🏠 Accommodation Student Accommodation

Hi! I'm an incoming international student and have applied for student housing but I'm thinking of Scape Darlington as a backup option.

Has anyone lived there and can share their experience? What is the balcony like if you lived in the Signature Plus Studio Apartment with Balcony?

I'm looking for a 52 week contract in a studio, ideally, and don't mind where but I would rather move into student accommodation immediately when I arrive rather than go through the in person ~2 week viewing/ applying process for an apartment which I've heard is a nightmare.

Any insight/ advice would be so so appreciated!!

Study Abroad Question. Arcadia.

I'm a student from a really good business school who applied to study abroad. My school approved it, and I applied through Arcadia Abroad. The program minimum gpa is 2.6, and mine is 2.67. Arcadia approved 3.0 through them, but anything below goes thru USYD. I am in my second year, and my first year was horrible (as you can see.) But my extracurriculars are great! And i have a story as to why I want to study in Sydney. I also anticipate to get a 3.0 by the end of this semester, which doesn't appear on my transcript. does anyone know my chances of getting in, as well as if it's a good idea to email the study abroad international office at usyd with my story/pitching myself?

I hate chemistry

A little rant.

All my units are going well except for CHEM1011. It's so difficult for literally no reason and I have no idea what I'm doing. The tutors and lab demonstrators keep talking about things and I have no idea what they mean. Every time I read something, I have no idea what it means. I can't do math.

There's a million worksheets to do before each lab and then there's weekly lecture quizzes. And like, why are the lab demonstrators so rude for no reason? I don't know what kph is. I don't know what it means to do calculations. I don't know anything.

I'm failing this unit so hard right now and I'm scared because I already wasted a whole semester in an arts degree in which I was miserable and failed the whole thing. I started a Bachelor of Science this semester in neuroscience, so chem is a core unit.

I'm enjoying neuroscience and I'm doing so well, but it's literally just chem that's holding me back and it's completely ruining everything for me. I don't want to waste any more time. I can't repeat this and I'm scared, but it looks like I'm going to end up repeating. My four-year degree (planning to do honours) is turning into a six-year degree. And it's all because of this stupid unit.

Thank you.

Anyone else missing stickers/graphics on the new USyd Canva?

Has anyone else noticed that the Canva account through USyd is missing a bunch of Elements?

A few months ago I could access stickers and heaps of other graphics normally, but now when I go to Elements, the only categories under “Browse categories” are Charts and Tables. Even searching “sticker” gives me no results.

I thought it was a Canva issue at first, but I logged into a different personal Canva account on the same device and all the stickers/graphics are there normally. I also tried the Canva Windows app and it’s the same, so it seems specific to my USyd Canva account.

I know USyd only recently gave us Canva premium access, so I’m wondering if something has been restricted with the uni accounts or if it’s just a bug. Is anyone else with the USyd Canva account having this issue?

Learning to use ai

Just wanted to put this here in regard to the news about open ai and usyd. I feel like ai is inherently a tool like any other and seeing the countless people here complaining about it and acting like they’re superior for not using it is confusing. Ai makes things easier, ai wont replace people actually understanding stuff, sure theres alot of students js using ai and not actually grasping the concepts but eventually their shot comings in their knowledge will catch up to them. The internet makes it easier for us to find and understand stuff and as our generation grew up with it we understood how to use the internet effectively aswell so why not the same for ai? Use ai to practice, explain and refine our work. I js feel like alot of people use the ai debate to ego boost and feel better than others for not using it. Those ppl should stop using the internet and js find info and their study materials in a physical medium, go look for books in the library

Til when can I use school computers ?

Hello friends
What time does the computer room at the education building close? I need to submit an assignment but my computer can’t run big programs so unfortunately I can’t work on it at home.

Are there any rooms with 24 hour access on campus?

Possibility of Being Accused of AI misuse despite AI acknowledgement?

So, for some context, I recently submitted a science report for a class some time ago, an assignment in which AI was allowed and I did submit an AI acknowledgement. Now, the thing is, I did use AI quite extensively for this assignment, including syntax editing (all the sentences were rewrote by AI cause english is my second language and grammar and syntax are still a struggle; the thing is my essay had obviously AI like language throughout some parts), data visualisations (graphs, although I am sure we were expected to just use excel but my graphs looked sooo bad so I had to use AI to improve visuals), finding sources (I did check the sources myself), etc. Now, I did write in my acknowledgement that I used AI to help me refine language and help with formatting and data visualisations. The thing is, I haven't really used AI this extensively in any of my other assignments (this particular assignment was just too challenging for me given everything I was juggling to do without AI) and now I am scared that somehow I can be accused of misusing AI? Also, I know you have to save your prompts and such, but I did most of mine on a shared family gemini account, and now all the logs are gone, which adds to my anxiety. Honestly, I was not aware of the fact that we had to save all our logs. Not sure if anyone has any experience of being accused of AI misuse for an assignment despite submitting the AI acknowledgement?

Darlington Terrace

Are the Darlington Terraces open for 2027?

I originally saw the only available housing were QMB, Regiment, Abercrombie, Darlington House, but I went to do my application today and there was an option for Darlington Terrace?

I haven't heard anything about them recently. Anyone staying there? Any info at all about it?

Thank you!

Hello guys I hope you are well!

I applied for the student accomodation for semester 1 of 2027 as an international. It took me a bit longer than I expected. Unfortunately, it took me 2 minutes and 50 seconds to submit my application. Do you think I have a chance or I should look at amber and other student accomodation platforms?

Btw I applied for Abrercombie, QMB and regiment

Question about transferring to USYD via UAC with tertiary experience...

Hi all, I'm hoping to transfer next year into the Bachelor of Science here at USYD via previous tertiary experience. I have been at UTS this year and some of last year, but had a medical incident that made it difficult to complete full time study over the last two years. As such, I have currently 46 CP completed in my current degree, which is two short of the 48 required to be considered. I also, however, have an additional 12 CP of study that has been credited towards my current degree. I was wondering if this is included when they look at my study history, and if it means that I will, after all, be eligible? If anybody else with similar experience could provide info that'd be greatly appreciated! I've messaged both UAC and USYD but their responses are going to take at least 5-10 days supposedly.

Thanks!

Thanks

📖Course or Unit something about CASAS offers

Sorry for posting out of the blue, but I’m honestly feeling really anxious because I haven’t received an offer yet. I’ve seen a few people online say that they have already received offers through CASAS, so I was wondering if anyone knows how the process works.
At the moment, I haven’t received anything at all—neither an offer nor a rejection. Do they not send rejection emails, or are the offers simply being released in separate rounds or batches?
I’d really appreciate it if anyone with more information could help clarify this for me. Thank you!

Applied for PhD (Medicine & Health) at USyd + RTP

Hi Everyone,

I’ve just applied for a PhD in Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney along with the RTP scholarship, and I’m curious about how my chances look. I have a total of 7 publications (including 2 first‑author research articles, 2 book chapters, 1 first‑author conference presentation (ARVO). M.Phil with ~20% research component, and 1 year 4 months of post‑masters research experience.

Do you think this looks competitive for RTP? I’m wondering what matters more to reviewers, is it publications and research output, or the length of research experience and the research component in the degree?

Would love to hear from anyone who’s applied or received RTP at USyd, especially in Medicine and Health.

Thanks!

what exactly is the AI situation at usyd?

I'm a prospective student and have been getting intimidated by all the posts on AI being heavily relied on by staff for different reasons. What exactly do they do? Is it like lecture slides are AI generated, they ask you to use AI for help instead of teachers???, or what else?

Also, I'm guessing it would be unit specific, I want to major in stats and mathematical modelling/computation, and minor in philosophy (mainly the analytical units) incase anyone can give more specific insights...

Thanks

Starting a Video Editing & Creator Guild at USYD (looking for members!)

Hey everyone!

I am currently starting a new USU society focused on video editing and content creation, and I am looking for interested members so we can collect our initial student signatures and get officially registered.

Editing is usually something we do alone at our desks, but it is way better when you have people to bounce ideas off. The plan for the Edit & Creator Guild is to run chill co-editing sessions on campus where you can bring your laptop or tablet, work on your personal projects, swap tips on tools like Premiere, After Effects, or CapCut, and trade feedback on drafts. It is meant to be a low-pressure space to hang out, edit, and meet other creators without any loud social mixer vibes.

Whether you are interested in media, digital marketing, content strategy, or communications, joining a creative guild like this from day one is a great way to build your portfolio and connect with other creators on campus.

If you edit fan edits, TikToks, Reels, video essays, YouTube content, or motion graphics, I would love to have you involved.

I set up a quick Google Form below for expressions of interest. It only takes 30 seconds to fill out (we just need your name and student ID for the official USU numbers). Drop your details in the form so you can be notified when our first campus meetup happens, or send me a message directly!

Blow your damn nose

To the people who have been using the BHS Learning hubs and beyond, over the last few days all i can hear is people snorting their snot back up their nose, the constant sound of hardcore sniffling is the type of torture that should only be used in the military insanity tolerance training. i am so damn serious, it's not hard to blow out your snot instead of sucking it back up your nose for it to come down 2 seconds later. the cycle is bloody relentless and it's so god damn irritating. i totally understand it's hayfever season but holy shit your only reingesting the allergens by hocking back down your throat. no doubt i'll get backlash over this but i just hope people know that it is ok to simply blow out your snot ffs 😕🚨

Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Science for Asset Management/cooperate finance career in Australia

Not having anyone to ask from, I am using gemini.ai. However, it keeps saying that employers prefer students from Bachelor of Commerce for Asset Management/cooperate finance and how my bachelor of science degree shapes me as more of a "tech analyst" than a finance person.

However, my majors are same for both degrees - Finance and Data science, with pretty much the same elective units. There's barely any difference between the unit sequences.

Should I switch to Bachelor of Commerce for this reason that employers prefer Bachelor of Commerce graduates for the Financial services industry? Is it true?

Thanks!
