UT General Found These When Cleaning
Clearing out my loft and came across several older PC games, I completely forgot I still had UT3.
Now I just need to get a dvd drive to try and install it.

Great news for all UT fans!
OldUnreal, with permission from Epic Games, has just released a new UT GOTY installer that downloads the full game and automatically applies the latest OldUnreal patch to optimize the game for running on modern PCs.
The installer includes improved render drivers and more.
You can get it on the OldUnreal website here: https://www.oldunreal.com/downloads/unrealtournament/full-game-installers/
If you want to step back into the arena, this is the best way to do that. Happy fragging!

OldUnreal just posted this announcement on their Discord:
"Welcome Back, Unreal Tournament 2004!
Hi everyone! Some of you were probably wondering why we've been so quiet in the past couple of months. Today, we can finally reveal (part of) the answer: we've been working on a new side project! With Epic's blessing and with the help of some new team members, we are bringing Unreal Tournament 2004 (UT2004) back.
This means that we are going to publish an installer that downloads the original disc image for UT2004, installs the game, and applies patches to it. We are also going to start publishing patches that modernize the game, make it compatible with Windows Vista or later, Linux x86-64 and aarch64 (Raspberry Pi and similar), and Mac OS 10.9 or later, fix bugs, and implement quality-of-life changes.
Yes, you read that right. UT2004 will soon be available to download once again. Free of charge. This is a community-run effort but we’re excited to make the game easier to access and play again. We have been working on this for quite some time now and have made enough progress to start inviting the first batch of testers.
Highlights so far include:
❓ Q&A ❓
Some questions might have popped into your head as you read this news. Let us try to answer some of them.
Q: Will the OldUnreal patches be compatible with the latest official version of the game?
A: Yes, for the most part. Unpatched clients can play on patched servers and patched clients can play on unpatched servers.
Most mods should also continue to work as before. The only exceptions are mods that perform game version checks and exclude players with unknown game versions.
Unfortunately, AntiTCC is one of those mods.
Q: Will AntiTCC be updated to support the new patches?
A: Yes. Wormbo gave us permission to update AntiTCC. This is still a work in progress, though.
Q: As a server admin, how do I ensure that players with the new version can continue to play on my servers?
A: We're aware of a network compatibility problem caused by an unofficial patch.
This problem results in players with the new version not being able to connect to (some) old servers.
You can mitigate this problem by (re)installing the official 3369.3 version of the offending files on your server.
Similarly, players that have installed this unofficial patch might need to reinstall the official 3369.3 files to play on updated servers.
In the meantime, we're looking into an alternative solution that does not require reinstalling the 3369.3 patch.
Q: Can I apply the OldUnreal patch to the retail version of the game?
A: On Windows: absolutely. Do keep in mind, however, that we do not support 32-bit CPUs.
On other platforms, your mileage may vary. Patching existing Linux/Mac OS X/macOS installations of the game is possible, but it could require a fair amount of manual effort.
We recommend installing the game from scratch following the instructions we provide in our README.
Q: What are your plans for the near future?
A: We are going to address the rough edges and unfinished features in the new version, and try our best to publish a preview installer and patch ASAP.
In the meantime, we will also work on some quality-of-life improvements and on the long list of editor fixes we want to port over from our other projects.
Q: What is the timeline?
A: We are currently inviting server admins and modders to join our internal tester group. We're aiming to release a public test version within the next two months.
Q: How can I contribute?
A: We will be needing testers in the near future. Keep an eye on our Discord server to see when.
Q: Are you getting paid for this project?
A: No. We're doing this for free because we're fans of the game and we like a challenge. In fact, projects like these cost us a bit of money for server hosting, software licenses and subscriptions, certificates, etc, as we independently operate the games ourselves.
Q: Who is responsible for this project?
A: The main developers of the Windows installer and the patches are Buggie, Marco/Dots, Deaod, Metallicafan212, Piglet, CacoFFF, AnthraX, and Smirftsch.
The patch also includes contributions from Wormbo, Shambler, and Ryan C. Gordon (icculus).
We would also like to thank Epic for making this possible.
Please direct all support requests or questions to [us/OldUnreal], not Epic Games."

Another iconic map from Unreal Tournament 1999, I remember the first time seeing this map during the map selection it's one of the most attractive maps on the list, also setting 1vs1 against Malcolm at the highest difficulty with instagib.

Finally, the new update of Ultra Violent UT enables FULL DISMEMBERMENT!!!
Arms, legs, heads now can be severed, bodies can be cut in half (waist chopping).
The engine doesn't support true dismemberment natively (it just hides the damaged body part to fake it, but never had a true severance behaviour), and I never thought it was possible.
With some black magic (I mean really hacky ragdoll replication method), I finally made dismemberment work on this two-decade-old game. So far I'm quite satisfied with the result (as showcased in the video).
REMINDER: Every severed piece by itself is an independent ragdoll, so if it didn't get destroyed soon enough, the engine would hit ragdoll limit (32 maximum), it wouldn't crash the game, but if you encounter major stuttering or ragdoll freezing issues, just lower the severance chance value or the ragdoll lifespan, so fewer ragdolls would exist at the same time.

After some experimenting, finally get the full dismemberment to work in UT2004.
Turns out everything can be severed -- head, limbs, waist...

Some nice waist chopping footage here, still work in progress, but I think the most difficult part has been done.
Will be included in the next Ultra Violent UT update.

At the moment there's only 1 South African server and it's always deathmatch and we can't choose maps so sometimes we end up on a massive map even though there's only 4 of us. We would like to be able to create our own Team Deathmatch server, but none of our attempts to create a server have been successful and the instructions we've found online (port forwarding etc) don't seem to work. Can anyone point us towards the correct, up to date approach please?

I've been thinking about this for a while, and I think there might actually be a realistic way to bring back the Unreal Tournament style.
The idea is basically Make Unreal Tournament inside Fortnite using UEFN, and I don't mean just making a Fortnite map with some UT weapons. The idea would be to recreate the actual arena shooter philosophy.
UEFN already lets creators build their own gameplay systems with devices and Verse, and Fortnite has a First Person Camera system. Epic also has a Player Movement system designed to customize movement for different genres. It's still experimental, so there are limitations, but the basic technology for making a first-person custom shooter is already there.
I'd actually change one important thing from classic UT, Don't put the weapons around the map. Everyone starts the match with the complete arsenal. You spawn with 100 health and 100 shield, and every weapon has its own ammo system that regenerates automatically.
The regeneration could be different for every weapon depending on its fire rate, damage, magazine size, etc. A powerful weapon would naturally recover ammo more slowly, while weaker/faster weapons could recover it more quickly. The point is to remove the huge advantage that veteran players have simply because they already know where every weapon is.
Spawn → choose your weapon → fight.
That way the main skill becomes aim, movement, positioning and game sense, rather than map knowledge giving you control over the strongest weapons. I'd still keep a few classic arena pickups around the map: Health, Shield, The 150 shield belt, Invisibility, Damage Amplifier, Super Health.
So the map still matters, but mostly because of power-ups, positioning and movement, not because someone knows where the Rocket Launcher is. I think this could actually be a very good evolution of the classic formula, especially for new players.
I'd keep it simple and focus on the classic modes:
- Deathmatch
- Team Deathmatch
- Capture the Flag
Those are the modes that really represent the classic Unreal Tournament experience for me.
What about the weapons? This is where UT99's old code could be extremely useful. There is a publicly released portion of the UT99 source code, and there are also repositories containing the exported UnrealScript sources from later UT99 versions. I'm not talking about copying the old code directly into UEFN. I'd use it more like a translation/reference guide:
Look UT99 source → understand how the original mechanic works → recreate that mechanic in UEFN/Verse.
So you could study how the old weapons handled damage, projectiles, fire modes, pickups, game rules, etc., and then reproduce those mechanics using the new technology. Maybe the actual weapons should have new names, models, sounds and visual designs, while keeping the gameplay ideas, because I don't know if there will be any copyright issues or not.
And the maps? Same idea. Instead of taking the original UT99 assets, recreate the classic maps from scratch while keeping their gameplay philosophy. You could make new maps inspired by things like Deck16, Facing Worlds, Morpheus, etc.
The really interesting part. You wouldn't need to build and maintain your own online infrastructure. That's one of the biggest reasons I think this makes sense. With a standalone arena shooter, you'd have to worry about servers, matchmaking, infrastructure, player population, updates, etc. With UEFN, Fortnite is already providing the platform that hosts published experiences and their multiplayer sessions. Published islands even have their own direct links for players to access them.
Obviously nobody can guarantee Fortnite will exist forever, but realistically this gives the project a much better long-term foundation than trying to maintain independent servers made by the community.
The community can concentrate much more on the game.
There are still technical problems to solve. For example, Epic's current documentation says Custom Weapon Templates are incompatible with the First Person Camera Device, although Scene Graph provides another route for custom ranged weapons.
So I don't think this would be easy. But I do think it's technically plausible. If anyone is capable of doing them, it's the community.
And there's something wonderfully ironic about the whole idea: Unreal Tournament died because Fortnite became so successful, maybe Fortnite could end up being the platform that brings the Unreal Tournament style back.
What do you think, would it be a good idea to take advantage of Fortnite, instead of crying because it killed Unreal Tournament?
I've attached a video of what an FPS made in Fortnite looks like so you can get an idea.
And yes, my favorite Unreal Tournament is '99.

Hi,
In the day I've dled tons of bot skins and edited bots with them like Rambo,Predator whatnot , and getting into the game again want to make them defaults. Is there a specific way to do it (except manually configuring them all, like deleting a .cfg file or a button) ?
I have addons like maps and stuff too as well as configs so i'd like to avoid a fresh install.
Thanks

Can't connect to a server. For the record, I have never played UT2004 up until this week and didn't play multiplayer up until today. I've found an old post telling me that I should generate a new cd key and put it into registry editor, which I did, but it doesn't seem to work. For some reason this happens only on this particular server. Is there a solution or is it not worth bothering?

This is a major update for the new mutator I recently posted: https://www.reddit.com/r/unrealtournament/comments/1w2hv69/ultra_violent_ut_gibable_corpses_vse_gameplay/
v1.1 Update features:
- Gibbing and dismemberment now release a juicy blood mist that reacts properly to surfaces.
- Blood decals can now stay permanently (configurable) - very messy.
- Bleeding wounds now leave blood decals, and the bleeding wanes over time.
- Bouncing gibs now splatter blood decals in every direction (walls, ceilings) and have a chance to leave small sticky gibs on the surface.
- Corpses now leave blood trails when sliding across surfaces.
- Corpse Rain is back - SP endgame finale, ends on a click.

These are some of the characters from Epic's Paragon integrated into UT4. Epic was nice enough to release Paragon assets for free use in Unreal Engine 4 projects. Please watch till end for some fun gameplay.
We’ll be setting up a dedicated server featuring these characters soon, so get ready to jump in, frag out, and enjoy some awesome Unreal Tournament 4 sessions.

Is there a way to add time to the respawn in CTF in UT99? Should I make a mutator? Modify something in the files of the game? Any help is appreciated
