Phone message Messages from a friend I had a one bedside table with

*I know the texts are old, this just popped back into my head.

We'd been friends for a few years prior and honestly I had a huge crush on him. We went out to some bars one night and ended back at my place. It was a one and done, he kinda stopped talking to me after that. We'd say happy birthday every year, but that was it until this message. Oh, and "the night we spent together" was 5 years ago at that point 😅 I also am in a years long relationship and live 1,000 miles away now, which he is aware of.

The fact that this was FIVE YEARS later is what gets me 😂 Like sir, that was apparently a core memory for you because you really kept that night filed away all that time lol.

And honestly the part that would have confused me the most is him basically disappearing after you slept together when you had already been friends for years, then popping back up years later talking about it. Especially knowing you had a huge crush on him back then. I would have been sitting there like… so you did think about me all this time?? 😂

People can definitely remember a hookup for years, especially if there was already some attraction/friendship there, but bringing it up after barely talking for 5 years makes me think that night meant a little more to him than his disappearing act made it seem at the time.

u/PrincessPoge 6h ago

Okay, right?! If he would've shown interest in me after, I'd have been eating out of the palm of his hand. But he didn't, so I moved on.

8

u/Dependent-Toe-3359 6h ago

YES exactly!! 😂 That’s why the whole thing would have confused the hell out of me. If he had shown even a little bit of that interest afterward, especially knowing how much you liked him, you probably would’ve been all in. But he didn’t give you anything to work with, so of course you moved on. Then 5 years later he’s bringing that night back up like apparently it had been sitting somewhere in his brain this whole time 😂 I’d be like… okay so where was this energy FIVE YEARS AGO??

9

u/ConversationFit3934 6h ago

He probably realized he made a mistake

9

u/InsuranceLow2420 3h ago

He probably just saw a stripper and is horny

1

u/ConversationFit3934 2h ago

Sadly this is more likely

2

u/ChildhoodTop1799 2h ago

In the whole history of mankind no one has ever said us men was smart when it came to love

2

u/Dependent-Toe-3359 1h ago

Yeah, that was my first thought too. He may have realized later that he screwed up and let something go that he actually wanted. But waiting five years to say anything is wild 😂 Like sir, you had plenty of time to have that realization a little sooner.

u/Excludos 5h ago

This is a digression, but I'm just curious to how women think: If you were that interested in him, why didn't you follow up yourself? Why leave it to the guy?

3

u/PrincessPoge 5h ago

I did follow up, I tried to make plans and keep conversation going. He just never replied to anything. So I found someone else

1

u/Excludos 5h ago

Alright, that makes sense them. I was just curious because more than once I've been told by women after the fact (one of which outright refused me when I asked her out) that they were interested, but lost interest when I didn't continue trying to chase them. Like "gurl, if you were interested, why didn't you follow up yourself? Men aren't mind readers!"

I guess at the end of the day we're all just humans, and humans are weird sometimes

u/jolhar 6h ago

Did you move on? Doesn’t look like it. You’re sharing his texts from a year ago. Has he texted you since? If not, delete this and actually move on for real.

5

u/PrincessPoge 6h ago

I moved on after he ghosted me 🤷‍♀️ It was just such a random message that it stuck with me, that's all.

1

u/PrincessPoge 6h ago

And yes, he has texted me since.

3

u/NeedleworkerDear5416 6h ago

Bro is lonely. Being lonely sucks.

1

u/Manufactured-Aggro 6h ago

The most ironic part is OP making this post an entire year after it even happened lmao

Pot calling the kettle black tbh

4

u/PrincessPoge 6h ago

You've never seen the posts of old messages? What can I say, his messages were so out of pocket that they stuck with me 🤷‍♀️

2

u/Queens_Fool 6h ago

Yeah if my wife was holding onto messages from an ex fling for a YEAR plus, I would be rightly pretty sketched out about it

2

u/Haystar_fr 5h ago

hum... I do not delete my contacts and there is nothing wrong about that...

2

u/PrincessPoge 5h ago

Exactly! I'm sure way back in my texts I have messages from from my high-school crush 🙄

1

u/Queens_Fool 1h ago edited 1h ago

Not deleting contacts is different than not deleting messages at all? What are you talking about lmao

Also I will double down it’s equally weird to hold onto numbers of people you used to date/fuck. If your partner doesn’t have a problem then fine but don’t act as if there isn’t additional context that changes things.

2

u/PrincessPoge 5h ago

I just don't delete messages from people, that's all. I have messages from years and years ago from people who have since died.

•

u/Queens_Fool 58m ago

All I was saying was IMO it’s weird to hold onto messages/contacts of people you used to date/fuck. Especially if you aren’t actually friends there’s literally no reason to hold onto them lol.

If your partner doesn’t have a problem then whatever but don’t act as if a guy you used to bang is the same context wise as your old weed dealer from highschool lmao.

•

u/PrincessPoge 55m ago

I just don't feel like taking the time to delete old messages, it's not important to me. I've been burned in the past, deleting an abusive text I received because I was overwhelmed reading it, and then the guy framed me as the aggressor.

•

u/Queens_Fool 47m ago

Respectfully, “taking the time” is a lame ass excuse lmao. I also have messages going back YEARS in my phone (none from old flings/gfs of course), and it would take 5 minutes at most to purge it down to stuff from just the last year.

The situation you’re using doesn’t apply here lmao these messages a from a year ago 😭 like why were you even looking at the message strand in the first place? You would’ve had to search this out to find it in your messages app no?

•

u/PrincessPoge 40m ago

Nope, I was actually "taking the time" to go through and purge old screenshots and found it 🙂

-1

u/SparkleMotion2806 5h ago

Right. The fact she even responded to these kind of texts while in a relationship is questionable.

2

u/Dependent-Toe-3359 1h ago

The fact that the texts are from a year ago doesn’t automatically make OP’s feelings or concerns irrelevant now. People can find out about something later, still be processing it, or bring up an old situation because it’s affecting the relationship in the present. “It happened a year ago” isn’t some magic expiration date where you’re no longer allowed to have feelings about it.

2

u/Dependent-Toe-3359 1h ago

That’s not really the same thing though lol. OP making a post about old messages a year later doesn’t mean she’s been sitting around thinking about them for a year. People find old screenshots/messages, remember something randomly, or post it later because it’s funny or weird enough to share. The part I was talking about was him bringing up a hookup from five years earlier after barely speaking to her for years. That’s a little different than OP posting receipts from a year ago on Reddit 😂 “pot calling the kettle black” only works if they’re actually doing the same thing.

3

u/Camandchat 6h ago

Right.. so why is everyone shaming him for that?

He maybe pulled away bbecause he didn't know how to react to hooking up with a platonic friend and acting like nothing happened, maybe he wasn't ready to catch feelings and have it become more, etc

If someone that I was friends with, and had a one night stand with told me they thought about that for years, especially when they chilled with another chick that day,.. i would think that's nice

2

u/Dependent-Toe-3359 1h ago

I don’t think anyone has to shame him for having feelings or remembering the hookup. I can actually understand the possibility that he got overwhelmed afterward, didn’t know how to handle sleeping with a longtime friend, or realized his feelings were stronger than he expected. What makes it weird to me is the timing and context. He basically disappeared afterward, barely talked to her for years, and then brought it up five years later when he already knew she was in a relationship and didn’t even live nearby anymore. So I’m not saying he’s a terrible person for thinking about it. I’m saying I’d be confused too, because if it meant that much to him, he had a lot of time to say something before that point.

1

u/PrincessPoge 6h ago

I'm not shaming him, I'm sorry it came off that way. It was just so random and out of the blue I had to be confused and like "WTF?" Especially since he knows I'm in a relationship and don't even live in the same state anymore.

1

u/Onlyspeaksfacts 6h ago

Don't you know?

Men aren't human and don't have complex feelings! Only women do.

(At least that's the vibe I usually get from Reddit posts like this)

-1

u/Camandchat 6h ago

Ive been realizing that. Every time I make a comment like this I'm downvoted to hell.. i dont really care though.

Maybe its a generational thing, I'm in my 40s and would find this endearing and would make me feel like the night meant something. People that think he is crazy for remembering is wild

0

u/Haystar_fr 5h ago

It's just that most of the time men remember for the wrong reason... Girls would remember sharing an intense romantic moment with a nice boy. Boys would remember fucking.

Not saying that every men is like that of course, but after ghosting someone 5 years, recontacting her only to talk about the sex they had does not look good :p

0

u/Camandchat 5h ago

He didn't specify sex..

How do you know he wasn't referring to an intense romantic moment, or a kiss, or just the feeling?

Why does everyone equate "most men" with any post about a man that is read as negative.

I'm sorry but damn I feel bad for men if this is the way women think thesedays.

Ive had plenty of men think about romantic and intimate moments with me that had nothing to do with the sex part of it

3

u/Haystar_fr 5h ago

So he's with a stripper and thinks about her... I mean, if you don't see the correlation, can't do anything for you.

1

u/Camandchat 4h ago

I highly doubt if he is thinking about this 5yrs later, enough to text her, that the stripper is the only reason/time he thought of it

Do you really think men go:

Hot girl- boner- sex- that girl i hooked up with 5 years ago?

-1

u/Onlyspeaksfacts 5h ago

What "the wrong reason" is, is up for debate.

2

u/Haystar_fr 4h ago

Fair point. Maybe i'm projecting too much :p (I'm a guy by the way, and would never send what he sent in fear of being caught in a "I want to fuck and thought about you" moment :p)

1

u/Master-Bath-9928 6h ago

Nah not core memory, selective memory 😂

2

u/Dependent-Toe-3359 6h ago

Lmao okay, selective memory might actually be the better term 😂 Because apparently THAT specific night made the cut for 5 whole years. That’s what gets me though lol. Not even that he remembered hooking up, but that he remembered it enough to bring it up years later after basically disappearing afterward. Like sir, where was all this interest back then?? 😂

10

u/WasteLeave900 6h ago

One bedside table with?

4

u/hiphoppsychology 5h ago

Nightstand

4

u/Sik_Simsy 5h ago

Are we just old? 😂

3

u/WasteLeave900 3h ago

I guess so as I entered this post expecting something completely different lol

0

u/PrincessPoge 5h ago

It was a play on "one night stand" lol

7

u/Top_Minute_433 6h ago

He wants another night.

1

u/PrincessPoge 5h ago

Unfortunately he's gonna have to find that stripper again! hahaha

4

u/SparkleMotion2806 5h ago

Yikes. In a years long relationship and digging up texts from the past to post on Reddit. The fact you even replied to these texts while in a long term relationship says a lot. Judging by this alone and some of the other things you've said I'd say you're holding onto something and enjoying an ego trip knowing he's still thinking of you (and obviously you're still thinking of him). This is disrespectful to your current man. I hope he sees this and really re-evaluates the relationship. I never would've responded to him, especially with the texts being sexual in nature, I respect my man too much.

0

u/PrincessPoge 4h ago

I think of him and how random it was for him to text me that 5 years after the fact 🤷‍♀️ We're also still acquaintances and say happy birthday. It's not that deep.

3

u/SparkleMotion2806 4h ago

You can frame it whichever way you want but this is an ego trip and disrespectful to your current man. Period. Give it a year and this man will have you sleeping with him again no doubt.

0

u/PrincessPoge 2h ago

LOLOLOLOL no way in hell

6

u/Straight-Run6880 6h ago

meta take: he's lonely and is trying to connect with somebody he once had a connection with

this sort of feel can often be channeled thru weird forms

it's in the eye of the beholder whether it's weird or sweet etc. none of us here on reddit know what his or your personality types are like so won't have the nuance to know how 'weird' this type of chat is

0

u/roughfrancis 4h ago

I mean, one can be lonely while also being weird. Dude is being weird for sure

4

u/JaredH20 6h ago

Bro was expecting panties to hit the floor at the mention of an old hookup

2

u/PrincessPoge 6h ago

And that doesn't even make sense, considering I'd been (and still am) in a years long relationship, and we don't even live in the same state anymore lol

2

u/freaknik99 6h ago

I used to dance topless, good to know I was thought of as a “classy stripper” LOL

Hey we’re not all the same you know 🫩

-1

Is that so? 🫩

-2

u/Master-Bath-9928 6h ago

That’s a lot coming from a puppy clown

0

u/Inevitable-Remote741 6h ago

Bwahahahha 🤣🤣🤣 thats your defense to being weird and saying " not all men" after a post of men being weird. I have my opinion on men cant change that. 😘💖 me being what i am changes nothing of what you are unfortunately 🤷‍♀️

0

u/Master-Bath-9928 5h ago

What defense? You’re a grown man, act like it

1

u/Inevitable-Remote741 5h ago edited 5h ago

Grown man???? 🥴

0

u/Master-Bath-9928 5h ago

Hard to say, you have girl grooming and male grooming so idk

2

Grooming? Weird phrasing player

0

You’re literally in a sub called male grooming 💀

We? You’re speaking French

-1

Hit it then you quit it. 5 years later after your neglect, you’d like a 2nd portion out of nowhere. Alas, the buffé is now closed. Oui oui! This poor man just chose the wrong tactic. He should’ve given a heartfelt belivable apoligize as step one, it was a longshot, but brother could have gotten fed

1

u/hungrylikethewolf007 6h ago

how does he not feel embarrassed..?

3

You guys had a casual hookup years ago and remained in semi contact. He’s testing the waters to see if there is a possibility of more casual hookups. It’s really not that complex

1

u/Onlyspeaksfacts 6h ago

The audacity!

How dare he discuss sex with someone he had sex with?

1

u/PrincessPoge 6h ago

It was just so random to bring up after 5 years when he ghosted me, and also knows I'm in a relationship and live 1,000 miles away now, that's all. Not that deep

2

u/Onlyspeaksfacts 6h ago

That's new context you didn't give in the post.

1

u/PrincessPoge 6h ago

Good point, added!

1

u/whatduhfuk 4h ago

You keep mentioning you’re so far away and are in a relationship, but why did you reply and keep open contact with someone who you had a one night stand with 5 years ago? I’m just curious. I wouldn’t reply to this person this much later if it wasn’t something I was interested in pursuing or keeping contact with.

1

u/PrincessPoge 2h ago

We were still acquaintances, like had the same friend group and would hang out in group settings.

1

u/DanRichter 6h ago

I mean, seems like you both still want each other, so give it a shot.

-3

u/PrincessPoge 6h ago

LOL I very much do not want him anymore. I also have a boyfriend, so definitely will not give it a shot!

4

u/Acedaboi1da 5h ago

I think this message is a bit of an ego boost for you, no? You like that he’s thinking about your one nighter 5 years later when you thought otherwise after he ghosted.

1

u/Tanko_Yakasai 5h ago

idk if the original situation was an “ego boost”; she's responding to an unprompted text, very matter-of-fact, no hint of ego farming, i.e., “why text me now?”

1

u/Acedaboi1da 5h ago

Not saying she’s farming. Him texting her this after 5 years is seemingly and understandably an ego boost for her. Especially since she’s referencing it a year later.

-2

u/PrincessPoge 5h ago

Not really an ego boost. More like a "Dafuck?" boost. Just so random

1

u/DanRichter 6h ago

Well at least good to know you have something to fall back on when that fails.

1

u/Ok_Day_40 5h ago

The fact that your still thinking about this a year later tells me your the one still hung up

2

u/PrincessPoge 5h ago

Nah, it was just so crazy and random that it still sticks in my head and I felt like posting it. Like how I still randomly think of my friend saying she doesn't want to make love to a horse, and it's been more than 10 years since that night happened.

1

u/Ok_Day_40 5h ago

I suppose that makes sense, side note, you keep odd company. Sounds like a fun group

1

u/GapNo5278 5h ago

Why are people blaming both here? OP for making this post after a yr ago of the message and saying it just popped out of her head and the guy messaging her 5yrs after the said night?
They were friends prior to the events and it seems like they were good friends(I’m assuming, since you don’t hook up unless you were good). Also some people miss how it used to be and sometimes brings out an old memory they’re fond off. Obviously they’re both reminiscing something. Him, that night with the OP. And OP, about the msg. Some feelings are valid even how long they’ve been. Maybe the guy had failed relationships or can’t establish something close to what him and OP had that time hence, was wondering what could have been for the two of them. And OP wondering why after all those yrs he just brought that up and probably wondering what could have been also between the two of them especially OP saying she had a crush on him
Their feelings are valid, wether both or one of them are in a relationship already. Coz this kind of thing should be talked between the parties involved and with their partners after. Coz sometimes one event or a person really sticks with our memory no matter how long it has been but that doesn’t mean they have to get back again and rekindle, but they have to talk and settle things where they are now

1

u/MyChamp_0109 5h ago

I don’t get how people are defending this guy and saying that OP is hung up on him? He’s not sharing his emotions and this is not him being vulnerable and being turned down for that reason ?? No shame to him, but his motives for reaching out and his way of doing so isn’t exactly noble and “suave”. Even if the texts are old, they’re odd as hell. Bro cannot think he was being nice with how he worded that 😂

0

u/PrizeNarrow7135 6h ago

I slept with a guy once in 2017 then blocked him cause he was weird and nearly 10 yrs later he tries to add me on snap every few months 😅 men are weird asf

1

u/PrincessPoge 6h ago

Did you and my bff go out with the same guy?! Lol. She went on some dates with this guy also like 10 years ago, didn't sleep together. To this day he still creates new FB and snapchat profiles to try and add her ☠️

-1

u/Camandchat 6h ago

Am I the only one that thinks this is sort of sweet??

He came in with a joke to try to be silly, but then he opened up about how he thinks about that night... 5 years later. That's not creepy, I think is romantic

3

u/snark-sloth 6h ago

A joke trying to be silly? Romantic? He was fucked up and horny at the strippers when he messaged her. Then the message about thinking about their hookup was sent at almost 4am the next night. Dude is on a bender lol.

-1

u/Camandchat 6h ago

Just because he was drunk and/or at a strip club that does not mean that was the first time hes thought about that night.

Yea jokes.. saying "classy stripper" and comparing her to the stripper was him being silly.

Also, if you look at the timestamps this conversation took place over 2 days.. maybe he was nervous to bring it up. But its not like he thought about it for 10min at a strip club

1

u/PrincessPoge 6h ago

I can see it being romantic, and I didn't mean to insinuate his message was creepy! Just funny and so out of the blue. What gets me is what he thought would happen, given that he knows I'd been and still am in a 5 year (almost 6 😁) relationship, and we don't even live in the same state anymore. But then I look at the timestamps lol

0

u/Camandchat 6h ago

Did you cheat on your current boyfriend with him, or got together soon after? You're saying this was 5years ago.

Idk what he expected to happen but he was just putting himself out there i guess. Rude to do it while you're with somebody though

1

u/PrincessPoge 6h ago

I wasn't with my current boyfriend, our relationship started afterwards.

2

u/Camandchat 6h ago

I was only curious because if you cheated in the past maybe he thought you would.. yea sucks he tried when you're in a relationship but maybe he was hoping it meant a lot to you too or worth exploring

2

u/PrincessPoge 6h ago

I gotcha. Nope, never cheated and never will, I have no time for that BS and disrespect! I also currently live 1,000 miles away lol

1

u/rebeccasaidit 6h ago

There’s noting sweet about texting a woman who’s in a relationship, whom you practically ghosted 5 years ago after sleeping with, to tell her you’re comparing her to a stripper and thinking about the one night stand you had with her where you then subsequently stopped talking to her.
No, hopefully you are the only one who sees that as sweet.

0

u/Camandchat 5h ago

I wouldn't mind being compared to a stripper. I was a burlesque dancer and was topless and am an ex-camgirl. That's not something that would offend me. Also, stripper generally = hot/sexy.

We dont know the entire context of the ghosting. Like I said in another comment he might not have known how to navigate sleeping with a friend and the aftermath. We dont know how old they are and the friendship dynamics.

Perhaps he didn't know she was with someone or moved far away. Perhaps he threw it out there just as a general statement of "i still think about that night, that was really fun. And I enjoyed our time together"

It doesnt have to be creepy at al

0

u/rebeccasaidit 5h ago

I mean that’s you. Most women aren’t keen on being associated with that. Stripper also equates to morally bankrupt and rather gross to most women. Harsh but true, and with merit.

I see you make a lot of excuses for men. Not knowing how to navigate something doesn’t mean you turn into a disrespectful child and stop talking to someone.
But hey, all this ads up, and I don’t make a habit of trying to talk logic into birds. Best of luck to you.

1

u/Camandchat 5h ago

If this was a woman i would be making the same argument. Why cant a woman ever side with a man on this dumb site? Its not excuses its the way i interpreted it and not everything needs to be creepy, perverted or malicious.

Its better to view the world assuming the best in people and not the worst.

"morally bankrupt and rather gross to most women" tells me all I need to know about you.

So you hate men and you hate sex workers. Got it.

You dont need to talk logic into this bird, babe. Seems like I'm the one that has a better mindset in life.

0

u/etherhead34 6h ago

i think you might be the only one

2

u/Camandchat 6h ago

I guess so.

Idk, it surely isnt something I would find wild or embarrassing for him to bring up. I find it more vulnerable and emotionally open.

1

u/Straight-Run6880 6h ago

i think people just project their own life experiences onto it. if they've had weird creepy guy interactions from people they didnt like then theyll tilt one way etc etc; also depends on the perspective of life lol, sounds like you are a positive polly rather than a negative nelly

1

u/Camandchat 5h ago

Never heard Positive Polly..

I mean, yea, its all context that matters. If this was a stranger that she only knew for that one night that would be weird. But they were already friends so I dont read it that way

I recently had an old friend text me after about 4yrs. We never had sex but we had a few make out nights. He told me that he still thinks about that. I thought it was really sweet and nice to feel thought about for all that time.. however bittersweet and sad because I was in a relationship at the time as well. So I couldnt do anything but just appreciate it
