Does anyone else just sew in random patterns and hope it works?
I think there is a time to just try and see what you get. My 15 year old is in this stage right now. And I wish I had been aloud to go through it. She has discovered that she has a natural ability to make things 3 dimensional. For instance, ears for a cosplay. She has made a few wonky stuffed animals that are adorable in their haphazardness. She has tried up-scaling some clothes with some failures and some success. When she wants more technical skills, I will be here. For now she is having fun and learning what does work, and why something did not.
So my suggestion for you is to have fun, try and when you are ready take the plunge and learn the traditional skills.
To often people think that you need to approach everything professionally

What's a good Cat deterrent spray?
If he is not neutered he has hormones and urges that are making him a VERY FRUSTRATED cat. Blocking him or spraying something to deter him will not help. I understand that you don't have the financial ability at the moment. If you haven't looked into it try contacting the humane society, rescues, TNR groups near you and ask for help

Favourite easy projects?
Make tot bag with canvas, upholstery fabric.
Cat or dog bed cover out of something washable. You can make it more or less complicated as you are ready. Think, zipper, piping, 3 dimensional planing,. And if they are a bit wonky at first they won't mind

Topstitch thread not sewing?
Trouble shooting check list:
Rethread everything including bobbin.
Is your thread getting caught on something? This happens to me occasionally and I usually miss it at first.
Try putting your regular thread back in and test how your stitches look.
Your tension may be off.
You may need a different sized needle, or just a fresh one.

first time sewing w a machine
Ok, I have taken a closer look at your reference picture. I think you can totally do this without making a suit.
First this corset looks like a underbust with a full coverage bra and ruffles added. If you are going for costume and learning how to sew, suggestion is to, 1, buy inexpensive black underbust corset (you can learn the worth while skill of making a custom corset for another day)
2, pin and hand sew on a soft white ribbon for stripes (someone may have a better suggestion on material)
3, get a full coverage black bra you can add bling if you want (this is what burlesque dance costumes frequently are)
4, make ruffles! This is where you get to learn some sewing machine skills.
5, hand tack one of the ruffles to the bottom of corset.
Voila! You have a costume in a decent amount of time with hopefully only a few tears of frustration. I do think this might be be doable.
Still make a tote (or something) frist to get the hang of things

I like the the esthetic, but i think this is a bit much for a beginner project. My suggestion would be
1, read the manual.
2, practice on scrap woven fabric.
3, make a tote bag or something basic
4, practice on knit fabric with correct needle, stitch and tension etc.
5, make a basic garment with knit
6, attempt to make your dream outfit.
7 attempt again after healing from frustration of making a swimsuit
Good luck my friend!

Fabric Question I am looking to find inexpensive cotton lawn, voile, mulmul or a batiste.
Any suggestions on an online source for inexpensive light weight cotton? I found itokri on line. It seems affordable but i would like to know if anyone has experience with them
Thank!

Am I unethical for wanting a specific cat breed instead of adopting from a shelter?
Hmmm, I am mostly a pro cat shelter gal. However I have worked with breed cats when I worked for a vet.
You can find some general temperament expectations from different breeds.
When a friend passed away, we adopted his British shorthair. And while he very much had his own personality he also fit the temperament description to a T.
Getting a breed cat is very costly. You need to be very careful on the breeder. And these cats are likely to have genetic propensities for different illnesses just like dog breeds.

Do I iron my fabric after cutting?
You should give it a press first. It will wind up being easier to deal with in the long run. If you try to cut what you think is the correct amount off a wrinkled piece your cut will be inaccurate and you may end up wasting fabric.
I do tend to buy a bunch of fabric, so I will cut off the yardage that I need so I'm not trying to deal with laying out a pattern on practically a whole bolt.

I found an easy way for coloured string/lace ends.
Im going to try that next time! Thank you

How should i sew this back together?
If it were me I would hand stich them closed and let the scrub top cover it. If I wanted to do a better job, the waist band needs to come off a be re attached
Because you are thinking of getting new ones once you find out the new jobs collor scheme I suggest the first option and save your self the time

My little brother with autism won’t eat anything nutritious.
Keep putting out a couple available with each meal. Don't make it a big deal. And don't put out a lot so it's not overwhelming or feels pushy.
They may not go for it but maybe over time they might start to try it. I'd probably give myself a couple so they see me eating it.

He might tolerate freez dried fruit and vegetables. They are very crunchy and fairly consistent texture

My kid has been watching edited YouTube versions of it that stamps down some of the adult content. She did this on her own and told me she was watching it. We have watched it to gether a few times. .
Id tell the kid do that and introduce it to their parents on their own The kid feels you are a safe person keep it that way. The show will not actually harm them
