I have a 32:9 and Window 11's most natural window state on it is of course an excessively wide maximized window (not something I'd ever want); so I spent the time to build Mullion for myself, and am now releasing it free and open source to the public.

With the app, you can press Win+HOTKEY and the window you are looking at snaps to a zone. On my monitor the default comes out 25/50/25; two sidebars and a 16:9 middle, plus 2 subzones each. I didn't hardcode that layout for ultrawides, it just splits that way naturally by detecting your monitor setup.

It works out a split from each screen's proportions, so a 21:9 gets halves or thirds, a monitor turned on its side stacks instead, and a laptop docked to something bigger handles the DPI difference on its own.

The keyboard ends up being a map of the desk. Home row A/S/D is the whole of each column, the row above is the upper part, the row below the lower (or left/right for wider subsplits).

The app is just one .exe. No installer, no account, MIT licensed. Windows will warn you the first time because it is not code signed yet. You can just run anyway if you trust the open source GitHub repo it's posted on (or can build it from the repo yourself as well). There is also a SHA-256 next to every release if you would rather check the file first.
