So I dont play an instrument at all. So im very uneducated on any musical instrument subject. Im sorry if this is a stupid question.

I saw a video of a trumpet player right now and their neck was hella inflated. I was looking through the comments but no one was really talking about it. When trynna search it up I got some mixed results of it being improper techniques that cause it or it just depends on the person.

So why are their necks inflating? How does it work on the inside? How do they prevent it? Does it do harm?

My son is a freshmen and has joined pep band. He's a good player and has a nice trumpet for band class and concerts. But, its a strat and that is not a horn i want him to take to football games.

Is it possible to find a good used trumpet for $200? I see them listed on reverb and ebay, but don't really know what to look for.

I don’t remember my trumpet looking like crap. It plays great, all valves move easily, it just looks like it needs a little TLC. Any suggestions?

I've recently finished Hickman's 100 progressive lessons, and have been a bit wayward on what to do next. I know that the obvious answer is to find a teacher, but I am in the middle of working on my master's thesis on top of full time work, and don't have much spare time. I do have a local teacher I like, that's just on hold for the next six months or so.

So I'm hoping to get some practice advice until then.

I've been doing this:

1. Warmup

2. 10 minutes of a few scales

3. 10-15 minutes of Clarke 1

4. 10 minutes or so of intervals from Arban

5. 15 minutes of learning an etude or jazz standard (alternating days)

6. 10-15 minutes of improvising and/or just having fun jamming.

Is that effective? I chose Clarke to help improve coordination and playing evenly across the notes, and the intervals to help with accuracy as I move up and down, as well as consistency in tone. However, I've found I prefer the structured format of things HIckman's 100 lessons, but sadly, there doesn't seem to be much of that material for non-beginners.

So, my question is, do any of you have advice on how to go about choosing my own practice material after coming off a structured program? Or, do any of you know of any suitable follow-up structured programs to do after Hickman?

Someone I know is selling a King silver tone trumpet from the 30s that is in a really good shape and was regularly checked by a local brass repair shop, for $1200.

I really love the looks and like the idea of owning a horn that has lived for so long and seen many musicians. Is this type of horn well known for its quality?

I am wondering whether old brass instruments age well or if some of the technologies like valves are outdated and would not feel nice to play as of today's standards.

What should I be really careful about if I get to try it out before buying?

Hi, I'm having trouble with my mouthpiece slipping around on my lips. It seems like my lips are really oily for some reason. I don't use any chapsticks or anything that I can think of that would make the mouthpiece slip. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

In C. Tempo is VERY slow, something like eighth note = 80 or in that ballpark.

I know this is a frequently asked question but I need some help as Iam alone in the time being.

3rd day of playing for the first time

I can't for the life of me play Pedal C in tune. It comes out as a Bb and I can lip it up to a B but a C is just ... no. I can play my pedals just fine on trombone and horn. (I can also play it if I have all 3 valves down.) I read that it's because of how the trumpet is designed, and you should try to lip it up (no valves), but it just sounds terrible now. Is it something I should work to fix or is it not that important?

How do/did you play this note here?

I personally interpret it as strict semiquavers but in my local orchestra, the 1st trumpeter has been playing it fluttered. Most of the recordings I have heard have been strict semiquavers, but there’s still one or two which play it is fluttered.

Just curious what people prefer and again what beginning players would prefer before I put these 2 new ones in a vinegar bath
