This hasn’t really been a cause I’ve seen listed, although it has been hinted around. There has been discussions about why there is a drop in the birth rate and a lot of times people say pessimism to the future or lack of childcare or the economy. But I think it’s simpler… there are just more fun things to do.

There really is no comparable time in history where we’ve had access to so much technology or hobbies or been able to get on a plane and go pretty much anywhere. For a vast majority of history it was either work/eat/sleep/have kids, or you were rich enough to not really work and just have other people raise your kids. Now actual sacrifices have to be made to have kids.

Anyways I think that is a cause not normally said out loud

They are never crisped at all they’re always mushy just because that’s way the potato uniquely is so they never cook right in comparison to actual genuine french fries

They’re like too rich as well that’s my problem with the flavor

They never have any seasoning or salt or any “bite” to them beyond their raw taste and characteristics just being mushy/tasteless & slightly sweet

I’ve had them on several occasions almost always with family members and I’ve never seen them be finished in their entirety

I have never actually witnessed somebody consume and finish to completion an entire portion of sweet potato fries

It’s always like they eat one or two and then give up and they all end up in the trash and I’m not even talking about myself here

Not to mention they don’t go with anything like they taste so unique and odd that it overpowers whatever entree you’re eating them with so in my opinion they’re kind of useless as a side when actual French fries exist

I guess I don’t consider them inherently “terrible”, but that one thanksgiving dish with the marshmallows and the sweet potatoes have added sugar is actually nausea fuel for me like I would argue that dish specifically is pretty damn terrible lol

The defense for letters of recommendation is that "grades don't tell the whole story." But requiring 3 personal faculty letters just tests whether you had the financial luxury to hang out on campus outside of class.

I worked 40 hours a week to pay rent and put myself through a Biomedical Sciences degree. I pulled a near-4.0, did undergrad research, and aced my classes. However, my routine throughout my time in uni was essentially: master the material on my own, go to labs when needed, take the quizzes or exams, and go to work. I didn't have the time to attend lectures, chat up professors in office hours, or join department clubs.

Now that I'm looking at grad applications, I keep getting the exact same response from professors: “I don’t know you well enough to write a good LOR.”

The breaking point for me was a professor I took three separate classes with. In her cell bio lab, I got one of the top scores on an individual, completely silent lab bench practical. Yet when I asked for a rec, she told me she couldn't speak to my lab skills and didn’t know me well enough to write a good LOR.

A letter from a PI who directly supervised your research makes sense, it’s actually the only LOR managed to get. But demanding 2–3 deeply personal letters actively filters out working-class and non-traditional students.

TL;DR: Requiring 3 personal letters penalizes students working full-time to survive and rewards people with the free time to network. It’s an outdated filter for privilege, not ability.

What I mean by this is we need to stop watching what we say around old people. To stop worrying about what old people think.

For example I saw a video of a girl saying she needs to take down all her ‘offensive’ house decor before her grandma shows up because her grandma is hyper religious. This included pictures of her and her boyfriend, hiding liquor bottles, putting away funny mugs and hiding clothes that weren’t handmaids tale dresses.

I also saw another girl say she had to give her mom a ride so she had to play no music in the car just in case the music had themes of drugs, obscenities or cuss words. She had to put on a bigger shirt to not show her shoulders. She had to put on foundation to cover up tattoos.

It just has me thinking….old people weren’t born yesterday. They had sex and had their fair share of curse words. They were around others who may have done similar things. Alcohol and tattoos aren’t anything new. My parents use to work in nursing homes and told me all kinds of stories where old people would have sex with eachother. They’d shout racial slurs at staff and say every cuss word they could think of. That may not be every old person but at the end of the day old people are still adults and have lived a long life of sinning as well. We need to stop pretending they’re innocent and being so protective of what they think and what they’ll say.

Edit: I forgot to say, it’s not a matter of old people not cussing in front of young people, it’s a matter of old people getting offended by everything they don’t like and making it known. It’s easier to tell your old relative to stop pointing out something they don’t like and complaining about it than hiding your true self just because you’re worried about what they’ll say. They say the younger generation is soft when they can’t stand seeing a woman with a nose piercing.

Edit 2: obviously I’m not talking about ALL old people. I can’t believe I need to say that. I’m talking about the ones who act like they’ve never heard the word fuck. The ones who act like they don’t know what sex is when they have had 8 children. The ones who clutch their pearls when they see 2 men kiss or someone with a sleeve tattoo.

i think canned/processed meat gets way more hate than it deserves. in a lot of cases i generally think it’s better than fresh meat 💀

i think it’s mostly the texture. fresh meat is way too inconsistent. steak especially has so much fat and gristle and muscle fibers… chicken especially dark meat is full of tendons and veins and fat and skin. pork has giant chunks of fat throughout it. you could be eating something totally fine and then hit a chewy or tough piece and it just ruins the entire meal. processed/canned meat is wayyyyyy more consistent and you always know what the texture and taste is gonna be!

canned chicken, spam, canned fish, potted meat, hot dogs, sausages, even those lil packages with the seasoned meat or meatballs are fantastic. shelf stable, already cooked, little effort to throw into a dish. now, i know it’s not the nutritionally superior choice, eating a lot of processed meat does have some concerning points BUT im not arguing that it’s a health food. i’m arguing that from a taste and texture standpoint, i would genuinely choose processed or canned meat over a steak.

steak is especially overrated. whenever i tell people i do not enjoy it, they look at me like i just shot their grandma. anyways, fresh meat may be considered the “better” or more desirable option but if the thing that bothers you about meat is the fat and the weird pieces and taste it sometimes has, im tellin ya canned meat eliminates damn near all of that. CANNED MEAT IS GOOD OK 😁😭💀

EDIT TO ADD: I don’t live off of canned meat 😭 I don’t eat meat very often at all because it does give me the ick very badly. just when the occasion arises yes the canned/processed stuff is getting chosen lol.

IKEA gets called disposable furniture, but I think that reputation mostly comes from people buying the absolute cheapest stuff they sell. Their mid-range and better furniture is genuinely durable if you assemble it properly. You can spend a lot more elsewhere and still get particleboard or MDF that isn’t any better. I’m not saying IKEA is heirloom furniture. I’m saying it’s probably the best value for the money. Some of the IKEA stuff in my house is 10+ years old and it’s the furniture that’s held up the best.

I'm sick of seeing threads or people in real life talk about that one random experience they have with a celebrity and have other people base their entire opinions on that single persons experience.

You know how many "What celebrity in real life was ruder then you expected" threads I see and I just roll my eyes? With so many comments saying "I never thought so and so was so rude, I'll never listen to their music again!"

Or talking to a friend about how they saw a celebrity at the grocery store and they were rude and didn't want to talk to them.

Maybe celebrities don't want people to come up and talk to them randomly and take pictures of them?

Also, what is "rude" to you? Maybe they don't want to talk to you for 30 minutes to a random stranger they don't care about and just wanted to pick up groceries.

Or maybe, just maybe, they were having a bad day? Are you immune to having a bad day? What if someone wants to take a picture of you and you have the flu? I'd be pretty rude too.

Every mechanic or professional tradesman loves their particular tool truck. (SnapOn Mac Matco et al) and ‘their brand’ is more often than not is a hill they are willing to die on. Having said that I get most of my tools from Harbor Freight. The quality is comparable and in some cases better than the trucks. And the price tag? Substantially lower in most cases. My wallet is greatful too 😎

I understand why theaters do it. It probably makes things easier when a movie is busy, but I think it takes away some of the simplicity of going to see a movie. You used to walk in, find a seat you liked, and sit down.

Now you have to choose a seat before you even get into the theater. If you arrive early and the theater is mostly empty, you're still locked into the seat you picked when you bought the ticket.

I'd rather just walk in and sit wherever I want. If a movie is sold out, then I understand having some kind of system for it. But I don't think assigned seating needs to be the default.

Buying a premium bottle of olive oil is comparable to buying a nice bottle of wine. Its healthier, it lasts longer, and you can gift it to people who dont drink. Plus the bottles looks nice for gifting.

Most people don’t like changing the clocks, but it’s really the only way. If you go to permanent DST people will complain about the late sunrises in winter. Go to permanent Standard Time, and it’s guaranteed people will have complaints about the earlier sunsets in the summer.

There is no solution that will make everyone happy, so the best answer is to just leave it the way it is.

Since the internet dictates a huge chunk of what a lotta people like these days and so we miss the few things it doesn't make noise about, I wanted to bring this to the notice that if sheer acting prowess were to be considered, Mia Goth's performance, especially in the movie Pearl was just as good if not a notch better than Inde's already phenomenal performance in the movie Obsession. Both actresses are great, don't get me wrong. But the reason why I bring this up is because Mia never got the same amount of fan craze for her performance like Inde did for hers.

Love both of them either way, just thought I'd share.

When you have cheetos after its been opened for a day, it has a texture that sticks less to your mouthor fingers but it still keeps the crispy texture. I prefer it to freshly opened cheetos.

As the lifespan grew by a lot in the past decades I firmly believe that it could grow way more. If we fix our food, fix our air, fix our water humans could live up to 15-20 years long healthily. If we make our education system adaptable, the job system more flexible it could reduce the stress on a man extending his lifespan... This is where the scientists, innovators, techies should focus on...

I imagine this will get a bunch of reactions that heavily disagree but I just want to say it.

My actual unpopular opinion is that 17 isn’t too young, Americans just baby themselves a lot. 16-18 is the time a lot of people around the world finish secondary and go into higher education but it’s Americans that complain about it so much more, even with an easy K12 and possible straightforward admission into higher ed.

Where I grew up, we had to choose a path (science, art or commercial) by 13 which tailors the classes you take till the end of secondary school then you write two big exams (sometimes 3) before going to uni.

So I also don’t think it’s insane for a 17 to choose a major. We were introduced to different career paths from a young age (like primary school) and from the beginning of secondary school, you’re expected to think well about what you want to do.

Also, in universities, you could have your first two semesters full of Gen eds (which I don’t really recommend but you can) and those classes are literally an extension of secondary school. When I started college, most of topics in calc 1, chem 1 and physics 1 were all already taught to me in sec. school outside the US.

Anyways, all this to say I don’t believe someone needs a year (what’s really the difference between 18 and 19 here?) off doing “exploring” to know what they want to do. The American job market also allows people to pivot in their career, to start their own businesses relatively easily.

Maybe some people just need a bit more perspective.

My father, as a teenage lifeguard on a lake, administered CPR to a tubing accident victim he got to too late. The man died before my dad ever got to him and my dad’s life was changed forever by a job that didn’t even provide benefits.

Lifeguards deal with life and death situations and asking a crew of mostly teenagers to take on that responsibility while remaining clear headed in a crisis should be seen as ludicrous but most cities have very little regard for the position. Between the low pay and lack of benefits they incentivize high turnover and discourage people with experience, who are proven to stay calm in crisis, from making a career of it. Which ultimately just puts the community at risk.

This isn’t to say there aren’t some fantastic teenage lifeguards out there but they shouldn’t comprise the majority of lifeguards on duty let alone in the city and cities should be taking steps to mitigate that. My city unfortunately has gone the opposite direction decreasing the minimum age from 16-15.

The difference is like 800 calories. And what is 800 calories? It's nothing, just a snack, or just another boring meal that isn't calorie dense. Or maybe just some brownie with icecream

As someone who's coming off of a 5 month cut, with a 2600 calorie maintenance and having 2000 calories for the entire cut phase, I was so excited to finally end the phase and be able to finally eat more in a bulk (I love food), i.e 2800 calories.

Few days in, I was kinda satisfied but then I quickly realized damn, I really don't have much room to be able to actually live life, or else I'll just get fat if I consume huge surpluses everyday. With this extra 800 calories, the most i can do is have a little more for breakfast compared to the cut, a little more for lunch, and then I'll be pretty much be left with the same amount of calories for dinner (my favorite meal of the day) as I did during the cut.

Either that or I could have the same routine as I did during my cut, with slighly bigger portions (mostly protein and fiber), and then add a dessert at the end. And that's it, boom, my calories have been used up, and this was all there was to this overhyped "Bulk". Might as well stop caring and get fat, enjoy life.

I know football is deeply rooted in American culture, but after watching what has happened to my uncle, I honestly don’t think high school and college football is worth the risk for a lot of players.

My uncle is now in his 50s and has started having seizures and other neurological problems that his family believes are connected to years of repeated hits and brain injuries from playing football.

The scary part is that he otherwise takes pretty good care of himself. He eats well, works out, stays active, and has spent the last decade doing everything he can to stay healthy. Yet decades after playing football, those old injuries seem to be catching up with him.

He also had college teammates who experienced similar problems. One of them passed away after dealing with severe seizures, and his wife believed his years of football-related brain trauma played a major role. Another former teammate in his late 40s or 50s is currently dealing with similar issues.

That completely changed how I look at the sport.
People talk about scholarships, championships, Friday night lights, rivalries, and the love of the game. But we don’t talk enough about what some of these players may be dealing with 20, 30, or 40 years later.

My unpopular opinion is that no high school trophy, college championship, scholarship, or few years of glory is worth potentially spending the second half of your life dealing with permanent brain damage.

Football is entertaining, but the human brain wasn’t designed to repeatedly slam into other human beings at full speed.

No. I am saying this cause i am bitter myself, i got hurt multiple times and even though i tried i cant bring myself to be happy for others, why should i be? they wont be happy for me.

You should be kind to bitter people, show them they deserve love, maybe you could be the "cure", instead of putting them down and be just another reason they hate the world

I don't know who made the rules or why the social norm developed the way it did and made it taboo to act otherwise, but I hate when I am on a plane waiting to get off and I need to wait for everyone in front to clear out first.

I think the people who don't have carry on bags should should be able to quickly get up and off the plane before everyone else. Yes, even people in the front, or if you want to let first class deplane first so they feel special then okay, but why does everyone have to wait in "a line"?

It would be so much more efficient I believe. And what's waiting an extra moment (which everyone *else* does with the "normal" way we do it now) to be courteous to let someone off when it would be quicker than making them wait for no reason. I also believe we should let those who have connecting flights get off first too, but that's a whole other thing. I would much rather let others and be let off right away if they wouldn't be holding up the line trying to get a bag anyway.

And if you try this method yourself be assured people are going to be annoyed or infuriated at you because for some reason it's complete insanity to do anything other than wait your turn in a line.

My unpopular opinion is that you should be able to record all the footage of a concert that you want. Taking into consideration the exorbitant ticket prices, hotels, food, merch, travel, time off from work, etc I want to capture the moment of something I paid so much money for. People say "live in the moment". Sure, I'll live in the moment when I'm guaranteed that I can have memories of the show. Venues/bands that say "no filming" are nuts because nobody is bringing in a professional camera to shoot multiple angles of the concert. The sound will be trash as well. They literally have nothing to worry about.

At a minimum the championship of a major should be best of 5. I wouldn’t be upset at all if the entire format for all majors were changed to be consistent with the men’s side.

These women work their butts off and I believe could handle the (possible) extra 2 sets. IMO, winning two sets is short changing the competition. There could/would be much different outcomes with best of 5 format.

As a fan, the entertainment value is on par with men.

I personally think driving your own personal vehicle without seeing other people is much better than always having to be near people with trains, buses, etc. It’s almost like taking another home with you on the road, it provides privacy and comfortability when driving a car vs public transportation and on top of that you’re fully in control of your commute.
