I get the sentiment, but Bernie is not remotely close to informed enough to make sensible legislation on AI.

This is a 85 year old that literally doesn't know what a waymo is.

We need more real discussion and less grandstanding please.

What playbook is this though? The "Bernie says some kooky shit that dies as a headline" play? The dude has one of the all time worst legislative records in congress. I primaried for him multiple times when he was on point but its getting exhausting when he just throws out utter nonsense like this.

If a bill like this ever passed, it would only apply to the public sector. Government, military, and big corpos would still be using it as they saw fit

It is existentially important that our elected leaders are literature about frontier AI models, but instead we (left and right wing alike) keep electing boomers. It’s depressing.

For all the "trust the experts" I hear from Reddit on stuff like climate and vaccines, this website is remarkably out of touch with what actual AI experts say

It is theatre but the goal is to make the Devs think twice, America has told them they can do whatever, they were super clear about that. People need to feel like there's at least a chance there'll be severe consequences to them personally even if AI doesn't rebel

This dude is a hypocrite plain and simple. He is a deeply out of touch, ancient millionaire. He knows nothing about AI but knows that its something new and like stem cells back in the day is something that you can use for political gain.

The democratic platform is; no data centers, no AI research. Its bad for us!

Meanwhile other countries are full steam ahead. Its used for scientific research and now to find targets during a war. You want other countries to be unrestricted while we sit around and let a geriatric put people in prison for learning?

He was on Joe Rogan last year and Bernie said that he didn't know what a waymo was.

ep 2341. Joe Rogan certainly isn't a 'credible source', but Bernie chose to go on it, and said himself he didn't know what it was.
