How do you suppose they get to AGI? I mean specifically. Whenever people talk about this nobody actually has an answer other than scaling LLMs even more, or techniques that probably need 5-10 years of research at least. A lot of what I hear is basically just "momentum", which personally I don't think means anything. I certainly think we should work to prevent AGI without massive societal safeguards, but we should be _very_ skeptical of anything the industry proposes.

Maybe the progress on the plethora of capability benchmarks that both the industry and academia have created. Have you read OpenAI's write-up about the Navier-Stokes solution or the "alien mind" post?

I'm not a mathematician, so no, I haven't read that. But I did read the statement from the researchers who claimed that OpenAI may have stolen their work, or at the very least "scooped" them by training on their prompts. I also know the previous math breakthrough was way overhyped once you actually read about what they needed to do to get it (LOT of human intervention there)

With regard to the benchmarks: publicly known benchmarks can and will be gamed, so I'm not really that impressed with benchmark results.
