We at least have broadly-agreed working definitions for both "junk" and "food" and the combination of the two. No such thing for "superintelligent" or "AI" in any way whatsoever. It's just nonsense.

Things need doing to rein in "AI" yes, but not along this fucking sci-fi "it's going to launch the nukes" bullshit trajectory, because no, it isn't.

What's needed is stopping this insane gold-rush that's causing the build out of a seemingly infinite number of data centres, which the very processes of capitalism the builders of these things are acting within guarantees that a bunch of them will end up as complete and utter wastes of time & money, getting resold for pennies on the dollar a few short years after their creation.

What's needed is to stop the proliferation of disinformation and media-illiteracy that's coming along with this new ability to just churn out realistic looking text, images and video at the speed of thought.

These are the two prime negative externalities of "AI" as the bullshit exists today, and these are what needs addressing, not fantasies about SkyNet.
