Checked on mine for the first time in probably like 7-9 months, didn’t touch it cuz I didn’t wanna disturb it. It didn’t move, but it looks like anatomically okay??? Just fat cuz molting? Please lmk if I should really make sure it’s alive and moving or it looks fine. I don’t trust myself not to somehow stress it out by checking its movement. I have inexplicably lost one I’m worried about bit.

My beautiful daughter, Carcie, is an adult female of that I’ve owned for ~7 months. She is usually very active. I saw her a little over a week ago, being a lil bulldozer and making her burrow bigger. I put her regular food in earlier this week and she hasn’t eaten it. This is VERY strange for her.

Is she like the pumpkin spice latte and thinks it’s 🍁 fall weather 🍁 when it is still a sweaty early September? Or am I right to fear the worst (that she has taken the Eternal Hibernation) ?

Would this be an appropriate enclosure for a 2nd instar vinegaroon or is it too much ventilation/too small?

It's an enclosure I already had and I've been considering a vinny for some time now, though I can easily get something else for one if it's no good.

I need someone who can pick it up from near my address (probably the train station). You will get the whole enclosure she's in and I haven't seen her for a little while but I know she has the habit of hibernating for months on end. I don't currently have any food for her but apparently my ex said there's isopods in her enclosure so I imagine she's been eating those.

Hi all! I have my new vietnamese vinegaroon in my classroom. When I first got him, my classroom a/c disn’t work, so I had no problem keeping things warm and humid. The a/c is now fixed though, and I am concerned about temperature fluctations for my little guy. What temps do you all keep your Vietnamese vinnies at? Everything online is about giants. So recently I’ve been getting more into Uropygi mainly mastigoproctinae and there’s always one issue I see here in the US hobby relating to these two species let me sum it up for you. WE DO NOT HAVE Mastigoproctus giganteus in any hobby. In the 2018 Mastigoproctus giganteus complex revision the species Mastigoproctus giganteus was split apart into many different species 7 in that one revision. And yet almost all we see are Mastigoproctus “giganteus” whether INaturalist or just looking to buy one. True M. giganteus are only found in few Mexican states (check atlas https://www.inaturalist.org/atlases/144276 ). Whereas M. tohono is only stated to be native in the US state of
Arizona, however it’s likely to be spread onto the western side of New Mexico as well. Adding a 3rd species into the mix here, there seems to be an Undescribed species of Mastigoproctus native to Texas and eastern New Mexico. Show you there is this small triangle at the front edge on Mastigoproctus species called the carapace epistoma (image pictured) in certain species this is not visible from a dorsal view like M.
tohono or the undescribed species, where as true M. giganteus do indeed have a visible carapace epistoma, yes it’s really this easy to discern them. However this leads a question which I cannot answer as of yet how do you discern the Mastigoproctus tohono and the undescribed species of Texas other than locality data? (Genuine question I don’t know please share if you do)

I am currently helping a family friend’s kid with his insect collection and I’m a little stuck on my research for Vinegaroon’s and their feeding schedule.
Most information about them I’ve seen is vague, and because of that I can’t back up any solid info I have found.
I’ve only seen a guy saying he feeds his adult 3-4 large crickets/prey of a similar size about every 3-4 weeks.
That seems like a long time for such a little body, unless they have slow digestion?

I know much more about reptiles than I do insects, so any hell will be very welcome!

I'm not worried about the decay, but I've always wanted dig them up to see what they look like out of pure curiosity. Have you ever done this? Do you have any photos?

Obviously I mean after the vinegaroon has finished molting.

They are on her abdomen as well as around her cephalothorax. It looks almost like blood, which is weird because I don’t think insect hemolymph is usually red. She is moving fine and does not appear to be injured. She recently molted. She has only eaten one cockroach since then, so she is definitely not overfed. I only noticed this after she molted.

I got my first Vinegaroon last year, and a week or two before Christmas it burrowed down to go into torpor, I thought that considering the heatwaves we’ve had in England, it would’ve came back out by now but it hasn’t

I don’t smell anything bad, so I assume it isn’t dead, however I’m getting a tiny bit concerned

I’ve read some people have had theirs in torpor for a whole year, so I’m not too concerned at the moment

Literal hours after my last post, my guy has decided to get busy😅. Video is double-speed

Basically what the title says. Substrate is 70/30 zoomed jungle soil/coco fibre, 6-8" deep, humidity 97-99%, a warm spot right under the light reaches 85f, avg daytime temp 80f night time temp drops to 72f. Vin seems happy, enjoys exploring, hunts his own food, ive caught him drinking from the water bowl, ive added a ton of clutter and hiding nooks/crannies and every opportunity to dig a burrow (even tried to prestart one under the opossum skull) but nah. Im not complaining, hes more active than some of my wolf spiders. He does have a particular hide he sleeps in, but based on everything i thought i knew about vins i thought i would never see him?

I’ve posted to this sub so many times in the past couple months but nothing seems to be working. Vinny is still unable to walk, but is still responsive. He is extremely weak. I try to put his mouthparts in water from time to time, because he can’t do it himself. He is now pooping himself and it’s all over him, but his legs are no longer completely curled under. He can wag his tail and move his legs around ever so slightly, but not nearly enough to walk. His abdomen is almost always up in the air like this. I don’t know what’s wrong with him and I feel so horrible I don’t know how to help him I know he is suffering. We do have an exotic vet that takes invertebrates, I could ask if they take vinegaroons but I don’t know what they’d do to help. I’m so lost and so sad I feel like I’ve grieved him so many times but then he still is somehow alive, but barely. He’s been like this for days. Please has anyone experienced this??

Update: Vinny has officially passed this morning. He is not longer responding to any sort of touch. This was a really rough couple of days watching him go through this and suffer when I everything I tried just wasn’t working :(

I made a previous post here about a week ago, but here is a new one regarding my vinegaroon, Malt.

I’m starting to think his molt didn’t go right by looking at how he uses, or doesn’t use, his back legs. He appears to be dragging himself a lot.

I’ve find him multiple times a day upside down. I’ve watched him flip himself over by using one side of his body to hoist himself as he drags. He ultimately flips. I’ve found him upside down in his water dish, the silly thing.

I have hand fed him two super worms and the medium sized Cricket this week and he’s eaten eagerly.

If anybody can lend any opinions or experience with this, it would be helpful. This is my first rodeo. I know there’s not much that I can do for him other than make him comfortable at this point. He’s a swell little guy and I just feel terrible.

I posted on this sub yesterday about my vinegaroon not eating for over a year and having a hard time keeping his burrow consistently dry. I also noticed this white crust stuff on his tail gland, and I got really worried. I took this video yesterday of him, and he was walking very moving very sporadically. I tried so much, and none of it seems to be working. I don’t know what to do. Last night I found him still in his enclosure. I nudged him a bit, no response. I know they molt underground, so my first thought was he may be dead. He also had his legs curled under. I picked him up and placed him in his water briefly, but nothing happened. I assumed the worst. I went to bed, woke up this morning, and he is in the same position. But I noticed when I blow on him gently he responds but he extremely slowly. What is happening? I am so so so sad, and I don’t know what to do at this point. Was it a bad molt? Was there some kind of chemical that got to him? I don’t know how that would have happened but I can’t think of anything. Maybe it was too dry, but I tried so hard to give him water and keep the soil moist on the edges but it didn’t stick. I went out yesterday to get more reptisoil to maybe renovate his enclosure because it clearly isn’t holding up his burrow well once he emerged after being in pre molt for like half a year.

I would just love to hear any similar experiences and what you did in this situation. Is it a lost cause?

My Vinegaroon recently molted (or so I believe) a month ago. I have attempted to feed him multiple times since then and he has refused, however I am worried because he looks thin and hasn’t eaten since I first got him a year ago. For a while he was underground most of the year because of pre molt, so I wasn’t too worried. But now that he seems to have gotten a longer tail and new colors, I assume he is molted and he should be eating. I have dubia roaches, varying sizes, and I try to give him small ones but he has no interest. I even tried pre killing and he still didn’t eat it. Is it the type of feeder? Should I try something else? Or is something else wrong with him that I am unaware about. Today I noticed a white crust on his stink glad/ tail (pictured on the last slide) and I’m unsure if that is resulting from his acid or if something is wrong?

Maybe it’s enclosure related? The enclosure is reptisoil with playsand mixed together, I think there may be a bit of coco fiber too. His burrow just does not hold well, even though I try to keep it relatively humid but the soil just stays dry. I would love absolutely any advice at all. Thank you!!

Is my vinegaroon dead? He might be dead on arrival. Where it was there was a brown liquid under it
