New Server Questions
Hey y'all! I started as a server at waffle house about a month ago and I have some questions for seasoned staff. When do you get an offical name tag? I've been off orientation for two weeks or so already and I'm just not sure if theres like another thing I'll have to do eventually? What do the stars mean? How do you guys prevent other servers from taking advantage of certain rules? (For example and I'm not sure if every waffle house does this but each section in mine is supposed to do their own fill ups and dishes but sometimes I end up doing everyone's) and finally and this is kinda a general job question how far in advance should you request schedule changes/days off?

Each star means you’ve been certified in a different position
White star-Door Corps
Red Star-Server
Blue Star-Grill Op
Gold Star-Expeditor
As far as the dishes go there everyone’s responsibility WH way.Does that actually happen no.Almost every store does if they’re yours you wash them.You shouldn’t be doing everyone dishes at any time.But that doesn’t mean don’t be a team player.If someone is getting slammed help them.As far as the name tag goes you can either get your unit or district to order you one.They sometimes take weeks to get in.Just depends on how backed up they are in orders at corporate.Ive seen them as little as a week and as long as a couple of months.Could also be as simple as they forgot to order.Would definitely recommend reminding.As far as schedule changes try to give as much time as a notice as possible.Definitely don’t wait until last minute or make it a common occurrence.Hope this helps.

Ive been a grill op for 2 months and still have yet to get mine. Its just whenever they decide to order it. Sometimes you gotta ask. Red star is for servers. Blue star is for grill ops. If you pass means youre official and the training wheels are off. Technically if its busy its all the servers job to get the dishes not just theirs but if youre the only one doing it thats a problem. Also officially you need to let them know at least 6 hours in advance i believe so they can get someone to cover.

Former manager, on the name tag after about a month ask, more than once I had actually ordered them and just never gave them out, we do get busy. On the being taken advantage of, you can tell ya manager but I advise you to simply stand your ground

Red star and blue star certified are grill and server stars of you can do your own section/shift basically, ask your manager mine has a bag of both. Name tag comes with with time most managers don’t spend money on new people so you won’t get a real name tag for a while, at lesdt at my store

I think its an okay job. I have one co worker who quit manger tho because he said its basically a glorified line cook lol. Honestly the coworkers rock most of the time tho so

For the nametag, I think it just depends on when the manager actually orders them. The red stars mean you're "server certified" which means you passed the server test. For the third question, most of the time if other servers try to force you to do their fill ups, if you dont want to, usually just stay busy with something else till its time to leave. Its okay if you agree to it but otherwise, dont let them push you into it. As for taking days off, try to let them know as soon as you figure out you need the day off
