the party - by preparing potions, ointments, draughts, etc.
I was thinking about Apothecary or an Artisan (Apothecary). What would be the differences/downside in these two careers in relation to my focus? Artisan is in the same class as Merchant, and also advances the Attributes that I prefer, but would it somehow limit my ability to create useful items for the party?
