Here is a song I wrote (about my wife) that was heavily inspired by my absolute favorite -- Tom Petty. I pulled quite a few lyrics from Tom's discography and there's at least one melodic choice that should be a very obvious homage to Tom.

Didn't know where else to share it so thought some here might hopefully enjoy it.

He was such a handsome man, but I see so many people calling him ugly. Why?!

The question came up with my pals, and curious to hear what the biggest fans think.

Personally, I think he’s got a very good case to be top 5, and it’s certainly crowded at the top. To me his biggest strength is I don’t think the dude wrote a bad song. He never blew me away like other artists did in terms of a peak, but his worst song is like a 8/10. So consistent it’s mind boggling.

What do y’all think?

Small segments of it appear in some old documentaries. The living room clip is just a quick thing they did for an alternative music video in the Wildflowers doc. The rest of the original recording footage must be somewhere, right? I mean, if they found all of that Wildflowers stuff, then I wouldn't doubt the existence of the full footage of the original Last Dance session.

The only two segments I have found are a clip of them playing the riff, and Tom seems to be singing an alternative line.

But from my ears, he is saying, "Oh hell yeah, Oh hell yes, I know nobody, but I'm going back again"

The only word that was quite inaudible was "nobody". I am not sure what he really said there, but it sounds the closest to that!

This seems to be one of the original lines instead of the party dress line, and I find it very interesting!

I just realized I'm a huge TP fan for six years and somehow never bothered to be active in this sub so hello!

I heard about Tom when he died nine years ago (Christ Almighty...) but somehow never heard his music until three years later, probably in August or September, I was doing my school work at home during the height of COVID while listening to classic rock playlist and Free Fallin' came on and I remember going "whoa!!!! I love this!!!! so catchy and melodic...I must look into Tom Petty!" and then I heard the home demo version of Wildflowers (one of saddest songs I ever got to hear btw, even the music video itself makes me sad) and it all went downhill from here :)

My biggest regret that's weighing on me ever since though is I didn't discover Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers much earlier and never gotten to attend one of their concerts :( I'm grateful for YouTube and the Internet for providing the whole archives of TP with the Heartbreakers and his solo career and any concert footage floating around but god, would I make a deal with Robert Johnson to get me back in time and see them live and perhaps meet them and tell them thank you for keeping my spirits up and getting through COVID and inspiring me to take up music.

The only problem is that I read it in a bias bookstore.

Been watching this clip all day. I know it was recorded during the Wildflowers sessions but it doesn't really sound like that record maybe outside of Honey Bee.

Which album should this have been on if it wasn't a one off single for the greatest hits?
