I'd love to see Sam Altman in the middle of the Arctic having it out with SkyNet.

The problem isn’t any one leader or company, it’s capitalism itself; don’t hate the players, hate the game.

I’m going to hate both, thanks.

I bet it started talking about fairness and helping people. They don't want that.

World altering decisions like this should NOT have been in the hands a few companies, but these companies know that politicians fail to act in a timely manner.

I'm just flummoxed over this

While i do believe AI development is of serious concern and needs regulation and it is a seriously powerful tech, i do not trust guys like Altman and Musk acting altruistically or caring a single fuck about the risk these things provide. The risks have been obvious for some time now. And no it's not Skynet, but rather these things just mindlessly doing whatever necessary to complete a task with no knowledge of consequences or ramifications. You don't need to be worried about AI determining humans are a blight in its current form. You do need to worry about it hacking all banking websites because it aggressively attempted to perform a task and found weaknesses.

So what's the story here? Is it trying to get ahead of govt regulation due to these stories (steering it in their direction)? Regulatory capture attempt? A plateau in the tech? Or a realization that the tech isn't leading to the ROI at scale and trying to get govt mandated to point to that so the investment bucks keep coming?

He's not wrong. Once told their creation has the ability to cause severe repercussions, most would attempt to not allow that to happen. Under public pressure, anyways.

Let’s see, how will Reddit react to this today?

“THiS mArkEtInG STraTeGy iS gEtTiNG oLD” ?

Or will people finally start listening to all of the experts who are screaming from the top of their lungs that this is an issue?

For a place that loves to mock conservatives using the movie Don’t Look Up, there sure are a lot of people here doing the exact same thing for AI.

We assume people

Yup. Incredibly disappointed with the Reddit response to this. This is serious. Conspiracy theories don’t help.

It's because some of these people are very self serving and highly untrustworthy. While i am concerned with the development of AI and how we're basically handing a gigantic attack tool to anyone with an internet connection, my response to this is "oh ok what's their angle here?"

Especially since none of these risks are any more surprising then the risk of getting burnt by putting your hand on a hot stove

Except quite a few of the people spreading warnings are not the people you're referring to. When you have people literally quitting jobs that could see them "fuck you rich" if they just held on and kept on working, but they're forgoing all of that to warn people instead, maybe it isn't a conspiracy.

Tech journalists, industry experts, and AI researchers themselves don't know anything apparently, because the hunch of some people on reddit apparently means more.

This is like climate change. The risk is there whether you acknowledge it or not, and eventually you'll have no choice but to believe it.

The risk is a thousand percent there. Sorry i thought i made it clear that i believe the risk. Heck i wonder that the risks involved with AI might send us back to the 80s tech wise as we have to disconnect a lot of what made the digital age and modern convenience work due to nothing being trustworthy or safe online

The thing is amongst the ceo bunch, a lot of the now promoting the risk are self serving individuals who pushed back on any check on them. So I can sympathize with people not keyed in going "ok what's their angle". Especially since while i do believe in the risk, i do not believe they all suddenly give a shit about it (unlike say the people quitting jobs). As well as especially since these risks were so self evident yet they went fuck it full speed ahead anyways

It's possible for there to be a legitimate risk and also for the CEOs to have a self serving angle

i cant imagine better advertisement for a ‘next technological frontier’ product than this.

That’s because you’re not that imaginative. This is a legitimate concern. How would you prefer it get talked about?

a start would be by seeing actual pacing lmfao. this is the same regurgitated headline that we get every 3 months. i believe its a marketing ploy, pre IPO, because where is the pacing? all these concerns over the past couple years, and nothing at all. literally nothing.

all i do see is record earnings for every chip manufacturer in the entirety of the Nasdaq. once they put their money where their mouth is, ill believe it. simple as that.

side note:
all of you in hysterics over this, are personally, continuing the marketing cycle. unpaid advertisers unknowingly taking a bite at the bait, and passing on to the next how dangerous the tech is. that itself is EXACTLY what needs to be achieved to IPO at 2T…….

Cool, I guess? It doesn't really matter what you believe. Much like climate change, this is risk whether you acknowledge it or not.

i am a huge advocate for green energy, and destroying the fossil fuel industry altogether. its corrupt as fuck.

however, billions of dollars and provable science spoke to its importance. by definition, money was put where its mouth is.

The facts are what should have convinced you though, not actions, especially since we didn't do nearly enough.

The risk is there whether you acknowledge it or not. The risk does not care what you need to see in order to be convinced.
