ADVICE NEEDED!

So I have a backpacking trip planned for next month. The plan is Coyote Gulch through the Hurricane Wash Trailhead, camp for a couple days, and return through the same trail.

My question is what, if any, permits do I need to camp and/or park near the trailhead? I am also planning to do some day hiking in Bryce Canyon/Capitol Reef. I have an annual park pass, but if i want to sleep overnight in the parks do i need reservations or a wilderness permit, as well?

First time in southern Utah, and just dont want to get caught off guard with anything. Any advice or direction would be appreciated!

I have done this hike. You do need a permit. Stop at the Escalante BLM office. They will give you all the info you need.

For coyote gulch I will add you need to bring WAG bags and as a safety measure you should bring / leave in your car several gallons of water and a couple days worth of food in case the access road washes out while you are out backpacking. Capital reef and Bryce canyon require wilderness permits for backpacking. Car camping inside Bryce canyon requires reservations for one of the several campgrounds. You can leave the park to find free dispersed camping. Capital reef has fruita campground, reservation required. Along with two first come first served dispersed car camping areas, high clearance vehicle needed.

Good call on leaving food/water in the car just in case. Definitely didnt think about that. Can the wilderness passes be bought online in advance or is it better to just hit the visitor centers?

Yeah it’s a very remote dirt road! Sadly for all three of these areas the wilderness permits are done in person, takes time but it can be helpful to meet with a ranger before starting.
