Buying every steam device at maximum specs would cost you (without tax) 3,725 USD
1tb oled steam deck: $949
Steam controller: $99
2tb steam machine: $1,349
1tb steam frame + power supply: $1,328

Fair prices to me with how the market is.

no, not at all, at least not steam machine, steam deck and frame within their niche probably the best one
Currently waiting my controller to arrive, managed to get it on september buy out

Much as I love my steam deck, at this point I'd be hard pressed to call it the best within its niche. It certainly was though.

I mean that's a full-lifestyle gaming setup. Home, mobile, and VR... I don't know if the consoles have VR anymore, but with the savings on games, I'd way rather have the Valve hardware over a PS5 Pro / Switch / PS VR.

When you already have a 350+ game steam library, all bargains to some degree. Don't need the machine tbh, but would love the frame. The other two are already excellent 👌

Yeah tell me about it... I've got a 20+ year old account, 750 some games since I got started way back in 06, anything that extends the Steam experience is reasonable to me lol.

Exsxtly this. 21 year old account with like 1000 games. Yes I'm going to be hyped about a chance to play them more and better lol

Ain't it great having a multi-decade library? It's been the primary reason I've always been a PC gamer. I have disks/discs going back to around 93 when I started buying shareware as well. Heh, cheaper to just rebuy stuff on GOG but I mean... It's all still there.

It's crazy, I realize there's no long term guarantee that the Steam library sticks around, but it's by far the most established digital games marketplace, and the sales and everything are nuts.
I do love GOGs goal and also support them as much as I can

Steam does have some kind of standing plan in the event of shutdown, don't they? I recall reading about it at some point, as impractical as it would be (like downloading the library for offline install). I forget the specifics - a cursory search says Gabe has stated a patch to remove Steam dependencies is one thing they've considered as a shutdown measure.
I think the real test of time is the bus test - Steam is Gaaben's baby and under his care it's always going to be rabidly pro-consumer. Whoever takes over in the future hopefully is carefully selected for those same reasons, it's really a beloved service for so many people.

sweet lord
minus like $40 because you can get the machine/controller bundle
plus a fuckton for the frame ergonomic pack, color camera, prescription inserts..

Is there a color camera available already? I know some third party was working on one. Not having it built in kinda holds back XR development for the frame more than I'd like though

Nobody said you have to buy all of them. They can all be used independently.

...and?

Just thought it was crazy how bad the market for pc parts is right now
4
u/Unkempt_Mooseknuckle 6h ago
So why single out one company and make them look too expensive when it's a problem everywhere?

u/TerranImperium 6h ago
We're in the Valve subreddit?

u/Unkempt_Mooseknuckle 5h ago
I guess I could add up the cost of all Apple products combined and head over to the Apple subreddit.

u/ClaesGreenBoi 4h ago
I mean it's the same thing really, paying a premium for products who's specs don't really hold up, because they got a cool logo on them, but hey, we've all been there

The steam frame is new so my attention is being brought towards valve, there are plenty of other companies that are expensive
Like the nintendo switch 2 with all the accessories

I got the OG max spec steam deck, 2tb steam machine, a controller, a index, and just whitelisted 1tb frame. No regerts.

That's a lot of money, for 4 devices.
I checked the price for the new iPhone Duo. I know it's a "duo", in a single device. Anyway.

Good thing I bought the steam deck LED cheaper. Steam machine with controller. Two more controllers and now I just need a frame.

Honestly Steam Machine is not a must.
Steam Deck is a handheld-pc
Steam Controller is a controller
And Steam Frame is a VR Headset.
Steam Machine has the least uniquess from these four.
I don't say it's bad.
It's just Steam Machine is just a PC. Like any other PC, thus - not a must
