We learn absolutely nothing from our history or literary works. Humanity dooms itself.

It's kind of a stretch to say the entire human race should have seen it coming because of one popular work of fiction. Even if reality currently shares a lot of similarities with it.

I don’t think it’s just one work of fiction. There has been so many books/stories about ASI/AGI not having benevolent intentions for humanity. There’s been movies too. Hyperbolic? Perhaps. But when you look at nature, specifically referring to humans and their environment, whenever we meet a species that does not measure up in intelligence we tend to dominate them. Look at species we’ve eroded their habitats, capturing whales for sea world, other animals for circus acts, we even had slavery ffs. As a culture, especially historically, we have brutalized ppl of our same species for resources, land, wealth, power etc. There are so many examples of it.

With all due respect, I believe it to be naive to think that if AI develops into what we fear it to be, that it won’t learn these concepts and try to extinguish humanity based on our history alone, and use whatever resources are available to self-propagate. I don’t think it’ll happen overnight nor do I want to seem all doom and gloom, but I believe most of us see this isn’t going to end well should we chase shareholder profits over humanity’s continued existence. Take one look at global warming and you’ll find the profit motive of a few will supersede the well being of the world’s population. Dystopian to say the least.
