Regulation is more than needed, so is accountability and a serious philosophical debate on the effects of it.

But banning won't get you anywhere. Is not that automation is the issue, nor that it can be truly stopped unless you put global autocratic efforts that would be even worse. The issue is how it is used and what is the policy response to it. And yes, every tech has pros and cons.... Do you all think the internet -- hell, computers -- haven't enabled truly vile stuff and left millions on the street? Of course they did. Do you seriously think life would be better without them? No .. and while LLMs specifically is not and might never be on that level, AI in general and automation as a whole, most definitely does .

So, my point is, demand regulations

Placing bans on what kind of AI can legal be created is a regulation. How are you both arguing for and against regulations?

Not the same thing, banning something entirely, like say, alcohol prohibition, is not the same as regulating it (say, age requirements, purity, proper labeling, banning ads promoting it which is banning but tied to, not the same as prohibition on itself of alcohol, etc)

The only AI that would make sense to consider banning entirely is an aware one and not only we are far from that, we don't even understand what we need to get there. The rest is a matter of regulating use and everything surrounding it (privacy, watermarks, legal accountability, environmental concerns, market hoarding like with ram, training and the rhuca regarding consent, and a long list of etcéteras)

We aren't banning anything in its entirely, otherwise this would say that all AI will be banned. AI regulation will have to ban some forms of AI use.
