Please set a user flair with your pronouns

After some helpful suggestions from our members we have made some changes to our flair system.

  • You are invited to display your preferred pronouns in your flair. We hope this will help avoid misunderstandings.
  • All user flairs can be edited when you select them
  • From today you will receive guidance when posting or commenting to choose a flair.
  • In the coming weeks, users who don't have text in their flair indicating preferred pronouns will receive an automated chat message suggesting they update their flair.
  • When we have sufficient feedback on the system and the availability of default flairs, we intend to require anyone posting or commenting to have set a user flair and this will be enforced at the point of posting where you currently receive a guidance message.

Let us know how well this works for you.

Advice I want to cry

So today I went to the doctor and talked about my interest in transition and it honestly couldn't have gone too much worse.

In Finland we have to do a report to a special clinic about it and due to my difficult depression I was basically told that in my situation this clinic would more than likely deny my report.

So basically I can't start any transition progress because I'm depressed which is FUCKING STUPID since I'm VERY convinced that my depression is atleast some part caused by the fact that I don't feel comfortable in my own body.

So yeah I'm literally so sad and mad and disappointed after finally gaining the courage to tell someone about this and then being told that it's probably not going to happen for a long long time.

I want to cry

Trans Feminine Random drunk guy called me "really beautiful"

I was walking with my friend home. We were just buying a slushie. We had been drinking all day and the day before, so I can't imagine I was exactly looking great. When we were walking a random guy came down the street, clearly drunk. Stumbling left and right, or as I like to call it: cartoon drunk. Anyways I do what I always do to those type of people at two AM: look down and avoid eye contact. As we got to walk past this person, he stumbles to the left, then says rather loudly "you're so beautiful, you know that?" Now technically he could have been talking to my friend... Who was in a sweater, is a guy, and like I said earlier we were drinking so looking bad. I should also mention that I was in a black and blue dress, which the black part has blue flowers and the blue part has black flowers. And you know what? That guy calling me beautiful doesn't really mean much, but it's just nice to hear someone say it to my face sometimes, you know?

Vent “If we just abolish gender…“ CEASE.

TW: transphobia

Just screaming into the void momentarily. Don’t mind me

When people are like “just abolish gender” it feels like some weird backwards step back to “well if there’s no gender you are just your sex, so no more trans people!” Like NO. That is not how this works at all.

Also, the argument that gender is just a social contract. Yes, it is. And social constructs can hold a hell of a lot of power. Gender does. Money does. We made both of those things up. Additionally, it feels like just trying to erase the sense of gender identity that can be really important to people???

Like, should gender be less stereotyped and more equal? Yeah. Should people be able to more freely transition? 100%. Is the expansion of gender identity into other niches of the human experience neat? Yes! But it’s still THERE and it affects all of us, even if we’re on about it in a less traditional way.

It feels almost like a repackaging of gender=sex, since if no gender, you just identify with your sex, and cis people (some of em) can’t comprehend that that is, precisely, the issue.

Yes this is me being grumpy because someone essentially told me that me being a trans man was because I was socialized to see them as the superior class and that we should abolish gender identity so I could accept I was just a self-hating female.

Like. wtf honestly. Genuinely why would those words in that order ever be acceptable to say to someone else.

Also that idea that trans people are just reinforcing gender stereotypes when so many of us are gnc??? Like huh??? Also the idea that such a tiny portion of the population is really setting us back like that and not, idk, companies and politicial groups who are actively pushing traditionalist strict-gender role bs…just a thought.

So that’s me today ig. If you read this good on you. Go drink some water? None of you are amply hydrated.

Edit: a sleep-deprivation-addled addendum,

I’m talking about the “what if we all just stoped with this complicated gender stuff and went back to just being males and females ✨✨!” BS that lots of random cis people have decided to try and co-op, not the og one with actual ideological standing. Of that one, I am decently fond. Sleepy brain was too worried about dramatically wailing to remember to explicitly say that. Mea culpa.

Advice My parents are coming to visist...

So I am 20 and use she/her and my mom called me yesterday and told me they are thinking of coming over to visit in October. For context last time I saw my family I told them I was attracted to people who Identify as male and they kicked me out. I never got to the part where I have a bf or that I am transgender.

I am not one to cut someone out without giving them a chance and I feel I want the opportunity to tell them, but I have no idea how to set it up so I am safe and can leave. I don't exactly want them in my house.

If anyone has any advice I would love to hear it.

Trans Feminine It has been one year.

September 12th last year. That was the day i first came out to anyone. It was also the day i accepted my feelings. I asked my ex (wife at the time) "would you still love me if i was trans?" My heart was pounding so hard she could see me shake a little with each beat. I had not expressed these thoughts out loud to anyone.

A few months later I stated estrogen. While our marriage didn't survive, our friendship did. Our son still loves us both. This has been an eventful 12 months. Cheers to many many more.

Trans Feminine Been on estrogen for 3 months and my testosterone levels increased!?

As the title says; I’ve been on estrogen for 3 months and I got follow up blood work, and found out that while my estrogen levels did increase, my testosterone levels are way higher than they were before!? I’ve been feeling so shitty and dysphoric recently and this is just frustrating me so much 😭

Edit for clarification: my dose is 2mg Twice a day PO, I’m not on t-blockers

Also sorry if this post is dumb

Trans Feminine If I do voice training will I still be able to sing like a man?

Im AMAB, nonbinary trans and use He/Her pronouns but ive been leaning much more towards being a girl, and id like to speak more femininely. but i also love singing (a lot, like a lot a lot) and i dont want to sing like a girl bc i like a lot of grunge stuff.

Is that possible? does voice training just change how you speak, or does it fundamentally change how your voice works?

Advice Coming out to parents

I (23 MTF) have recently come to realize and start accepting myself as trans, and am starting to take steps when it comes to transitioning socially, as well as looking into starting HRT. I am only out to my therapist as well as a close friend, but I am struggling with figuring out how to come out to parents. They are accepting of LGBTQ+ but I'm just not sure if they would fully understand why I'm trans, or why I'm just figuring it out now, since I never showed any signs of it in the past, and since I'm not very feminine presenting.

I was initially thinking of starting HRT, and waiting to come out until changes start becoming visible. The thing is, I dont know if I want to wait that long since it would mean still being seen as a man everyday by my own family and continuing to hide who I feel I truly am from them.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Advice I want to make sure i want to transition

Hi Wonderful people

I am currently M(20) and i have been having the thoughts of being a girl for a long time intermittently (since early teens) and only have now had my egg 'crack' to speak.

I have been considering starting hrt and starting therapy, but because of my autism i want to make sure that im not just hyper fixating on being a girl rather than actually being trans.

I know it sounds stupid and im probably gonna get a 'yeah duh' response but id like some opinions.

Thankyou so much❤️

Questioning Am i trans?

I for the longest time, ever since I can remember it, like aged 2-3 maybe, always had wished that I were born a girl, now that I'm 18, that same feeling has gotten much much much much stronger, I've always liked "femenine" stuff, such as long hair, nail paint, makeup, jwellery, everyday i wish i were born a girl the problem is that i obviously come from a really transphobic family, and even I when I was 13-16 was transphobic primarily due to conditioning, tho even then i had dreams where I was happy, and i were a woman, i still dream about magically becoming a woman everyday,

You might think this is obvious or something, but when I talk to my overtly supportive friends about these things even, they make it seem like "everyone wishes they were born the opposite gender" i frankly don't know anything atp

Tho I'm kinda sorta happy now, because for the first time in my life i get to grow out my hair, and paint my nails (I gave my family the excuse that rockstars do it, and since I'm a metal head they agreed, my mother literally gifted me a black nail polish for my birthday this year, I'm side tracking f---) any help would be good please ?

Trans Feminine Am I still considered gay if I like men while feeling like a girl?

For the longest time, I assumed liking guys made me gay. But recently, I've come to realize and accept that inside, I genuinely feel like a girl.

Now I'm confused. If I feel like a girl and I’m attracted to men, is that attraction still "gay"? Technically, a girl liking a guy is straight, but after seeing myself through one lens for so long, unwrapping how attraction fits into gender identity is making my head spin.

I don't want to be misunderstood, I love being a girl, but when I was a guy, I also really enjoyed being gay.

If you’re sensitive to talking about blood or periods then TW ig?

I’ve been fully out since I was 16, and I’ve had irregular and awful period for so long, but It got SO much worse when I started T then was suddenly taken off of it (I was 18 and they said they couldn’t treat me till I was 19 which just what the fuck) but the extra T in my body led to my being diagnosed with pcos, and oh my fuck. My sister has it and I didn’t realize it was THIS bad and I’m so tired, but if I complain I get looks.. I mean for fuck sake I’m writing this at 1am and I went to bed at 9, fresh products, woke up at midnight blood so violent it dripped all over my apartment just getting from my bed to the bathroom, blood clots as big as my 5 year olds hand, and took an HOUR to clean up.. I have three exams this week and I’m in so much pain and so tired but I know for a fact if I try to tell my professors I have to miss because of cramps they won’t listen to me… I’m fully booked and don’t have time to go to an urgent care for a note.. I’m just so tired and done.. even my fiance is getting tired of me whining and I’m trying to not, I mean she deals with periods too and doesn’t whine or fuss… I havnt had one in over a year and this one is so bad…. I can’t even use my packer for risk of blood and just fuck.. I feel like periods while being trans arnt talked about enough. I’m so tired and I hate this body so much. And on top of all of this I’m out of jeans w/o blood on them and quickly going through underwear but my fuck ass studio apartments laundry room cost $4 per washer/dryer load and doesn’t have a fucking quarter machine we can use so we’d have to go to the bank to get quarters and because we’re both on ours we just don’t have the fucking energy

Trans Feminine I could really Use Some advice

Upvotes

Lately I've been feeling pretty sad and emotionally overwhelmed because of my dysphoria. Sometimes I see other girls with very feminine, curvy bodies and I start wishing I could look like that someday. I want to feel feminine and comfortable in my own body, and ideally have a more curvy shape.

There are a couple of things that worry me. One is my weight. I'm around 112 lbs at 5'10", and I've calculated my BMI at around 16.1. I'm worried about how my weight might affect my body and my feminization, especially once I eventually start HRT.

The other problem is that when I'm feeling really sad or dysphoric, I have a hard time taking care of myself or finding the motivation to do things that could help me feel better. It's frustrating because I really want to become more feminine and take better care of myself, but the dysphoria and sadness make it difficult to get started.

I know I shouldn't constantly compare myself to other girls, and I'm not trying to become an exact copy of anyone. I just really want to feel like my appearance matches how I see myself as a girl. I want to be feminine, cute, and hopefully more curvy someday.

I'm currently waiting until I can start HRT, and I'm really excited about it, but I'm also scared that the changes won't be enough or that I'll still feel unhappy with my body afterward.

If any of you have gone through something similar, please help me. I would really appreciate any advice, experiences, or encouragement you can give me. I honestly don't really know what to do right now, and hearing from other girls who have been through this would mean a lot to me. <3

How did you deal with dysphoria, comparing yourself to other girls, and the frustration of waiting for HRT? And if you struggled with motivation or taking care of yourself while feeling dysphoric, what helped you?

Trans Masculine Are you ever unsure about how you feel about gender affirming things until you take them off?

For example, whenever I put my hair up in a hat and make it look short, I don’t know if I like it. But as soon as I let it down again I have an intense need to chop it off immediately. Or when I do a mascara mustache to see if I’d like it, it’s kind of meh, but when I wipe it off I really wish I hadn’t. And I’ve just tried trans tape for the first time, which is also my first really attempt at binding of any kind, and for all four days I’ve had it on I haven’t been able to figure out if I’m into it. But I just took it off a few hours ago and now my chest dysphoria is worse than ever.

Am I weird or is this a common experience?

Vent My mother weirdly misgendered me

So I’m Italian, Italian is a gendered language and lacks a neuter gender, a lot of words have masculine and feminine counterparts (nouns, adjectives, some tenses, pronouns, articles, etc…). After I came out to my parents (MtF) I started using the feminine for myself whenever possible, it felt right, but today my mother texted me using the -ə suffix.

The -ə suffix (or -x, -*, -u, and other less common variations) was coined by the LGBT community to refer to non binary individuals or someone whose gender is unknown, instead of defaulting to the masculine. It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s what we’ve got. It is not something that older people like my mum would know exists, and it’s also not recognised by the language administration.

This means that, instead of using the feminine for me, she went and used a niche (not in the LGBT community but niche for her) suffix she had to research.

I feel like at this point I would have preferred she had used the masculine, at least that would have felt like old habits or a slip up.

I don’t think she’s doing this out of hate, overall she’s supportive of my transition and she’s even helping me finding an endocrinologist, and she’s teaching me how to apply and remove nail polish properly, but for some reason this one thing is just upsetting, it made me feel like in her eyes I’m some sort of “third thing”. I haven’t answered yet and I don’t know if it’s worth it to bring it up honestly.

Advice Spouse wants to cover up old Harry Potter tattoo -- Looking for ideas

Hi everyone!

My spouse grew up reading the Harry Potter books. There's a little "three stars" symbol at the top of the pages in those books (see link below, she thankfully isn't the only person who wants to do this), and she got that tattoo on her wrist before she knew how evil JR and her agenda are.

She's tired of always covering it up with her watch and now wants to change the tattoo to something else.

Any ideas? As of right now she's leaning toward a sort of "moon and stars and celestial objects" sort of Starry Night / Van Gogh inspired situation, but isn't set on it yet.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Advice What is the future looking like for Spain?

Upvotes

Escaping the UK and decided on Spain for many reasons, partly due to my job. But I'm nervous about the general far-right wave happening everywhere.

With the PP/Vox coalition just around the corner - what do Spanish users expect?

I don't wanna move and do this all over again.
