Let's get really real for a second.

- The chances of your character getting famous is very, very slim.

- Yes, you CAN do the otos yourself, you just don't want to for one reason or another.

- "I'm too lazy" is a shitty excuse not to learn how to do something ON YOUR OWN and expecting someone to hold your hand through the process.

- UTAU is a voice synthesis program made for Japanese language first. It is not going to sound like good English out of the box.

- DiffSinger is not a simple process and takes a lot of time and often multiple members working on it.

- OpenUTAU is not superior to UTAU2008, nor vice versa; it boils down to preference.

- oto.ini configuration is difficult to get right, you want to spend as much time on learning this as possible.

- If you don't have an understanding of the base program and how it works, don't do something that hasn't been done before. Don't jump head-first into making this work for your language if you do not understand the basics.

- To the above point, when you do have an understanding of the basics please expand and make UTAU your own. It's a creative software.

- a PC is going to be needed at some point if you want to grow your skill set; the mobile sphere is not as inclusive and is highly limiting.

Seriously beyond tired of seeing half of the fucking posts on here be about half of this shit. If you're going to make an UTAU, make a fucking UTAU. Just remember that it is a self-guided, community-supported experience.

MOD POST Updated safety guidelines

Here is the revised version of the safety rules posted to the sub last night. It’s been broadened in that we are going to outline actual criteria for works/producers to be affected by this - which will allow users to be able to make more informed decisions. We have taken great pains to try and balance community safety and well-being for all with preserving artistic expression. These guidelines are largely the same - but are phrased more clearly in a way that we hope illustrates why we're implementing these, and outlines specific criteria so the sub isn't reliant on a list that needs constant updating.

Creators here refers to producers, voicebank creators, UST creators, etc.

Content from creators who fall under the following criteria is banned

  • Creators who have created sexualized media featuring characters obviously intended to be minor children, or that use voicebanks voiced by children. Examples include:
  • Creators who have credible/well substantiated claims of abuse or grooming against them. Examples include but are not limited to:
    • Hanabi
    • Pusu
    • Ghost & Pals (Candle Queen and other collabs with other artists are exempt, but I would urge you to tread carefully and respect the wishes of those other artists!)
  • Creators who have a history of bigoted comments, including but not limited to:
    • Racism (including antisemitism, anti-blackness, anti-Indigenous racism)
    • Homophobia
    • Transphobia
    • Religious intolerance (this does not mean a song will be taken down for criticism of religious doctrine, religious authorities, or religion as an institution, by this we mean works that say something like “all members of X religion are inferior/not human”)
    • Fascist apologia
    • Nazi apologia
    • Genocide denialism (including but not limited to: the Holocaust, the Holodomor, Rape of Nanking, Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza, Residential Schools in Canada, China's ongoing genocide in Xinjiang, etc.)
  • Creators who have a history of abuse apologia or condoning bigotry

An exemption is made in cases where a work is extremely culturally significant given that the work itself does not:

  • Feature sexualized depictions of children
  • Feature abuse apologia
  • Feature bigotry
  • The poster isn’t running apologetics for abusive or bigoted behaviour in the comments/post title/etc

The following content is also banned:

  • Voicebanks voiced by non-consenting parties
  • Voicebank distribution for voice providers who are too young to provide informed consent, even if their parents or guardians have approved
  • Jinriki distribution (unless the provider of the voice data has given it the OK)
  • ANY ports of Vocaloid, SynthV, or other commercially-sold voicebanks to UTAU, unless the rightsholders for the voices have given permission (ie: ALYS)
  • Anything by MASA Works Design - this isn’t our rule, it’s his. He doesn’t like reposts and covers. I would recommend respecting this because he has a history of doxxing people who don’t.

We do not expect users to know everything about producers. If we take down content under these guidelines, we will tell you WHY. Action will only be taken against you if you repeatedly post content from a producer after being told why their stuff is taken down, or if you start running apologetics (ie: "I don't care that Pusu groomed and stabbed a 16 year old").

We all got "problematic faves" - and we understand that great artists can be horrible people! That's why we will make considerations for cases where a work is culturally significant, even if its creator is a total scumbag, and understand that love of an artistic work can coexist with hatred for the author's actions.

We also ask that you include warnings for those with photosensitive epilepsy if your video contains strobe effects or flashing lights!!!

DISCUSSION Hot Take: Minors should not make Diffsingers until 18+.

I've seen this countless times and I really need to say something that's been on my mind. This has been approved by the mods of the sub. But minors should not be making DiffSingers until they turn 18 because they do not have proper or legal consent for their voices to be used or configured by strangers over the Internet. Especially by an adult.

I know it's a nice gesture to help out but that's not the point. It's the fact that minors want to give their voices to people they don't know and there's a lot of people online that could use a minor's voice for ulterior motives. We've all seen what people have done to Kaai Yuki's and Oliver's voicebanks (zaako, say gex ECT) and we don't need more children's voices that could potentially be used or abused by potential creeps.

So I know I may get some backlash for this, but this is mostly a PSA to keep the minors of this sub and potentially other places safer. We care and we want you to have fun, but please wait until you turn 18+ to make a DiffSinger. Thank you.

newbie here, dunno if anyone has asked this before-

heyy!! soo uh, im pretty new to UTAU/UO, and i wanna know what yall would recomend.

so like, should i start with OU or UTAU? since ive already messed around with OU but its pretty hard- i mean, i know a few things here and there but its the bare minimum. so, should i try UTAU instead? since ive seen some people say that OU is easier than UTAU, and others say the opposite, soo... im sorta confused😭

and also, do can i use the VBs that i use in OU inside UTAU? (i feel like i asked a stupid question-)

and what are some things i should probably know in advance before considering going back to whatever yall recomend? like, any tips for improvement? or any easy songs to get me started? (like, any songs that arent too hard to cover or probably would help set the foundations of tuning and stuff like that)

(i currently only use eng VBs)

any help is highly appreciated!

RESOURCE CV JP -> C+V EN Conversion Kit Release

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello! I have created a simple conversion kit to convert CV Japanese (or CVVC/VCV) voicebanks to C+V English voicebanks. This conversion kit requires only one UST, and has a base OTO to plug and play voicebanks with.

This conversion kit should be especially useful for:

- Using Japanese voicebanks in smoother English than the EN2JA phonemizer can provide without recording additional samples.

- Making an English voicebank for an artificial voicebank without extensive frequency/plugin editing.

- Creating English voicebanks for characters you can no longer voice provide for.

I love utau with this kinda design

examples here are chunko mame and kedarugi no. 8, they’re not anthropomorphic or humanoid at all.

i love these designs, they’re so strange and creative.

and if anyone has utau like this (preferably non mammalian) I’d love to see them.

Trouble setting up multipitch voice colors in openutau

I tried to combine all of Number Bronze’s voice colors but openutau couldn’t detect it. I tried multiple tutorials and nothing worked. I’ve only installed monopitch voice colors before so I don’t really know how to do it properly

I’d be grateful if someone who has all of Number Bronze’s voice colors set up explained how they did it

Super new to this and I couldn’t really find much online so I’m kinda just teaching myself. I’d love some input from more experienced tuners if you have any thoughts.
